ABC Schedule for 2009

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 13, 2008

The new schedule for ABC is now official, and truth be told it looks very much like the old one, that that’s by design. As McPherson said, “We’re returning our dominant core group of shows from last fall. The few openings we had we’ve filled with the kind of quality programming viewers have come to expect from ABC, and we have a very strong bench.

Full schedule, recap and reactions after the jump!

The Strike Might Help A Few Shows…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 5, 2008

The writers’ strike has had an impact on television and many shows. Yes, all main hits like CSI, Grey’s Anatomy or House are back and doing well, but they’re just not doing as well as they used to a few months ago, before that whole mess. It could be the weather, for some it could be the new time slots, but chances are the strike had a part to play in this, whether it just drove people away from TV, and allowed them to realize they didn’t actually miss that show they used to watch religiously and thought they couldn’t live without.

But according to The Hollywood Reporter’s James Hibberd, it might be a win for some shows, because since even the big hits don’t do as well as before, networks might be inclined to give second chances to more shows than they would have otherwise. So, is your favorite show on the list of the shows on the bubble likely to be renewed, or are you still screwed ?

Monday’s Numbers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | March 11, 2008

Last night wasn’t the greatest night, given than all networks average below 10 million viewers ! It was close, but somehow CBS was able to win the night in total viewers as well as on the demo.

At 8.00 premiered yet another legal drama on Fox, and it’s going to be canceled really soon. It’s a miracle if the show gets to have all its completed episode on the air, because it really didn’t do well : only 7.6 million viewers tuned in to see Canterbury’s Law ! Of course, when you know the most-watched program at that time only had 100 000 more viewers, it may put things into perspective.

Tonight On TV

* Tonight is a night to give a chance to new series on Fox.

* At 8.00 premieres their latest one, Canterbury’s Law. So it’s another legal drama, but it’s supposed to be good, with a strong female lead, Julianna Margulies, that some described even as a female version of House. Tune in and check out for yourself…

* Following if the latest episode of another new series, New Amsterdam. This will be the third episode, and the first not to have American Idol as lead-in, so it will be a real test for the show, which hasn’t done very well so far and has yet to turn into something really good…

* Meanwhile at 9.00 ABC has the two-hour season finale of October Road, the show no one really watches, or likes, but that remains on the air year after year.

* At 9.30 on CBS comes a new episode of New Adventures Of Old Christine

* While on HBO I guess Laura is somehow back again, in a new In Treatment

* Finally at 10.00 NBC has a new Medium

With a little help from a royal family, ABC won the night in total viewers, being the only network to average over 10 million viewers overnight (11.2 million). On the demo it wasn’t as easy, and both ABC and Fox tied on the first place with 3.1

So at least you got that, for its two-hour “season finale”, or just the last two completed episodes of the season, Terminator was able to put Fox on the first spot on the 18-49 demo. After a season low last weak going way below the 8 million viewers (7.1 million), this week it was back up around 8 million and with a 3.1 on the demo, some good results overall.

Tonight On TV: Terminator 2-hour season finale ! Plus In Treatment, Old Christine, The Captain, Medium…

Tonight On TV

* First off, apologies for the lack of Breaking Bad mention today, things got messed up and I don’t have it. Haven’t seen it yet, I’m sad, it really hurts inside, I hope to see it very soon though and I’ll review it then…

* To get me thinking of something else, tonight is a big night for all sci-fi lovers out there, and a sad one at the same time. Starting one hour earlier than usual, at 8.00 on Fox they’re back in a new episode… Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles !

* Not only one, but two, two episodes ! The two last episodes of the season back-to-back tonight, for a season finale coming in sooner than expected (due to the writers’ strike), but I’m sure it’ll be great, and Fox better renew this show for a second season cause we’ll be pissed if the don’t, am I right!?

