On The Bubble: Is Your Favorite Show Returning ?

Eli StoneMany shows already have been renewed for a new season, and yet probably as many are still waiting for an official statement about their future. Of course, as is always the case in such times, fans are anxious and worry for their favorite shows, especially the ones the network doesn’t seem to like so much, or the ones not doing that great in the ratings, despite being really great shows.

Recently Michael Ausiello compiled a list of shows currently hanging in the balance, giving for each of the their “Odds of Survival” rating, somewhere from 0 (it’s dead) to 10 (it will be back). Here’s that list, plus a few more comments by yours truly…

Cancellation roundup!

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | February 21, 2008

Nestor CarbonellNow that the strike is over, lots of shows are (finally) getting canceled, more or less officially, on every network.

* I’ll start with one that actually really pleases me : CBS has canceled Cane. The show is done, and I’m happy about this because it could be good news for Lost ! I’m happy not because I thought the show wasn’t good, even though that’s true, but because I sure hope that now Nestor Carbonell can find its way back to Lost, because we need to find out more about the never-aging Richard Alpert !

* Still no official word yet from NBC, but according to different sources from Michael Ausiello the Peacock has finally decided to put crappy Bionic Woman to rest.

Friday’s Numbers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | February 16, 2008

Not much to say about Friday, there wasn’t much on really. NBC won the night in total viewers, thanks to the 2-hours season finale of Las Vegas, which performed really well and kept the 8 million viewers from its lead-in for two hours. Meanwhile Fox took the 18-49 demo thanks to rerun of their hit-drama House.

And as usual, ABC tanked down and got beaten by The CW and their Friday Smackdown, although it should be noted that at 10.00 20/20 performed better than the rerun of Numb3rs on CBS.

Tonight On TV: last Psych, In Treatment, last Las Vegas, Monk

Tonight On TV

* A relatively slower TV night, which is a good thing for me, I got stuff waiting on my DVR !

* So we begin at 9.00 with Monk on USA, and Las Vegas on NBC. Yes, one hour earlier, and it’s on for two hours. Reason: it’s the season finale.

* Or, we wait until 9.30 and a new In Treatment on HBO…

* Either way, the real thing tonight is the new Psych, coming at 10.00 on USA ! I’ve got some bad news for you fans of Gus & Shawn though : yes, this is the season finale !

Friday’s Numbers

Last night NBC had 6.7 million viewers overnight, and it was the most-watched network of the night. Gives you an idea of how things went down. If you need more, the most-watched program of the night, was a rerun. Sounds awesome, right?

At 8.00, nothing. Really, it’s rerun almost everywhere and The CW beating ABC, nothing new for a Friday night. One hour later there’s change though, maybe it’s because The CW announced that it wouldn’t renew their Friday Night Smackdown - which seems odd to me given how it’s usually a strong performer, not that I care, though - but either way the second half of the show performed a lot less, loosing 1.1 million viewers and down to 3.2 million, behind ABC and their rerun of Desperate Housewives, followed by 3.8 million viewers.

Tonight On TV

* As always these days nothing comes before 9.00 And what does come at 9.00 ? The very last episode of Friday Night Lights to air on NBC. Ever. Well, nothing it set in stone for now, but it is the last completed episode, it is the season finale, and unless fans start sending lots of [whatever] to NBC, it’ll probably be the series finale as well…

* At 9.30 there’s a new In Treatment in HBO, as every day of the week.

* At 10.00 get ready to laugh with a new installment of Psych on USA

* Meanwhile NBC has a new Las Vegas

Last night it was a Friday, and there’s a strike going on, so many TVs were off. Not only that, but there wasn’t much on, so it’ll be quick.

At 8.00 nothing worth it was on, NBC came first on total viewers and on the 18-49 demo, just like it did over night (well, it’s a tie on the demo between NBC and Fox). At 9.00 a rerun of House came first before another rerun, one of Moonlight. Only then came Friday Night Lights, which did a little better than the past weeks with 5.6 million viewers.

Strike Update : How will you favorite shows be affected ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 28, 2008

Let’s start this week with an update of our famous grid of how the strike affects your favorite series. As you’ll see, many series are now completely MIA, and quite a lot only have very few episodes before leaving us as well… Let’s hope that strike gets resolved soon, because even if it does we’re still in for weeks of nothing!

So again you will have a first chart with as many series as I could get info about, and for each of them how many episodes already aired, how many should be done and waiting in the can (written & produced), and then what we all care about, how many are left - as of today, 01/28/08. I’ve also added how many episodes had been ordered.

Friday’s Numbers

Last night was a pretty slow night. Of course, it was a Friday, and then there was a shitload of reruns everywhere. That’s not really something that will get people to watch TV… CBS won the night in total viewers, but was down to the third place on the 18-49 demo, beaten by Fox and NBC, winner of the night and second in total viewers.

At 9.00 CBS won with Garth Brooks Live with 8.2 million viewers, although Moonlight usually does better both in total viewers and on the 18-49 demo. Second was a rerun of House on Fox with 7.6 million viewers, and then came Friday Night Lights a little below with 5.4 million viewers, same numbers as usual for the show.
