The Good, The Bad And The Ugly… This Season For Fox

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 18, 2008

Fox(This week we look back at how each of the main networks handled things this past season, as well as looking at how things are looking up for the coming one. Agree ? Disagree ? Share your thoughts and grade networks in the comments below…)

The Good

Fox wasn’t stupid enough to air only the first quarter of an unfinished season of 24, but decided not to air it until they could really/fully air it. Probably pushed by the strike, but they have also given their chances to new series like New Amsterdam or Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and of course they renewed the later, because we all want more Glaubot!

Fox Schedule for 2009

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 15, 2008

The new schedule for Fox is now official, and there’s not much to say : canceling everything new but Terminator, their additions are for the most part the two most-awaited (sci-fi) series of the season, JJ Abrams’ Fringe, and Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse - the later being reserved for mid-season.

Being Fox, they don’t really care about the shows or giving an opportunity for viewers to easily remember when they are or create some nice pairs, shows keep moving all over the place between fall and winter schedule, and I’m not sure there’s really any logic there.

Full schedule, recap and reactions after the jump!

The Return Of Jezebel James is over

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | March 25, 2008

We all knew it was coming, and it’s now official : Fox canceled The Return Of Jezebel James and will replace it this Friday by reruns of Bones instead.

It’s really not a surprise to anyone who watched the show, because as much as I wanted to love it, coming from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, the show really just wasn’t funny. The writing wasn’t the best, many jokes were forced and not funny, and it didn’t belong in a sitcom-style show, Parker Posey really was a miscast, not that her “sister” Lauren Ambrose was perfect, and that laughs track…

Anyways, the show is now gone. New question : how many episodes before Canterbury’s Law, which has recently been moved to Fridays, will be officially pulled off ?

DVR Cleaning: The Return Of Jezebel James, Miss Guided

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | March 23, 2008

The Return Of Jezebel JamesI still haven’t had a chance to watch In Treatment, but since there are no new episodes this Monday and Tuesday, I’ll just watch Sophie’s last session then. So at least I’ll have this over you guys, I get to watch to sessions of Sophie this week !

Meanwhile this week-end I did watch a couple of “comedies”, sadly I wasn’t laughing much. Miss Guided I didn’t expect anything, after that awful pilot I was sure this show was never going to be great, and guesting little Britney Spears (whatever her name may be) isn’t a sign of anything good. Jesus I can’t believe that actual Britney found her way into the great sitcom that is How I Met Your Mother, CBS better announce its renewal very soon !

Anyways, let’s start with Jezebel James…

Friday’s Numbers

Friday the night won owned by CBS, thanks to some Basketball. The number aren’t that impressive, but I guess it might be because many people get together or to go bars, and Nielsens doesn’t count that. As such they only report 8.3 million viewers, but that’s still way better than the closest competition (NBC with 5.9 million) and the it still rules on the demo.

Last week no one got a 2.0 and this time it was the same, except CBS with a 3.1

Tonight On TV

* Not much on tonight. Soon, we’ll have Canterbury’s Law on Fridays as well, not sure that will make things any better though…

* For tonight, it starts at 8.30 with a new episode of The Return Of Jezebel James. Hopefully it’ll get better, but I doubt they’ll get ride of things like the laugh tracks, sadly…

* At 9.30 on HBO comes a new In Treatment, to conclude this last full week. Next week starts on Wednesday, no episodes on Monday and Tuesday, and will be the last week of the season.

Friday’s Numbers

Not much on Friday night, except for the premiere of The Return of Jezebel James on Fox. And it was awful! Thank God for Fox they had a rerun of House at 9.00, cause that’s the only thing that kept them from doing better than The CW over night !

At 8.00 The Return of Jezebel James was dead last on its slot, with only 3.3 million viewers (where a rerun of Bones had 6.7 million of them last week) and a very low 1.0 on the demo. Not only did The CW’s Friday Night Smackdown! performed better, but so did the rerun of Grey’s Anatomy on ABC ! And said rerun didn’t perform well, not even reaching 4 million viewers.

The Return of Jezebel James: Pilot + Frankenstein Baby

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | March 16, 2008

The Return Of Jezebel James(S01E01+E02) So Friday on Fox premiered the latest show from Amy Sherman-Palladino, creator of Gilmore Girls. As any fan of Gilmore Girls I assume, when I first heard of the return of ASP to TV I was excited, and so I wanted to check this new show out. But I have to say, the premise sounded a little odd to me, for a sitcom : it’s about two sisters who haven’t spoken to each others in 10 years or so, one of them wants a baby but can’t have one, so she asks her sister to move in with her and carry her child.

I don’t know, that just sounds odd for a sitcom, to throw much character evolution and the burden of a baby. What I mean is, it will require the show to evolve and find a new dynamic all the time, and since finding one that works ans keeping it running is already not an easy task, it seems like a real tough job, but why not.

Tonight On TV: Return Of Jezebel James series premiere, In Treatment

Tonight On TV

* Tonight is Friday night, and it’s really a dead night on TV-land these days.

* Which, sadly, proves that Fox doesn’t really believes in its new sitcom : At 8.00 you have the two first episodes of Return Of Jezebel James, the new creation of Amy Sherman-Palladino & Daniel Palladino, names all Gilmore Girls lovers will recognize. Gilmore creator changed style and created this new sitcom, starring Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose. I haven’t heard really good things about it, and the rare promos I’ve seen weren’t too encouraging either, but hey, as they say : “Where you lead, I will follow…

Hopefully this will turn out to be good & funny, even if it can never be as good as Gilmore Girls. 13 episodes were ordered, but only 7 were completed before the strike. Regular timeslot starts next week at 8.30, still on Fridays.

* And of course, at 9.30 on HBO there’s a new In Treatment

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | February 20, 2008

Mysterious ClockSoon after the strike we’ve had list based on rumors and what should happen, but since then a few networks have made official announcements, so it seems a good time to go over it all and make a new list.

Following is a list of when your favorite shows will return, as well as for how many episodes when such info is known, and none of this is based on rumors or what’s likely to be, but what will be, so you can start marking your calendars : (unless networks change their minds, of course…)
