(S12E14) Well, this sucks. We’re not even in December, but already this was the last episode of South Park we’ll get in a while, not because the show goes on a break but because this was the season finale. Now we have to wait for months before next season, which should premiere sometime in April or May 2009. In the mean time, when looking back at this season, we’ll have plenty of stuff to laugh about.
It was a pretty good season, sometimes episodes weren’t that good but we’ve also had some awesome ones. While it’s possible that, this being the season finale, I was really expecting/hoping for a really great episode, I have to say I was disappointed this week. This episode wasn’t that bad, but it really was not great per se.

(S12E13) Well, with a title like that it’s pretty obvious what this episode would be about, making fun of High School Musical. Now I never seen any of those movies, though I can tell from the few clips I’ve seen of it that I can’t stand it, and I’m sure there were things I didn’t catch because of that, but I’m perfectly fine with it. Even more so, because this episode worked even if you never watched HSM.
Sure, it was a parody of the movies and making fun of that new trend, and their bogus message that everyone is special and can succeed without ever really overcoming any real obstacle, and be who they are exactly like everyone else, but the episode was also really funny and you didn’t need to know anything about HSM to enjoy it. Plus, long before those movies, the boys of South Park had burst into songs and became pop stars, so we all know Parker & Stone have no problem coming up with great, catchy tunes.

The 35th Annual People’s Choice Awards Nominees have been announced, and for the most part there’s really not much to say, except that sometimes it feels even more wrong than the Emmys, which is saying a lot considering. Favorite dramas only include the major hits (CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, House) completely missing even the fantastic Lost and its mind-blowing season, not nominated at all.
Just like for comedies are missing the most hilarious sitcoms on the air — that’s right, no mention of 30 Rock, The Office or How I Met Your Mother ! How is that even possible ??

(S12E12) Holy Molly! Yeah, that was one Hell of an impressive episode, to say the least. Now because I don’t want to spoil it right now before the jump I won’t go into specific for now, only to say that while in the past weeks we’ve seen some giant guinea pigs, rabbits, mouse, bees and other spiders attacking the world and destroying everything, and maybe you were, too, wondering why this didn’t had a stronger connection with the Presidential election, why South Park never said anything about either candidates, and this episode was our answer.
Two days ago was the election of the next President of the United States, and last night Trey Parker & Matt Stone finally had their special episode about it. And the first thing that comes to mind, when thinking about it, is no less than a “Holy Molly!“. I think we all knew that those guys were able to react to current events much faster than anybody else, but that one was impressive.

(S12E11) Well, despite the lack of the usual “to be continued” last week, as we all expected it to be (I’d imagine) this episode was the follow up on the adventures of Craig and his Peruvian Flute Band. Now last week the episode was great, but I wasn’t exactly sure whether it was supposed to mean something more than what it first looked like. Was there some political metaphor hidden somewhere behind the guinea pigs ? I couldn’t tell you, but we had some very interesting analysis of the whole thing in the comments.
This week, I feel the same in that I’m not sure if there was really something more to it, but I’m pretty fine with the idea that there was none, and this was just a moment of crazy fun. After all the parody of disaster-movie continued, Cloverfield first in line, and that movie didn’t had any (hidden) messages or anything, it was just a monster showing up and people reacting to it.

(S12E10) Watching this episode reminded me of how much the show has changed, evolved over the years. It’s actually hard to believe that this is he 12th season already. I know it is but men, 12 years !! That’s an awful long time, and if after all those years the kids are still the same little kids they used to be back when the show premiered, I quick look at the opening credits is enough to remind us how much happened since then.
That, and also how the show changed from the pilot, even simply in the way it’s done. No more paper and scissors of course, South Park evolved to a level of animation much more evolved than what it once was, and they’re now able to come up with some really crazy shit, scenes you wouldn’t have ever expected to see on this show.
