Saturn Awards Nominations

Saturn AwardSaturn Awards Nominations have been announced, and it looks like there’s a general feeling that they got things right, as Lost is leading nominations receiving no less than 8 nominations. Much deserved, given how this season is nothing less but amazing!

Let’s also mention a couple of nominations for NBC’s canceled-too-soon Journeyman, starting with one for Best Network TV Series, and no less than 3 nominations for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Doesn’t mean they got it all right though, because to give 5 nominations to Heroes sounds really wrong, to give it a nomination for Best Network TV Series is complete bullshit!

Tin Man Doing Wonders

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 6, 2007

Tin ManI reported already that the premiere of Tin Man, SciFi’s latest version of The Wizard Of Oz, had done very well - and the second and third part of the miniseries followed the same way.

Overall, Tin Man averaged a 5.3 million total viewers, better than Steven Spielberg’s Taken (5.0 million) or Dune (4.6 million), and made SciFi the number one in prime time (8.00-11.00) among all entertainment cable networks for all three nights of its broadcast.

Part 1 was SciFi’s most watched program in viewers (6.4 million) as well as in both its key demo (25-54 and 19-49), in which it even outperformed CBS and Fox ! It was the top entertainment telecast in cable on the 25-54 demo since Disney’s High School Musical 2 in August 2007.

Part 2 drew a record-breaking audience and even surpassed the special two-hour episode of The Closer in both 25-54 and 18-49 demos.

Part 3 delivered over 5 million total viewers and was the first cable program of the day on the same 25-54 and 18-49 demos.

Needless to say, this miniseries was to be a great success for SciFi. If you missed it, SciFi will rerun all three parts back to back on Sunday, December 9th at 5.00.

Tin Man doing wonders

Seems that SciFi can be really happy with Tin Man, their new version of The Wizard Of Oz whose second part aired last night at 9.00, and third and final part will air at the same time tonight.

Sunday, while Desperate Housewives was grabbing over 20 million viewers in a season’s high, the first part of Tin Man found a way to bring 6.4 million viewers of its own on SciFi !

Thus beating the record previously owned by Steven Spielberg’s miniseries Taken (6.1 million viewers for the series premiere, in 2002). Not stopping there, Tin Man also did better than Taken on the 25/54 and was watched by 3.4 million adults 18-49, beating 2000’s miniseries Dune.

Needless to say, this miniseries seems to be a great success for SciFi.

Tonight On TV: Heroes season finale, First part of Life, Second part of Tin Man…

Tonight On TV

 * At 8.00 there is still a new Chuck on NBC. I hate it, I’ll watch it, don’t ask.

* At 9.00 it’s a very big moment, I guess, but I am absolutely NOT excited about it : Heroes has its season finale. Yes, this is only episode 11 but given how the strike is still going on and there hasn’t been any real good sign that would indicate it would end very soon, I think NBC will air the alternate ending made to work as a season finale…

* Still at 9.00 on SciFi there’s the second episode of miniseries Tin Man, the new version of the Wizard Of Oz. I wasn’t a fan of any previous version, and I wasn’t particularly excited about this one either. That said I did watched the first episode, and I kinda liked it. I’ll be completely honest though, I didn’t watch it watch it, I was doing something else while watching it, so had I really watched it I probably would have felt differently…

But for what I saw, it looked okay. It wasn’t great and not always the best when it comes down to acting or writing (poor dialog anyone?) or special effects, and it seemed to lack something to really captivate the viewer and grabbed him into the whole story, but I still like a few things, starting with seeing Zooey Deschanel again in that kind of role she’s great in (somewhat “odd” character, one way or another), and I laughed at least once : “You guys are out of your tiny minds!

Thinking about it, about the first half of it was the best part. Once all characters met and the journey really began, things started to get less good…. But I’ll keep “watching”, still.

* But don’t forget the highlight of the night, in place of Journeyman (which will come back, don’t worry) NBC has a brand new episode of the best new series of the season, recently picked-up Life ! It’s the first half of a two-parters, the second part airing this very week on the show’s regular timeslot (Wednesdays at 10.00) And it’s some must-see TV!

Tonight On TV: Desperate Tin Man

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 2, 2007

Tonight On TV

 * Once again there’s a lot of the usual stuff missing. Not that Sundays are usually that loaded anyways…

* And at 9.00 - because there’s nothing before - ABC sticks to its goods with a new Desperate Housewives, followed by a new Brothers & Sisters

* And in order to have something else to say, I’d like to mention the new and revisited version of The Wizard Of OZ, brought to you by SciFi. It’s called Tin Man and the first episode (out of three - yes, miniseries) airs tonight at 9.00 Episodes 2 and 3 will air tomorrow and Wednesday, same time same channel.

Now it seems many people are pretty excited about this one, I’m not sure I’m one of them. What the hell is wrong with me ? Anyways, I think I’ll probably try to watch it though and see what it looks like. It might be pretty fun, plus I think I may have a little crush on Zooey Deschanel, starring as DG here, so I’ll have to take a look. In most of what I’ve seen her in, she’s always portrayed from a weird or odd to, at least, a somewhat unusual character.

She’s usually kind of crazy, and I do like that. She was great (and so refreshing) on Weeds and I hope things will be just as fun on Tin Man. Some people also seem to describe it as a mix of shows such as Battlestar Galactica, Heroes and Pushing Daisies. And they do mean Heroes in its first season, so that could be pretty awesome !

Plunged headlong into another world, DG must discover her true identity, battle evil winged-monkey-bats, and attempt to fulfill her destiny. Her perilous journey begins on the fabled Old Road that leads to a wizard known as the Mystic Man. Along the way, she is joined by a decidedly strange trio of companions. “Glitch,” an odd man missing half his brain, “Raw,” a quietly powerful wolverine-like creature longing for inner courage, and “Cain,” a heroic former policeman (known in the O.Z. as Tin Men, for their tin badges) seeking vengeance for his scarred heart. Ultimately, DG’s destiny leads her to an emotional and terrifying showdown with the scintillatingly wicked sorceress Azkadellia, whose ties to DG are closer than anyone could have imagined. DG’s life, as well as the very future of the O.Z., hangs in the balance.
