(S03E09) Keeping up with its tradition, Psych came out of hiding for a special Christmas episode before hibernating again, only to return January 9th. While other shows are starting to go away for the holidays it was a very nice reminder to get to see Shawn and Gus one last time this year, and bring into our homes a little of that Christmas joy…
One year ago we got to meet Gus’ parents, and this time they were back - with a little change as Gus’ father was portrayed by Keith David instead of Ernie Hudson - and they brought someone else with them, someone we hadn’t met yet, unlike Shawn who had even done a little more than just that. I hear that.

Shows: Burn Notice, Monk, Psych

Good news everyone, USA announced today that two of its hit series have just been renewed. Psych and Burn Notice have been renewed for a fourth and third season respectively. Both shows received orders for 16 episodes.
“We’re really lucky to have a broad palate of success with two very different shows that work in our brand filter — one a buddy comedy and the other a sexy action show, one produced in-house and the other by a third party. But both are character-based, and both very much fit within our ‘Characters Welcome’ brand.” said Jeff Wachtel, executive vp original programming at USA and co-head of original content at Universal Cable Prods.
Both series will be returning on USA in January with the second half of their current seasons, while new seasons are scheduled to premiere next summer. Note that, as usual, Psych will have a Christmas-special episode in December.
When asked about the other USA hit, Monk, Wachtel said nothing has been determined yet, but “we’d love to have it back and will be making an announcement when the time is right.“

Shows: Burn Notice, Monk, Psych

(S03E08) Finally got to see what is already, as hard to believe as it may be, the “mid-season finale” (or summer finale) of Psych. That is to say it’s already episode 8 if this new season, we’re halfway through and we won’t be seeing any new episode until next year (except for a special Christmas episode). Yes, as the fall season is only starting up, time as already come where we have to say goodbye to Shawn & Gus for a little while…
And the most amazing part might be that we pretty much never had one episode as we used to get all season long in the past, one episode where our two friends would be working a case with the Police Department and their lead detectives, Lassiter & Juliet. The show ventured into drama territory, tried new things to break away from the “formula” of past seasons, and to be honest it wasn’t always for the best.

(S03E07) Yes, it’s Sunday and I’m just posting about the latest episode of Psych, I know. As things turned out, I got busy and couldn’t get to my little screen sooner. But now that I have, let’s talk derby!
It went by fast enough that you may not have realized this already, but we’re already soon approaching the mid-season mark here, as next week will be the “mid-season finale” before the show takes its usual little break. Before that, this week we had, finally, something I have been waiting for since the beginning of this season pretty much, the longer I had to wait for it the more I wanted it, and finally, this was the day.

And now the week comes to an end. Friday nights have always been considered the death slots, it’s often when series come to die, where network send the shows they don’t believe in, don’t intend to support, or just keep on the air because they have nothing else to put on, but they’re gone. It’s sad, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some pretty fantastic shows on Fridays actually, either because networks are stupid, or because some shows managed to make Fridays their own…
First, a look at what’s to come…
* At 8.00 Jennifer Love Hewitt is coming back once again on Ghost Whisperer, new season premiering October 3rd; on The CW it will be the return of Everybody Hates Chris, starting October 3rd as well; and NBC will try something with their drama Crusoe, debuting October 17th
* At 8.30 on The CW will be the expected The Game, back October 3rd as well
* At 9.00 while many will still be grieving Moonlight, CBS tries to do something, I guess, with The Ex List, premiering October 3rd
* At 10.00 and despite whatever NBC may think of it, you don’t want to miss one of the greatest show: Life, starting its new season Monday, September 29th at 10.00 and then it’s on Friday, October 3rd at 10.00 also. Then, back on Monday (October 6th) before finally settling down on its regular slot, Fridays at 10.00 starting October 10th (sounds complicated but it’s not, and it’s totally worth it!); meanwhile on CBS maths & cops are back for a new season of Numb3rs, starting October 3rd

(S03E06) I’m running late in my TV watching these days, but I couldn’t have gone for too long without the Friday fun that comes with every episode of Psych. This show has been much fun for quite some time now, but this season something is not like it used to be, hasn’t been ever since it premieres a few weeks ago. It almost looks to me as if they’re trying hard to make it so that no one could “accuse” the show of being formulaic.
So they try to come up with new things, different adventures, anything not to do what could look like what has been done in the past couple of years. While I could appreciate the effort and a fresh flow of creativity is always welcome, to force such a thing week after week might not be the best thing, and I have the feeling that this might actually be hurting the show somewhat.
