Men In TreesWe are heading into a new week, a week that will not see any series premiering or coming back for a new show as much as it will see series go away, sometimes never to come back.

This Sunday things start in a good note with the return of new episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent on USA, followed by a new and hopefully improved episode of new series In Plain Sight. A show that will have to face the return of Lifetime’s hit Army Wives, back for a second season !

Also worth mentioning this week are the season finale of Greek, and heartbreaking for all the fans of Men In Trees : the very last episode of the series ever is coming. And of course new episodes of freshmen Fear Itself and Swingtown, and a new Battlestar Galactica.

10.00 - In Plain Sight (S01E02) - USA
10.00 - Army Wives (S02E01) - Lifetime

No need to go over what’s on TV every night now, because there’s isn’t much. So again, instead we’ll go over what’s on during the entire week ahead of us. There isn’t much, but already we have three new series premiering this week, and hopefully at least one of them will turn out to be good. A few words about them before the schedule…

* This very Sunday on USA premieres In Plain Sight. I don’t know much about this show, except that it stars Mary McCormack (The West Wing) as Mary Shannon, a U.S. Marshal working in the highly secretive branch of the witness protection program (WITSEC) who relocates Federal Witnesses. I don’t know if it’s gonna be any good, but at least this isn’t yet another show where the main character has some “ability” that helps him/her solve crime, so (s)he will be doing so/helping the police somehow, like so many of USA series, and I’d say about 90% of their upcoming projects as well with any “luck”…

The Strike Might Help A Few Shows…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 5, 2008

The writers’ strike has had an impact on television and many shows. Yes, all main hits like CSI, Grey’s Anatomy or House are back and doing well, but they’re just not doing as well as they used to a few months ago, before that whole mess. It could be the weather, for some it could be the new time slots, but chances are the strike had a part to play in this, whether it just drove people away from TV, and allowed them to realize they didn’t actually miss that show they used to watch religiously and thought they couldn’t live without.

But according to The Hollywood Reporter’s James Hibberd, it might be a win for some shows, because since even the big hits don’t do as well as before, networks might be inclined to give second chances to more shows than they would have otherwise. So, is your favorite show on the list of the shows on the bubble likely to be renewed, or are you still screwed ?

ABC Chops Down Men In Trees

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 5, 2008

Well, fears of Men In Trees‘ fans are becoming a reality on this Monday morning, as Men In Trees series creator Jenny Bicks confirmed to TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello that the show has ben canceled !

Of course, given the way ABC treated the show recently, it’s not a surprise to find out that (a) the show had a hard time keeping it’s audience around, and (b) the network didn’t really care that much about it.

As Bicks said, “I wish the show had not been moved six times and put onto two long hiatuses. No show could survive that. I am really proud of the work we did on Men In Trees. A huge thank you to our supportive fans.

Wednesday’s Numbers

There really isn’t any suspense as it which network won the night, since American Idol was on. Many argue that it’s not what it used to be, that it might never get 30 million viewers again, and while that may be true, it also is truth that last night American Idol had 10 million more viewers than the second most-watched program of the night. Fox could have aired nothing but a black screen at 8.00, with Idol they’d still have won the night, easy.

At 8.00 it wasn’t on yet, and the numbers were pretty low : except for Deal Or No Deal with 10 million viewers, nothing could do better than 7.3 million viewers (Back To You, Fox). Worth noting I guess though, is that while behind in viewers, Fox’s sitcom beat NBC’s game on the demo (2.7 vs 2.3)

Wednesday’s Numbers

Last night ABC opened the night with the Democratic Presidential Debate, and all in all it wasn’t bad. Of course, Fox was still clear winner with a new American Idol, and with new scripted dramas CBS actually performed better. But it was still much better for the Alphabet than the usual Wife Swap and other Supernanny

At 8.00 the Democratic Presidential Debate was actually the most-watched program, and the only one to reach 10 million viewers (10.9 million). Other than that nothing impressive anywhere, so let’s move on to the next hour shall we.

On The Bubble: Is Your Favorite Show Returning ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | April 17, 2008

Eli StoneMany shows already have been renewed for a new season, and yet probably as many are still waiting for an official statement about their future. Of course, as is always the case in such times, fans are anxious and worry for their favorite shows, especially the ones the network doesn’t seem to like so much, or the ones not doing that great in the ratings, despite being really great shows.

Recently Michael Ausiello compiled a list of shows currently hanging in the balance, giving for each of the their “Odds of Survival” rating, somewhere from 0 (it’s dead) to 10 (it will be back). Here’s that list, plus a few more comments by yours truly…
