PsychOne big week coming up - well, considering how slow things have been lately that is - with the premiere of HBO’s miniseries Generation Kill tonight at 9.00, the return of TNT’s The Closer & Saving Grace on Monday, a new series, The Cleaner, on A&E on Tuesday, and of course the season premiere of summer hit-comedy Psych on USA !! (And also, before it, Monk)

Generation Kill is a seven-parts miniseries based on Evan Wright’s book of the same name about his experiences as an embedded reporter with the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion during the Iraq war’s first phase in 2003. Wright worked on a consultant on the show.

The Cleaner is a new series inspired by the true story of a real-life “extreme interventionist”. The show stars Benjamin Bratt (Law & Order) as William “The Cleaner” Banks, who, after hitting rock-bottom from his own addictions after the birth of his daughter, has now gathered an unconventional team with whom he helps people get away from their addictions by any means necessary.

There should be enough to please everyone, as for myself I can’t wait for Friday and a new episode of Psych ! Of course in the mean time, we got plenty to chew :

Weeds: The Three Coolers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 8, 2008

Weeds(S04E04) Alright, so after last week’s episode of Weeds, the overall impression for this new season wasn’t all that good. It was a completely different location for Nancy and her family, but other than that we all failed to see anything new. Not only that, but the show was nowhere near as good as it once used to be. As a matter of fact, let’s be honest : up until now episodes had been quite boring (at times).

This was probably due to already many misdirections, such as dealing with a dying grandma and how to get ride of her, her son, and that whole plotline. Which also resulted in the show being quite heavy on the drama. Sure, Weeds has probably always been in the dramedy category, a mix of both drama and comedy, but originally - and when it was it his best - the show was/is a comedy.

Its heart and soul is in the funny department, and we all missed that, a lot, didn’t we?

Burn NoticeTime to head into one week, and since we’re now in July we can already see some new additions as well ! Nothing that really gets me excited so far, but I’m sure many of you will be excited over the return of what was described as “a summer show, there’s nothing else on, it’s got action and there are some pretty hot women on the show by star Jeffrey Donovan himself.

That’s right, while there won’t be no new episode of Fear Itself this Thursday on NBC, it’s not a problem because all you have to do is switch to USA to see the season premiere of Burn Notice !

More Emmy Talk: Guest and Supporting Comedy Actress; Comedy and Supporting Comedy Actor

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 3, 2008

Jenna FischerAlways more lists of candidates for a nominations for an Emmy are being released, one way or another, and so here’s the latest. Starting with guest actress in comedy series, and - Thank God! - no sign of Spears or the likes. Surprisingly though, the delightful Sarah Chalke isn’t on the list, which I believe is a real shame. It’s not new, How I Met Your Mother always gets snubbed, sadly.

Funny thing though : Sarah Silverman is already on the list for Best Comedy Actress, and she’s also here for her guest appearance on Monk. I didn’t find her performance here to be that good, but then again I find Monk to be really not a very good show…

This season 30 Rock proved to be quite good when it comes to guest stars, and it shows : on the list of 11 possible nominees, we find no less than 3 names from the sitcom, same as Desperate Housewives, except that - at least according to me - the ones from 30 Rock should be amongst the five official nominees.

More Emmy Semi-Finalist

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 1, 2008

Some Emmy Finalists have already been made public, and now a few more are out. The list of semi-finalists for Best Comedy Actress and Best Supporting Drama Actor. Once again those lists aren’t for official nominees, people need to vote so we can get the official five nominees; still let’s talk about it!

Many are commenting on how Teri Hatcher is missing from the list, while Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria Parker are all on the list. I’ll just say that, sure, it looks like a snub especially on the semi-finalists list, but where does it say all Desperate Housewives actresses have to be all nominated ? I don’t hear people complain that much when only a couple of actors or actresses from Lost are nominated, and not the others.

Weeds: The Whole Blah Damn Thing

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 1, 2008

Weeds(S04E03) A new episode of Weeds went by, another one of those new ones which come with no more credits, no more singing, and I have to admit I do miss my “Little Boxes. I know it may sound a little silly, and it is true that more shows every season go that way and do not use opening credits anymore, or very brief ones, and I don’t have any problem with that.

But here’s the thing : Weeds used to have one, and when a show has a theme song associated with it, removing it is like removing a huge part of the show’s soul. Call me crazy, but while the first scene before is usually great and hilarious, I just feel happy and all excited as soon as I hear the first notes of the them song for The Office, whenever I watch an episode. Right away it sets me right in the mood, and I just feel better, and I sometimes start singing along… but I shouldn’t mentioned that last part.

Top 10 Emmy Finalists

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 27, 2008

Emmy AwardThe Emmys have released the lists of top 10 finalists for best comedy and best drama series. It’s not the nominations, just a “pre-selection”, but there’s already some (big) surprises, like the inclusion of Family Guy in the best comedy series — never an animated series made it there, but this year creator-producer Seth MacFarlane opted to have his show run for the best comedy series, while submitting a special episode (Blue Harvest) to the animated category — as well as some misses.

I mean I really wanted to see Life on the Best Drama list, and I can’t believe that once again How I Met Your Mother isn’t on the Best Comedy list ! You won’t also find Desperate Housewives (but that makes sense to me), My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, or Heroes but it is to include the one that’d have been surprising this year.

Weeds: Lady’s A Charm

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 24, 2008

Weeds(S04E02) Changes are still happening on Weeds, at least on the outside. Last week the show was back for its fourth season, and with it we saw the Botwins move to a new place, though not really a new life. But as a last reminder of their past, and what the show used to be like for three years, we had one last time an opening credit sequence, with the traditional “Little Boxes“.

Not this time.

No, from this point on we’ve moved on to a new season, Nancy and co have moved on to a new place, and there are no more little boxes. Instead, what we will get now, if I’m not mistaken, are each time one “card” that will illustrate what the episode will be like, or give an idea of what it’ll be about, a first sign of things to come.