* In other news, at 8.30 CBS is still trying with a new Welcome To The Captain ; and after a break for a rerun, at 9.30 comes a new episode of New Adventures Of Old Christine

* 9.30 is also time for a new In Treatment on HBO. Mondays are Laura’s sessions, I wonder how & “why” she’ll come back…

* Also, at 10.00 on ABC your have a new October Road while on NBC you have a new Medium

With a real strong Deal Or No Deal watched by almost 17 million people (and a 5.2 on the 18-49 demo), NBC was a clear winner of the night. Somehow all its reruns didn’t prevent, or helped even, the Eye to beat Fox in total viewers, but of course Fox performed stronger on the demo.

At 8.00 was the season finale of this pretty awful third season of Prison Break, maybe even the series finale, and it was only watched by 7.4 million fans, half a million less than last week. Still it’s about the average for this season anyway, and with a 3.1 on the demo nothing says Fox has buried the show already.

New “comedy” Welcome to The Captain is already in trouble, which isn’t surprising since the show isn’t funny. After a premiere followed by 8.1 million people two weeks ago, the show only drew 5.5 million viewers back last night. And I wouldn’t be surprised if this was only the beginning of the fall…

Tonight On TV: Prison Break, Terminator, Old Christine, In Treatment, Old Christine…

Tonight On TV

* Couple of good stuff to watch tonight.

* I’m a little ashamed to say it, but I’m kinda excited about the new Prison Break (at 8.00 on Fox) tonight. Sure, there’s plenty of problems and stuff that don’t really work, but we’re used to it now. But they finally broke out of Sona, things are finally moving on, it’s like watching the show again, and not some stupid boring crap where nothing ever happens. Too bad this is the last episode completed before the strike, so… season finale? series finale? who knows?!

* Should I even mention the new Welcome To The Captain at 8.30 on CBS ? How come this hasn’t been canceled already, it should never have been put on the air to begin with…

* At 9.00 the big plate, on Fox : Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Flawed, but cool. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next…

* At 9.30 CBS has a new episode of New Adventures Of Old Christine, still haven’t checked this show out, and it still hasn’t been renewed.

* Same time but on HBO, Laura is back for a new In Treatment !

* At 10.00 on ABC October Road continues to slowly die, and a new Medium show up on NBC

After a little weakness last week, Prison Break is back to its usual score, which ain’t that good but that’s the lame season 3 we’re talking about, so 7.9 million viewers us still pretty impressive if you ask me. Meanwhile on CBS the second episode of Welcome To The Captain showed first signs of weakness already, since the show wasn’t even able to keep all viewers from its lead-in, a rerun of How I Met Your Mother (7.2 million) and lost one million viewers since its pilot last week, down at 7.1 million viewers.

At 9.00 Terminator lost about 600 000 viewers since last week, but is still holding over 8 million viewers (8.3 million), doing good in the 18-49 demo (3.5) and growing over its lead-in, so it’s not bad. On CBS at 9.30 came a new episode of New Adventures Of Old Christine, and it was a success with 600 000 more viewers since last week (9.9 million viewers).

Tonight On TV

* Big night tonight, although it’s not that big if you only count either what I personally watch, or what’s good.

* At 8.00 there’s a new Prison Break on Fox. It’s not good, but I watch it. Yes, I’m ashamed, in the mean time last week I think Michael & co finally escaped, for real, so unless they get caught back within the first 10 seconds of this episode, that might be interesting. Or completely lame. We’ll see…

* At 8.30 on CBS comes a new Welcome To The Captain, but the first episode was so unfunny I really don’t think this show will last long.

* At 9.00 we have finally something good, no really : Terminator: Once Upon A Time A Show Had A Name Way Too Long For Its Own Good. Despite that, it’s a good show, real fun to watch.

* Lots of stuff at 9.30 : Notes From The Underbelly on ABC, New Adventures Of Old Christine on CBS, and In Treatment on HBO. Just pick one. Or not. You decide.

* Finally at 10.00 there’s a new October Road on ABC. A show that wasn’t on the list of renewed shows ABC released earlier, did that surprise anyone?
