(S03E16) Already? Yes, already. This was indeed the last episode of the season, and if when the season began complaints were heard that Shawn & Gus were not investigating actual police cases, leaving Jules & Lassiter in completely separated (boring) fillers, this time we certainly cannot say anything like that. This episode was also another example of something else we saw back when the season premiered : a little more drama mixed in the universe of the show.
At heart, Psych is of course a comedy, and I’m sure many tune in for the great laughs that you get watching those two work the case surrounded by pop references and other silly jokes. But a few times before this season, and again tonight, there’s a more serious tone as drama takes over for a moment. But if in some of the earlier episodes it wasn’t always very well mixed together, this time it was.

(S03E15) Well I don’t know, maybe this will turn out to be a hit & miss, with people either loving or hating it, or maybe it’s just me, but this episode definitely didn’t feel like the usual Psych for me, and I don’t mean that in a good way. Of course, it was appropriate — with a name like that and airing on no other than Friday the 13th, it would have been hard for Gus & Shawn not to get out the horror movies references.
But the truth is, I didn’t like this episode all that much. As a matter of fact, and while I did not hate it or anything like that, I would probably put in at the bottom of the list. To me, this was one of the least interesting episodes of the season so far — though I don’t doubt some of you will have had a different take on it, and maybe call it one of the best ones, who knows!

(S03E14) For most of the season, Shawn and Gus have not been working with the Police Department, they’ve often not even been on cases, official or not, but worked their own cases/mystery. Finally as the end of the season gets closer and closer everyone is back working together on the same case. Doesn’t mean Lassiter always welcomes the help, of course, but that’s because of Shawn.
Shawn has turned down his level of “craziness” over the years, and if at first he used to be all over the place with his psychic act, he’s calmed down now. Because everyone is used to it, because they accept him and the work and he Gus do with out the need for more. Of course, he still has the occasional possessed foot or chat with his pinky toe, but that’s just for fun.

(S03E13) With the Superbowl coming up soon we’re having some kind of a football thematic on different shows lately (especially on NBC-owned networks like USA), but that is not what stands out and will be what’s remembered about this episode. No, what was a lot more important was that we finally got what we’ve been waiting for for quite some time now, a episode like we used to get in past season : one case, Lassiter & O’Hara on it, with the assistance of no other than Shawn & Gus.
For weeks and weeks it seemed writers didn’t want to get back to this usual ways of doing things, aways looking for ways not to really get that same old dynamic back, but they finally did this week, and that made for what can surely be referred to as one of the best episode of the season, no less. It had it all, pop cultures references, plenty of hilarious jokes, interactions with all the characters, and no stupid filler B-plot or anything like it.

(S03E12) Recurring thing about this season has definitely be the fact that for many episodes Shawn & Gus have not been working the usual case alongside Lassie and Jules, and if last week wasn’t there yet, at least it was a step in the right direction. This week we continued to move things in the right direction and while it wasn’t really the same as in past season, we’re getting there.
But I guess writers are still scared of going back to the old mechanic of the original formula, so while the investigation was more straight-forward than some of the things we saw recently, there was still some twists to make it an unusual case. The main of it being, of course, the introduction of another player in the investigation, one that wasn’t falling in love with Shawn or even liking it all that much, not right away at least.
