Jesus, this network is really not exciting at all. I’m not sure what it is they are trying to accomplish at CBS, become the most-watched network again, get more young viewers, I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t working for me. Like, at all.
The Eye is already filled with (almost) nothing but cop-dramas all over the place, with dozens of CSI’s and then plenty of other cop shows, with or without a “twist”, so you could think maybe they have enough of it already, especially when it’s been going on for so long, you’d think maybe they’d want to try new things, pull out the creativity card and try new things, but alas, no.
Well, truth be told sometimes it looks like they do, but whenever they put such a show on the air, and regardless of its quality, they cancel it within the year. It’s like they wanna look like they’re trying, but all they really care about, are cop shows…

They bragged about their new pilot-less process, ordering at least 6 episodes of new series from a script, without “bothering” by first having a pilot episode shot; they also love to say how they go international by co-producing series with other companies; not to mention how they love advertisers and are now asking them for lists of products, then ordering the creative minds to come up with new episodes or series to sell the stuff.
Clearly NBC is trying to innovate, or at least do anything they can think of to show they’re trying, they’re really trying, I’m not sure what it is exactly they’re trying to do, I’m not even sure they do, but they try hard, they never stop trying.
It’s possible I’m a pessimist, it’s possible I have this tendency to hate NBC, anything goes, but the more I read about what’s going on at NBC the more I think it’s not gonna be good, at all. And what really saddens me in this, is that I have a bunch of shows I love which just happen to be on NBC, hence my worries.

Shows: Life, My Own Worst Enemy, Robinson Crusoe, The Office, The Philanthropist
By fred | July 21, 2008
Well, NBC really love to tweak their schedule and I’m sure we haven’t heard the last of them, especially as they’ll realize many of their shows suck given how they ordered 13 episodes based on a blank paper and not even an (original) idea. Anyways, there’s some good to come out of this mess actually, because it will give us a chance to get more of the greatest new series of last season, and one of the best drama on television right now, as Life returns for its sophomore season.
My Own Worst Enemy was originally planned to make its debut on September 29, but it’s been delayed and won’t come on before October 13 ! I guess there might be some trouble with the show or getting things done, so they can use a few more weeks to try to adjust things…
But the important news is that the excellent Life will now premiere sooner than originally planned (October 3), as the new season premiere has been set for September 29 at 10.00 - right after Heroes. Not only that, but fans of the show - starting with me - can rejoice as for its two first weeks, Life will air not once but twice a week, both on Mondays at 10.00 after Heroes, and on its regular timeslot Fridays at 10.00

Shows: Life, My Own Worst Enemy

At this point we have the fall schedule and premiere dates for all the main networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and The CW) so now the only thing that remains is for you to search for the information concerning the shows you love/are interested in.
To make things easier for everyone, I took back the complete new fall schedule compiled before premiere dates were known and updated it. You will find here the complete 2008 fall schedule day by day, with all shows on their slot with their premiere dates included. That way you can see how [insert day here] will be, try to see what you’ll watch and what you’ll have set on your DVR, and when things will be back.
And because sometimes you want to know things the other way around, know what will be on at a given time, I’ve also included the list of all premieres dates ordered by date. With all that, hopefully you should have all the information you need to get ready for next fall.

ABC just released their fall premiere dates, and if on some networks new episodes kick in as soon as early September, on ABC you’ll have to wait a bit longer to get your latest fix. Boston Legal is the first script series to come back, and that won’t happen until September 22 !!
Yep, that late. Could be worse though, imagine you were a fan of, say, Pushing Daisies or Dirty Sexy Money, then September won’t be easy on you, because they’re not returning to the air before October ! Though they do kick on on the first day of the month, if that’s any comfort… If you’re waiting for Samantha Who? or Eli Stone on the other hand, you don’t even get such comfort, as they will return respectively on October 6, and October 14 !
ABC new series are Opportunity Knocks, premiering on September 23; and Life On Mars, coming in much later, on October 9.
Interested in a full listing, followed by a complete listing of all shows premiere dates (ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC) ? It’s all after the jump !

