The Good, The Bad And The Ugly… This Season For Fox

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 18, 2008

Fox(This week we look back at how each of the main networks handled things this past season, as well as looking at how things are looking up for the coming one. Agree ? Disagree ? Share your thoughts and grade networks in the comments below…)

The Good

Fox wasn’t stupid enough to air only the first quarter of an unfinished season of 24, but decided not to air it until they could really/fully air it. Probably pushed by the strike, but they have also given their chances to new series like New Amsterdam or Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and of course they renewed the later, because we all want more Glaubot!

Fox Schedule for 2009

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 15, 2008

The new schedule for Fox is now official, and there’s not much to say : canceling everything new but Terminator, their additions are for the most part the two most-awaited (sci-fi) series of the season, JJ Abrams’ Fringe, and Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse - the later being reserved for mid-season.

Being Fox, they don’t really care about the shows or giving an opportunity for viewers to easily remember when they are or create some nice pairs, shows keep moving all over the place between fall and winter schedule, and I’m not sure there’s really any logic there.

Full schedule, recap and reactions after the jump!

Cancellation/Renewals Roundup: Boston Legal, New Amsterdam, Back To You

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 12, 2008

Boston LegalThe upfronts are coming, and pretty much all networks will announce which shows they have canceled, which they have renewed and which new ones they picked up. Even NBC is planned to make some Late Night announcement, probably that Jimmy Fallon (SNL) will take over Conan O’Brien in 2009 when he takes overs The Tonight Show as Jay Leno goes, well, we don’t know what Leno will do yet.

But many rumors are out already, from the renewal of Boston Legal thanks to the effort of creator David E. Kelley to the unsurprising cancellation of New Amsterdam, and a possible new home for Back To You.

On The Bubble: Is Your Favorite Show Returning ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | April 17, 2008

Eli StoneMany shows already have been renewed for a new season, and yet probably as many are still waiting for an official statement about their future. Of course, as is always the case in such times, fans are anxious and worry for their favorite shows, especially the ones the network doesn’t seem to like so much, or the ones not doing that great in the ratings, despite being really great shows.

Recently Michael Ausiello compiled a list of shows currently hanging in the balance, giving for each of the their “Odds of Survival” rating, somewhere from 0 (it’s dead) to 10 (it will be back). Here’s that list, plus a few more comments by yours truly…

Monday’s Numbers

On Monday, ABC could count on Dancing With The Stars, most-watched program of the night, to help bring in many viewers. It did, and the Alphabet won the night in total viewers. But with the comedy night, CBS was able to do quite well and win on the demo.

At 8.00 Dancing With The Stars won the slot easy, with 16.5 million viewers. Meanwhile, no other program could reach 10 million viewers. But the thing that mattered was the return, in a new timeslot, of Bones. Bones is actually a pretty good, entertaining and underrated show, that I personally think Fox should have put on the post-Superbowl slot. Anyways, it was back and it didn’t perform as good as it used to on Tuesdays, with 8.5 million viewers and 2.8 on the demo.

New Amsterdam: Love Hurts

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | April 15, 2008

New Amsterdam(S01E08) Alright, so we’re here, in what will be the last episode of New Amsterdam for this season, that’s for sure, and also might be the last one for the entire series as well. It is still unclear whether or not Fox will renewed it for a second season, but it hasn’t done really good and I would tend to think the chances are relatively high that you just saw the series finale.

So, did it work ? Was it a good series finale, bringing answers and closure, or was it not ? Did it end with a cliffhanger leaving you waiting for the next season, or not ? And, first and foremost, was it a good episode at all ?

Tonight On TV: The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Bones, New Amsterdam season (series?) finale, Greek, and plenty more!

Tonight On TV

* People, Mondays are looking better & better every week! Many good things this week, let’s see…

* For starter, the CBS comedies are back! Starts at 8.00 with a new episode of The Big Bang Theory

* Meanwhile, on Fox we have a new Bones ! That’s right, new timeslot for the show and first new post-strike episode. It doesn’t look like much, maybe, but it’s a very nice show and if you haven’t, you should check it out. If you already have, you don’t need anyone to know you’ll have to.

* Also at 8.00, a new Greek on ABC Family

* At 8.30 comes a new episode of the hilarious yet still not renewed How I Met Your Mother.

* Then at 9.00, we have the season finale, or is it going to be the series finale of New Amsterdam. Honestly, it could be the later that’d be fine by me, because the show never improved (or even tried to) over time, and it’s way too flawed to keep me interested any longer anyway. If there’s another season, I probably won’t be around…

* On The CW there’s a new One Tree Hill

* At 9.00 on CBS there’s a new Two And A Half Men, followed at 9.30 by a new Rules Of Engagement, back with new post-strike episodes as well.

* 9.30 but on ABC this time, it’s a new Samantha Who?

* Finally at 10.00 it’s on NBC that there’s something, with a new Medium

Monday’s Numbers

No comedy night on CBS last night, and some basketball instead. I would complain about it, but CBS will not, as they were the clear winner of the night, both in total viewers and on the demo.

Part of the 8.00 results for CBS might include basketball in the central time zones, and it sure looks like it’s either that or many many many people tuned in before just to be sure, because a rerun of The Big Bang Theory at 8.00 was followed by 1.5 million more viewers than a new episode last week ! If that’s not due to basketball, I don’t know what it is.

New Amsterdam: Reclassified

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | April 8, 2008

(S01E07) Ever since this show premiered, I’ve had complaints about it. Because the show is far from being perfect, or even just good actually. Let’s face it, it has had enormous problems when it comes to situations actually making sense, sometimes it was so gigantic it’s hard to believe they really expect us to be okay with it, but somehow that never seemed to be a problem because they didn’t try to fix this, they didn’t even stop adding new stupid plot lines like that.

There’s that, and then of course there’s what I mentioned last week : this show doesn’t seem to know what it is, what it wants to be, or what it should be, actually. Maybe they actually realized they had problems making sense when dealing with John being immortal and his quest for “the one”, the soul that would make him mortal, so they decided to focus more on the whole cop aspect of it, but given how that’s always been the weakest part of the show, what we agreed to go through because it was required but not what made the show or what we actually liked, and why we came back week after week, well, needless to say that wasn’t a smart decision.

Tonight On TV: New Amsterdam, Samantha Who?, Greek, Medium

* A slow Monday night, because after their recent return, CBS comedies are taking a little break already, and there’s some Basketball instead tonight. Sucks.

* So, at 8.00 ABC Family has a new Greek

* At 9.00 comes a new episode of New Amsterdam on Fox, and I really hope things start to improve on this show or else, or else what, exactly!

* At 9.30 on ABC it’s the return of Samantha Who? Yeah, not really good, not funny, but after a strong lead-in so it’ll probably do well…

* Finally at 10.00 NBC has a new Medium
