(S02E23) For the last episode of the season they put Sheldon back in the center of the episode, while taking good care to involve all of the other characters into the story (except maybe for Penny, a little on the side on this one). As a result, we got an episode that was simply hilarious, including what might be my favorite and the funniest scene I’ve seen in a long time.
Season finale often involves some kind of cliffhanger and changes of situation, or at least the appearance of it as we all know that in reality, changes aren’t welcome on TV. But we can only witness that, while the main dynamic remains the same, things have changed a lot from what things used to be back when the show premiered. The most obvious changes are certainly in Sheldon and Penny.

(S02E22) While I’ve said many times that Sheldon is the funniest element of the show, and I love to see him & Penny interact together, they’re not the only characters of the show and, when given some good material, everybody else can actually be funny as well. Take Raj for instance, when he’s not that stupid geek who can’t say a word for some reason that has already been established is purely in his head, he can be funny.
He can be very funny even, as was the case this week. In fact, the best thing about this week’s episode, I would say, is probably the way all those secondary characters have been used and worked into the main story. For once this wasn’t about Sheldon or somehow found a way to make him the star, allowing for the likes of Raj or Howard to shine, and they can do so very well.

(S02E21) I’ve always thought that Sheldon was the comedy force of this show, and that he never worked better than with Penny, whether those two are (trying to) be friends or plain fighting. Now that doesn’t mean that all the others cannot be funny, or that they can’t support a story/episode on their own, but I’ll admit that I’m not sure the show could survive without Sheldon (and Penny), while those two could probably do without the others just fine.
Maybe Raj, Howard and Leonard could do fine on their own, but they would need to be given a strong plot, something that works and can deliver some good laughs. This week, I’m not exactly sure this was the case. Things were a bit too predictable, probably also because the entire setup felt like something we just saw last week…

(S02E20) Because of the way it looks, that it comes from Chuck Lorre and/or is about a group of geeks, it could be easy to see The Big Bang Theory as a stupid sitcom, one that’s not really funny, that makes fun of its characters and goes for the cheap joke anytime they can. But overtime they’ve proven to be more than that, to have actual characters who are more than caricatures and stereotypes, and that jokes can be really funny.
But sometimes, it’s as if the writers can’t help themselves, and they go back to the clichéd/cheap joke instead. It happened tonight, and it’s unfortunate. It’s like when they introduce something new, either a new character or a (major ) change in a character’s life, only to drop it and pretend it never happened by the next episode. They often do that, and it just makes the show looks bad, while it’s better than that.

(S02E19) It’s a known fact Sheldon always steals the show, and that he – and Penny – (usually) make for the funniest bits of any given episode. That’s why it’s not uncommon to see episode focus more on them, or Sheldon, because this is where the best laughs are coming from. If there has been episode in the past focusing on other characters, it’s often proven not to be as successful.
This week was one of those episode that didn’t focus on Sheldon or Penny, at least not directly, and yet it managed to be extremely funny all the while giving something nice things to do to about anyone in the cast. Pretty great episode on that end, and very funny, of course. On a side note though, and as was feared, the whole Penny Blossom thing has just been dropped.

(S02E18) One thing we already knew, as it’s been evident for quite a while now, but that this episode made more obvious than ever, is how well Sheldon and Penny work together. Often it’s been said that Sheldon made the show work, and that this was why most episodes tend to focus on him or put him in the middle of everything one way or another.
It’s not wrong, but with Sheldon all alone by himself we do not have a show, we need him to interact with others, so that his world and ours can collide and then we get the magic going. To do that job, there’s no one better than Penny. She’s perfect, and her and Sheldon simply click and always work so well. Turn this show into a Penny & Sheldon show and you still have comedy gold, no questions.
