Well, NBC finally announced part of their schedule for 2009 - part only, because it’s only what to expect for January, nothing yet as what will come after that - and while fans of Friday Night Lights who are waiting for the show to come on NBC will be happy to know they finally have a date to circle on the calendar - that would be be Friday, January 16th - others will probably be sad to see their shows missing.
Do you remember how ratings for shows such as Life or Chuck (to stay on NBC, but the same was true for Pushing Daisies or Eli Stone among others…) were down this season compared to the last ?? Does anyone still doubt that imposing (long) hiatus of shows will hurt them, especially if they’re not major hit likes 24 or Lost ? Don’t anyone remember how it killed Jericho ? Or, yes, Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, Dirty Sexy Money, or to go back to the Peacock, how it hurt Life or Chuck in their current sophomore seasons ?

Shows: 30 Rock, E.R., Friday Night Lights, Kath & Kim, Knight Rider, Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, My Name Is Earl, The Last Templar, The Office

Typical Thursday night last night, CBS being the big winner, CSI the most-watched program and Grey’s Anatomy the best performing on the demo. What else is new?
At 8.00 My Name Is Earl was slightly down (-250 000) but in some deeply depressing news, Kath & Kim was up (+400 000) with 5.47 million viewers and a 2.3 on the demo. I don’t know, I don’t get it, I’d rather just pretend I didn’t know. Meanwhile on The CW it looks very impressive for Smallville (4.77 million viewers, 2.0 on the demo) but that’s all because football was aired in a couple of states, so expect final numbers to actually go down.

Anyone still wondering why NBC is in the toilet ?
This is either quite funny, or sad depressingly sad and pathetic, depending on how you decide to look at things. According to Page Six, NBC Entertainment co-chair Ben Silverman will not only not be blamed for the Peacock’s lackluster fall schedule, but he is putting all the blame on someone else - Universal Media Studio President Katherine Pope - and that works so well that while she might get fired or something, Silverman could get a raise !!
Just how mind-blowing is that ?? The guy is a moron who should get fired for its poor work, because the network’s failing schedule is all on him, but instead he is apparently still praised, as one network insider told Page Six that “the company is very happy with Ben. He is deep in negotiations to re-up his contract with NBC, and he has the network up 50 percent profit from year to year.”
Just shoot me now.

Shows: Crusoe, Kath & Kim, Knight Rider, My Own Worst Enemy
By fred | November 14, 2008
Last night had CBS winning the night both in viewers (14.55 million) and on the demo (4.1) thanks to an ever well-performing CSI, most-watched program of the night, while ABC came in second (11.24 million viewers, 3.9) with many thanks to Grey’s Anatomy, winner on the demo.
At 8.00 200 000 more viewers where there for Ugly Betty, with 9.20 million and a 2.8 on the demo, while My Name Is Earl finally (almost) reached 7 million viewers (6.99 million), something that hadn’t happen since October 9th ! The show was up, thus making the horrible Kath & Kim look ever worse, as the show only kept 5.08 million viewers on NBC (half a million less than a week ago). I’m sure NBC is happy that picked it up for a full season…

The 35th Annual People’s Choice Awards Nominees have been announced, and for the most part there’s really not much to say, except that sometimes it feels even more wrong than the Emmys, which is saying a lot considering. Favorite dramas only include the major hits (CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, House) completely missing even the fantastic Lost and its mind-blowing season, not nominated at all.
Just like for comedies are missing the most hilarious sitcoms on the air — that’s right, no mention of 30 Rock, The Office or How I Met Your Mother ! How is that even possible ??

Last night even is CSI was down and Grey’s Anatomy up, and even if ABC medical-hit did win the demo, CBS was the big winner of the night. The network came first on viewers (13.75 million) but also on the demo (4.0), mostly because Survivor did much better than ABC’s Ugly Betty (3.9 vs 2.7)
At 8.00 Ugly Betty was actually up and getting close again to 9 million viewers (8.95 million), even if we’re still way below last season’s result (11 million). Meanwhile on NBC finally some good news, as My Name Is Earl was up 400 000 viewers (6.62 million) and, some for unexplainable reason, Kath & Kim was also up, with 100 000 more viewers. Still, 5.57 million viewers and 2.4 (2.7 for Earl) isn’t really good, but then again neither is the show.

* Excuse me, but I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. Yes, NBC picked up for a full season their latest crap, Kath & Kim, proving once again how much trouble they were in. Either that, or it’s just because the show happens to come from Ben Silverman’s production company Reveille, and since the guy is crazy and clearly loves to put really bad show on the air.
Anyways, the back-nine order is there, and since I seriously doubt either Crusoe - which is bad and performing and worse - or the newly sent to die Lipstick Jungle - which wouldn’t even be doing nicely if on The CW - will get a pick-up, I can only hope Life will get its much-deserved back-nine order. Otherwise, I won’t bother with any new shows on NBC which, based on their new series so far this season, wouldn’t change much anyway for me.
