TV Guide tries to list the Top 10 Pilots, and got it wrong

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | September 8, 2008

Lost PilotIn their latest issue, which can be picked up on newsstands now, TV Guide does something everybody loves to do : a top 10 list. This time they went ahead to list not the top10 best series, but the best pilots.

As with any such list, not everyone has the same taste and not everyone agrees on which pilots were the best ones. Plus, as always, we tend to favor recent ones because, well, they’re more recent. But even then, there are some serious misses on TV Guide selection, so I thought I would list a few names I feel should have been included on such a list, as well as inviting you to list which were, to you, the top 10 best pilots TV had to offer.

Must Read: Showrunners talking about the strike, DVR increase, reality TV, and of course the Emmys

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 4, 2008

Damon Lindelof, Bryan Fuller, David Shore, Craig Thomas and Matthew WeinerNow that the season is over, everyone will be tempted to have a look back at everything that happened and how things worked out. And it was a pretty special season, especially with that big writers’ strike right in the middle changing a lot of things.

As the Emmy are coming up, The Hollywood Reporter’s James Hibberd brought together five of television’s most stalwart showrunners and had them to talk about a bit of everything, from their strike to FCC fines to the rise of reality TV and more. And just as their shows are must-see TV, this is a must-read piece. I can’t recommend you enough to read this, especially if you happen to love some or all of their shows.

And, to make it easier you can start by watching a little video of their chat to get in the mood. Around the table were found Bryan Fuller (ABC’s Pushing Daisies), David Shore (Fox’s House), Damon Lindelof (ABC’s Lost), Matthew Weiner (AMC’s Mad Men) and Craig Thomas (CBS’ How I Met Your Mother).

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 28, 2008

SAG AwardsSo last night were hold The 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, and it was the real deal, with all and everyone showing up at their most beautiful, there was no picket lines or anything like that, it was a real party to take a break and enjoy. Did you watch ?

Honestly, I did not. I’m not sure why, it was probably great, but I didn’t really bother, nor do I really miss it. Shame on me, I guess. Anyways, some lovely people were there, some won, others didn’t, and for what I can read not so many of them did mention the whole strike thing. So let’s send our love and thanks to the always amazing Tina Fey, Jenna Fischer as well as Julie Christie who did mention it.

The 65th Annual Golden Globes - Results

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 14, 2008

Golden GlobesSo last night it finally happened, NBC had the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards Announcement Press Conference, or whatever they’re called it. I hear it was an absolute nightmare, a real horror, disgusting, unbearable, people stabbing themselves in the eyes to wash out what they had seen on NBC, and that was only due to Billy Bush’s hair !

Anyways, I’m sure NBC took care to explain that the mean WGA was all responsible for the mess that would follow, because they’re greedy evil bastards. Hopefully, people will be more inclined to trust, say, Tom Hanks, blaming the AMPTP. (Yes, he talked about the upcoming Oscars, but we all know that’s very much the same deal.)

I did not bother to watch whatever crap NBC had in store, if you have, you’re very brave, and I am sorry you had to go through this. Anyways, are are the winners of this year’s Golden Globes :

Screen Actors Guild Awards : Nominations

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 20, 2007

One new set of nominees was announced, this time it was the SAG Awards. Winners will be announced on January 27, 2008.

The nominees aren’t really always the right ones, in my opinion, and for instance I find it hard to understand that the only newcomers you can find are Mad Men, Samantha Who? and Damages. I mean, seriously. How can there be nothing for the best new series of the season, the fantastic Life, or the oh-so-sweet Pushing Daisies ? Just doesn’t make sense to me…

List of nominees after the jump, with in bold my votes, and maybe a few comments as well, as usual… Although I pretty much expressed my choices over the Golden Globes nominations.

Golden Globes Nominations

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 13, 2007

Golden GlobesOkay, so I just finished writing my review of Pushing Daisies, I still have yet to watch Criminal Minds, but I have to try to read what else is going on in the world of TV, right ? Which ain’t easy either because for some weird reasons, I can’t have any pages of any websites to load in less thanĀ 15 seconds for the fastest ones like Google, which is a real PITA.

Anyways, the nominations for the 65th Golden Globe Awards have been announced, but right before we go into that : will the ceremony even air ? I mean sure, NBC is supposed to air it on January 13, 2008. But shall I remind you that there’s a strike going on ? Of course not. But this little fact might have big consequences regarding the awardsn because many people would not actually show up to get their awards, not just writers but producers and showrunners (but often are writers as well) as well as actors, given how they all supports the writers and have been seen outside on the picket line too.
