On Monday Showtime kicked off the new season of a re-invented Weeds, and after a disappointing third season it seemed quite a lot of people were welcoming the change.
Season 4 premiere of Weeds broke the Showtime record - previously held by the season two premiere of Dexter (1.2 million) - with 1.3 million viewers watching Showtime at 10.00 on Monday. Thus, season premieres for the show keep improving over time : the series premiere pulled in 488 000 viewers, the second season premiere grabbed the attention of 578 000 viewers and last season debut started out with 824 000 viewers.
After Weeds came another premiere, the series premiere of Secret Diary Of A Call Girl, holding on to 949 000 viewers (73% retention). A very good start for the British import, beating the series debut of The L Word in 2004 (936 000 viewers). Last season the post-Weeds slot was given to Californication, starring David Duchovny, which “only” had 550 000 viewers (67% retention).

Shows: Secret Diary Of A Call Girl, Weeds

(S04E01) Last night was the season four premiere of Weeds ! Yes, the great little show about drugs (sort of) is back as our favorite summer fix, and it’s about time ! And as everyone was aware of, I would assume, we’re in for lots of changes. Because the last time we saw Nancy, she was ensuring that her house would burned down during the fire that was taking over Agrestic/Majestic, spilling gas all over the place and moving on.
I have not hidden the fact that I was quite worried about this new season, which would see the loss of many, starting with Heylia and Conrad, or the oh-so perfect song from the opening credits, Little Boxes. Well, the actual opening credits is going away as well as a matter of fact, since the Botwins are moving away and not looking back.
So I had my worries, and then came this episode.

In Series: Weeds Season 4

Another week ahead of us, and along with the couple of shows already on, we have some new additions to make to our summer schedule, courtesy of Showtime, all happening on Monday.
* First off, at 10.00 is the return of a brand new and “re-invented” Weeds. As we all know, last time Nancy made sure her house was gone, so now she’s moving away to a brand new town, no more “little boxes” (including the actual song), leaving a few people behind. Last season wasn’t a good one, let’s face it, and those changes are quite worrying to me I’ll be honest. But we’ll see, maybe it’ll turn out for the best…
* And right after, at 10.30, premieres a new series, Secret Diary Of A Call Girl. The show is about Hanna, who to her parents is a legal secretary. She has a responsible job that involves working lots of unsocial hours in the evening. But in fact, Hanna has a double life, she really is a prostitute who, to her clients, is known as Belle, and can be whatever they want her to be. She can be the quiet girl-next-door, the high-heeled dominatrix who whips them into submission… Her mission is to make money by satisfying male fantasies.

As unbelievable as this may sound, it is indeed true. Found on the official ballot released by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to its voters, one of the 41 names for guest appearances is the name of Britney Spears, for her double guest-spot mess on How I Met Your Mother.
Obviously she was terrible and won’t even be considered (right?), but the simple fact that she could be nominated gives me the chill, as well as reminds me of this sick mess that dragged her not once, but twice on CBS hit comedy; And the worst part is that still to this day creators of the show haven’t made it clear she would never ever come back.
Of course, another name on the list for Emmy consideration is the one of the lovely and talented Sarah Chalke, for her performance in the same sitcom, and while I don’t have a clue of who the nominees will actually be, I’m already feeling like rooting for Chalke. She was perfect for the role, her character showed great chemistry with Ted, and quite honestly when reading some of the other names mentioned - such as Sarah Silverman for her spot on Monk (yeah, but no), Mary-Kate Olsen as a religious pot-dealer on Weeds (this was just a big unfunny joke? wasn’t it?), or Alyssa Milano on My Name Is Earl (mostly miss/under-used, while stuck in some comatose plot) - I think we may have a winner, don’t you think ?

Now that the season is (almost) over, we can start focusing on what to watch this summer. Summer is a time we usually move away from the big four, as they are pretty much filled with nothing but reruns, games, and more reruns. As such, we look more into the ones who keep being creative and providing us with great, exciting content, the cable networks.
Of course, there isn’t always something good, and with the still on-going effects of the recent writers’ strike, well, a few series you might be waiting for won’t be coming back (so soon).
During summer I usually watch The 4400, but USA canceled it so we won’t get any actual closure on that story. And as I said, some series will be returning later than usual, for instance there won’t be no Entourage until September, and I think we might have to wait until 2009 for the new season of FX great hit, Damages. Same goes for Rescue Me, although FX will produce minisodes of Rescue Me this summer.

When a little show about a suburban widow, portrayed by Mary Louise Parker, who had to sell marijuana to her neighbors in order to make ends meet premiered on Showtime, I was curious and I tuned in. It was a great idea, because the show turned out to be really good, and pretty funny as well. It was a very nice a refreshing show that I loved to tune in to every week.
Sadly, during last season of Weeds things have changed, a lot. Everything changed, because the show wasn’t about Nancy selling weeds to a few parents of her kids’ friends so she could pay for food anymore, now we had her being a drug dealer, a driver during drive-by shootings, and sitting on a pile of heroin. Clearly, the show wasn’t the same. It was also not so funny anymore, and complete crap on more than one occasion — I’m sure those of who who remember that whole plot with Andy joining the army and other shit like that know exactly what I mean.
But it will only get worse. For proof : no more “Little Boxes” !

As always, critics are all voted for the to find out which were the best series and which were the worst of 2007. The Winter Critics Poll 2007 is over, and results are in.
Votes were tabulated using a weighted scale. Critics submitted 10 shows in the best series category, the top choice receiving 10 points, the second choice 9 points and so on down to the last (10th) choice, receiving 1 point.
In the worst series category, they only submitted five shows, the top (worst) choice descending from 5 points, the next from 4 points, and so on till the last one, descending from one point.
Selected shows were televised between July and December 2007.

So last night it finally happened, NBC had the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards Announcement Press Conference, or whatever they’re called it. I hear it was an absolute nightmare, a real horror, disgusting, unbearable, people stabbing themselves in the eyes to wash out what they had seen on NBC, and that was only due to Billy Bush’s hair !
Anyways, I’m sure NBC took care to explain that the mean WGA was all responsible for the mess that would follow, because they’re greedy evil bastards. Hopefully, people will be more inclined to trust, say, Tom Hanks, blaming the AMPTP. (Yes, he talked about the upcoming Oscars, but we all know that’s very much the same deal.)
I did not bother to watch whatever crap NBC had in store, if you have, you’re very brave, and I am sorry you had to go through this. Anyways, are are the winners of this year’s Golden Globes :

One new set of nominees was announced, this time it was the SAG Awards. Winners will be announced on January 27, 2008.
The nominees aren’t really always the right ones, in my opinion, and for instance I find it hard to understand that the only newcomers you can find are Mad Men, Samantha Who? and Damages. I mean, seriously. How can there be nothing for the best new series of the season, the fantastic Life, or the oh-so-sweet Pushing Daisies ? Just doesn’t make sense to me…
List of nominees after the jump, with in bold my votes, and maybe a few comments as well, as usual… Although I pretty much expressed my choices over the Golden Globes nominations.

The 12th Annual Satellite Awards, given out by the International Press Academy, took place this Sunday, and they got some right, and some wrong. Although, many times the nominees weren’t right, so there couldn’t have been a good choice anyway, it was too late.
Among the series fans can be happy to hear were rewarded, can be found Dexter, Pushing Daisies, Ugly Betty or Grey’s Anatomy.
Quickly, here’s what matters :
