ABC’s Traveler did not get canceled this season. This is news, because pretty much all good new shows have been canceled after only a few episodes.
But when asked why the show, which had been ordered a first season of thirteen episodes, got shortened to only eight episodes - after no more than six actually made it to the air, here’s what ABC President Stephen McPherson had to say :
“We were disappointed in the way that that show was creatively developed, and [it] ended up being just not… not to the level that we thought it could succeed. And so it didn’t get the kind of support that, you know, we gave some other shows that we believed in a lot more.”
Did you laugh at this? I know I did. So they were disappointed in the creative ways of the show, because sure those people base their decision to cancel shows on creative and artistic points, not money goals and meaningless Nielsens ratings!

Shows: Lost, The Nine, Traveler

All viewers and fans of the great show that was Traveler now that, sadly, it is now over. They also know that the season/series finale was quite disappointing. And I was said before what pissed me off the most was that we weren’t given any answers really, only more questions!
Knowing that it was the “big finale”, why would they write it like that? Why slamming the door on the face of loyal fans that way?
Well, Creator/Executive Producer David Digilio gave same answers regarding this matter…

(S01E08) Well… it sucks. “It” referring to a couple of different things. Of course, the first thing “it” means is the end if the show. Sure it might not have been officially canceled, but really it’s as if.
I mean, while again (way) too many shows got canceled before they had a real chance to grow an audience, Traveler did air all the way. Only they’ve been cut off by 5 episodes, as originally ABC had ordered not 8 but 13 episodes ! No really, it is over.
But “it” also means, the way it did end. That last episode, well, sucked.

Shows: Traveler

(S01E07) Traveler is one of those new shows we got to see this season, but that sadly, due to some stupid network “decisions”, we will never get to see & enjoy as we should have.
But at least, unlike so many others who simply got taken off the air like say, DayBreak, to stay on the same network, at least with Traveler we get to see all episodes.
Sure, writers had to rework on the two last episodes when they learned there wouldn’t be, as originally planned, 5 more to follow. But at least they could write a closure to the show, and we’ll get to see it.
And so here we go, with the seventh episode, first of the two last that got rewritten in order to close the story sooner. As such, we could have expected some kind of acceleration in the rhythm of the show and how things move on.

Shows: Traveler

Another show bites the dust. Kind of. It is more than likely that ABC’s new show Traveler will not be returning for a second season, as hinted by Creator/Executive Producer David Digilio, calling the two remaining episodes of the season the final two of the show, and revealing ABC let contracts of the actors lapse.
I honestly only heard of this show as a one-season deal, but I guess some always have hopes to stretch out something for more than it was originally intended, or should be.
Don’t matter this, such news won’t come as a shock to, I think, anyone would followed the life of that show. Despite having one of the most exciting pilot of all the new shows this season, which I saw (long) before the show started airing and got me excited all this time, it wasn’t apparently how execs felt over at ABC.
Makes sense, those people have but no idea whatsoever what a good TV show is, or even looks like.
Anyways, despite this exciting pilot, and, as we’ve learned after, great episodes to follow it, in the middle of its production ABC decided to change their mind, and cut it off by 5 episodes, from the 13 originally ordered they went down to only 8.
By then the five first ones were already done, and the sixth was being shot. Writers were polishing the script of the original episode 8 when the news came down. Therefore much work had to go into rewriting what would be the last two episodes in a way that would concluded a story thought as much longer.
But at least writers were told before hand, and could wrap things up and conclude the story, so fans wouldn’t be left hanging without any answers like in so many shows lately. And I guess we have to thank ABC for not insulting us, since they did not took it off the air before the end.
Well, there are still two episodes to come, so keep your fingers crossed.
