Thursday’s Numbers [11.20.2008]

NumbersTypical Thursday night last night, CBS being the big winner, CSI the most-watched program and Grey’s Anatomy the best performing on the demo. What else is new?

At 8.00 My Name Is Earl was slightly down (-250 000) but in some deeply depressing news, Kath & Kim was up (+400 000) with 5.47 million viewers and a 2.3 on the demo. I don’t know, I don’t get it, I’d rather just pretend I didn’t know. Meanwhile on The CW it looks very impressive for Smallville (4.77 million viewers, 2.0 on the demo) but that’s all because football was aired in a couple of states, so expect final numbers to actually go down.

Supernatural: Heaven And Hell

Supernatural(S04E10) Let’s open with something I didn’t actually know before watching the episode, not that it would have changed anything, but this was the last installment of Supernatural we will get in a long time. The show is going on a little break for the rest of the year, next episode being scheduled for no sooner than January 15th, 2009. I know, that’s an awful long time, and I’m feeling sick myself as well… withdrawal I think.

It won’t be easy to wait that long before we get to see what happens next, but at least we got this to comfort us : this might have been the best episode of the season so far, which says a lot considering we’re in the best season of the show yet, delivering one fantastic episode after the other. This episode had everything that makes this show so good, and then some.

Thursday’s Numbers [11.13.2008]

NumbersLast night had CBS winning the night both in viewers (14.55 million) and on the demo (4.1) thanks to an ever well-performing CSI, most-watched program of the night, while ABC came in second (11.24 million viewers, 3.9) with many thanks to Grey’s Anatomy, winner on the demo.

At 8.00 200 000 more viewers where there for Ugly Betty, with 9.20 million and a 2.8 on the demo, while My Name Is Earl finally (almost) reached 7 million viewers (6.99 million), something that hadn’t happen since October 9th ! The show was up, thus making the horrible Kath & Kim look ever worse, as the show only kept 5.08 million viewers on NBC (half a million less than a week ago). I’m sure NBC is happy that picked it up for a full season…

Supernatural: I Know What You Did Last Summer

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 14, 2008

Supernatural(S04E09) Maybe it gets old, because I feel like I might be saying this every week, but it just happens to be true : this show is awesome, and might be delivering its best season to date ! I’ve been watching the show ever since it premiered, and I always loved it, but things have evolved over time and the show isn’t like it used to be years ago. It almost feels now like Lost did, ever since the end-date had been set and writers could focus on where to bring the show, how they wanted it to end, as they knew exactly when this would be.

No such thing has been set for Supernatural, at least not officially, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the creative minds behind the show had their own date in mind, and knew exactly what would happen then, thus focusing on bringing is to that point. Because there’s this incredible sense of strength and confidence this season, especially in episodes such as this one where the whole mythology and overall story is at play, that makes everything feel so much better – and it was already pretty awesome to being with.

The 35th Annual People’s Choice Awards Nominees

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 10, 2008

People Choice AwardThe 35th Annual People’s Choice Awards Nominees have been announced, and for the most part there’s really not much to say, except that sometimes it feels even more wrong than the Emmys, which is saying a lot considering. Favorite dramas only include the major hits (CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, House) completely missing even the fantastic Lost and its mind-blowing season, not nominated at all.

Just like for comedies are missing the most hilarious sitcoms on the air — that’s right, no mention of 30 Rock, The Office or How I Met Your Mother ! How is that even possible ??

Thursday’s Numbers [11.06.2008]

NumbersLast night even is CSI was down and Grey’s Anatomy up, and even if ABC medical-hit did win the demo, CBS was the big winner of the night. The network came first on viewers (13.75 million) but also on the demo (4.0), mostly because Survivor did much better than ABC’s Ugly Betty (3.9 vs 2.7)

At 8.00 Ugly Betty was actually up and getting close again to 9 million viewers (8.95 million), even if we’re still way below last season’s result (11 million). Meanwhile on NBC finally some good news, as My Name Is Earl was up 400 000 viewers (6.62 million) and, some for unexplainable reason, Kath & Kim was also up, with 100 000 more viewers. Still, 5.57 million viewers and 2.4 (2.7 for Earl) isn’t really good, but then again neither is the show.

Supernatural: Wishful Thinking

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 7, 2008

Supernatural(S04E08) Week after week it keeps happening, every single episode so far is confirming that this season of Supernatural might just be the very best one to date. It’s been a long road since Sam joined his big brother into a never-ending fight (or will it end some day?) against the forces of Evil, and now both brothers are in very different and unique positions, each for different reasons.

Sometimes an episode of Supernatural can be very intense, very dark and strong on the whole mythology, and sometimes it’s a much lighter tone, even going for a completely hilarious tone on occasions. Often, it’s a perfect mix of different things, as was this week’s episode. Last week we ended things with Sam using his powers in front of Dean’s eyes, and they never got to talk about it.