Well, today we have even more Emmy talk to do, as the semi-finalists for Best Drama Actor and Best Drama Actress are out. Well, it’s not really official but sources are trusted. Some good choices have been made, but there are a few names missing as well, sadly.
I’m happy to see Bryan Cranston, terrific on Breaking Bad, or Gabriel Byrne, amazing on In Treatment, on the list, and of course it’s great to see Hugh Laurie (House) there, even though the Academy never bothered giving the guy an award so far. At least it helps a bit swallowing the absence of Robert Sean Leonard as Supporting Drama Actor.
However, I’m really sad not to see Damian Lewis on that list, not just because I feel Life was the greatest new show last season, but because he was delivering one Hell of a performance, in a pure terrific British tradition, as initiated by Hugh Laurie. And, really, Patrick Dempsey ?? Okay he’s McDreamy and all, but really?? James Spader ?? Oh come one people… Matthew Fox on Lost way also way better!

And now the list for Best Supporting Drama Actress is out, and I’ll say that there are two big names I’m shocked not to see on that list, because I felt they should be actual nominees for the award : the first one is Sarah Shahi, from NBC’s Life. She’s been quite amazing the entire season opposing Damian Lewis, and I’m really shocked not to see her here. I guess it was to do with Life not getting lots of press somehow, even though it was simply the best new series of the season, hands down.
Well, I surely hope Damian Lewis won’t be overlooked either, because he is too doing some amazing job !
The second name I’m shocked not to see here is Mia Wasikowska, known as Sophie on HBO’s daily series In Treatment ! She was nothing but amazing, and I cannot believe she’s not on that list ! Eben more shocking to me, Dianne Wiest, from In Treatment as well, is. It’s not that she was bad, but I honestly feel Mia Wasikowska deserves the nomination a lot more, but I guess her name wasn’t known enough… what a bunch of crap!

As we sometimes wonder what to watch these days, cause there isn’t really much on (though tonight we got both Swingtown and Fear Itself), the premiere dates for next fall keeps coming in.
We can now add CBS to the list, and it’s pretty straight forward, no surprise, no special time slot for the premiere, nothing like that. When it comes to CBS, September 22 will be the D day. On this Monday will return the comedy night (introducing new series Worst Week), and the usual CSI: Miami that comes after.
Then, the two next days gets to see their shows back on, and it stops. Until Friday, October 3 where new series come back again, ending the return of CBS series on Thursday, October 9 with CSI and new series Eleventh Hour.
Full listing, and a reminder of when the other shows come back, it’s all after the jump !

Do you remember ?
It was the beginning of the year 2008, writers were on strike, studios were lying and refusing to even talk, actors were supporting their beloved writers (even Katherine Heigl), and on TV there was nothing but the occasional American Idol eight times a week or so. Aww, good times.
Yes, it was the good times, when we saw the global television audience drop and many viewers leaving never to return, when the strike cost Los Angeles around $3 billion…
In other words, it was great, so much that networks & studios are hoping we can do it again this summer ! What do you say, are you in ??

(This week we look back at how each of the main networks handled things this past season, as well as looking at how things are looking up for the coming one. Agree ? Disagree ? Share your thoughts and grade networks in the comments below…)
The Good
This season NBC had some really good series on, and not only that but they had simply the best new series of the season : Life. Some very good new series (again, Life, but also Journeyman) and some very good returning series (30 Rock, The Office, …), at first it really looks like NBC might be a winner.
(Side note: For all fans of Life out there, there’s a new fansite around, The Path To Zen, on which you can find (among other things) a really great & interesting read about how Life could become a big hit, if NBC believed in it! I highly recommend the read, especially if you like the show…)
Adding to that the renewal of newcomers Life and Chuck, both deserving a second season for sure, or finding a way to save fan-favorite Friday Night Lights, NBC looks like a winner.
And yet, they’re not.
