(S04E22) Lots of season finale happening these days, and with a few shows there will be things that we saw coming, things we didn’t see coming at all, things that blow our minds, and things that we’re dying to find out but will have to wait months and months until the next season before we can hope to get any answers. It’s the way it goes, and we’re used to it.
This season was a really strong season, with a great mythology arc planned all the way through, some really cool villains, great moments between the brothers and of course so hilarious standalone episodes. All of this leading us to this moment, the end of the season, and I’m not sure whether or not you will agree, but I was somewhat disappointed myself.

(S04E21) Last episode ended with a shocking event and lots of promises for this week, and maybe I had build up a bit too much my expectations about this episode, but in the end I felt somewhat disappointed by this episode, which pretty much didn’t had that feeling of amazement or excitement you’d think it should have had. At the end of the day, even if you weren’t fully disappointed by what you saw, you still had to seriously hope that next week, for the season finale, things would get a whole lot better.
Something big is coming, we’ve know that for a long time, with plenty of people warning us about it, some just regular people, some demons, some angels, and more. And because we’re not stupid, we all knew that in the end there would be a fight between the two brothers, that what it would all come down to would be a fraternal love being challenged, and Sam vs Dean.

(S04E20) What makes an episode memorable? What is required for an episode to get that status? Looking at the definition of memorable, we find ‘worth remembering or easily remembered because it is very special or important.‘ In other words, all it takes for an episode to become memorable is very little, in a way. Of course an episode that is nothing but a full hour of pure awesomeness from beginning to end will do the trick, but much less will be enough.
It doesn’t have to be great, and it doesn’t have to last long. If it is only in the last minute of the episode that something worth remembering actually happens, is it enough to make the episode memorable? Does that still stand even though what happens is nothing really, but a set up, putting things in place, getting ready to kick some serious ass next time? If so, then this episode was memorable…

(S04E18) This was something. As we all know, this show is able to either go fully into the big arc, the ongoing war, the mythology and deliver an episode all about Lilith, Lucifer, and the destiny of Dean and what will happen to Sam, or it can also deliver a standalone episode with a self-contained story, or it could even do that while almost turning the show into a full comedy, and being way more hilarious than actual comedies are.
Lately we have been attacking the issue of the ongoing war, with Sam sucking demon blood and Dean not sure he’s worthy, while the consensus is that he’s the only one who can save us all. This week, this episode started by reminding me of another show…

* It is undeniable, E.R. was a game changer, and one Hell of a great TV show! And tonight, finally, it’s the very last episode. It’s been a while since I left the Cook County myself (some time after Mark passed away) but I think I have to watch this, even if I might not know a lot of faces, just because it’s the very last episode of a show I once was deeply addicted to. Also, the delicious Alexis Bledel guest stars.
* At 8.00 ABC has a new In The Motherhood
* On Fox there’s a new episode of Bones
* The CW has a new Smallville
* And NBC opens with a retrospective of E.R.
* Followed at 9.00 by the two-hour series finale of E.R.
* While CBS has a new CSI
* And on The CW the war isn’t over, with a new Supernatural
* And at 10.00 CBS has the season finale of Eleventh Hour

(S04E17) Sometimes we get an episode that’s all about the ongoing war and the mythology of the show, other times we get episodes that are entirely self-contained and like a break from the terrible reality the brothers live in — because considering all they see and have to face, sometimes having for enemy an alcoholic porn-addicted teddy bear is just what you need.
Either way, the writers are talented enough to make it work, and whether or not you expected the show to go in that direction, you usually end up liking it. This week however, it didn’t really work for me. I’m not sure I would say the episode was bad, because there were enough “easter eggs” to make things interesting for us fans (Smith & Wesson, anyone?), but that was just a pointless filler.
