Jericho back on The CW !

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 20, 2008

JerichoMedia Rights Capital was in charge of Sunday nights on The CW, but it never really worked. Valentine and Easy Money didn’t even average 1 million viewers per night, and about 0.3 on the demo. Needless to say it was a complete failure and wasn’t going to last — even though I’m not sure why they kept airing reruns lately, sure original episodes barely got more viewers, but it was still more viewers, and at least the few watching the shows could keep watching…

Anyways, The CW is taking its Sunday nights back, and one of the rerun shows to be aired is no other than… Jericho! Remember Jericho? The show about nuclear explosions that CBS killed halfway through its first season, then canceled, then brought back for a shortened second season but not without ensuring said season wouldn’t have a chance to succeed because, well, it’s CBS !?

CBS: definitely doesn’t stand for Come Back Soon !

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | September 17, 2008

CBSCBS. Three letters that could mean so many things, and I’m sure many of you could think of a few significations for what you think those letters represent, I can already see the first letter linked to CSI or “Crap” for instance…

One thing these letters definitely do not stand for, though, is Come Back Soon. Nope, apparently The Eye doesn’t want you back, not really. It may pretend to, the press release might claim that’s the case, but we know better, don’t we?

I’m sure if you go on and ask fans of series like Jericho or Moonlight, you’ll find people who still haven’t given up on television, and are still willing to watch some, maybe lots even, and that might still include network television as well. Yet, mention CBS, and that one network could very well be on their blacklist. No big surprises here, when you have a look at the way the network treated them, and their beloved show.

But don’t feel alone, simple viewer that you are, because it’s the same thing on the other side of the screen, CBS treats everyone the same, obviously (and sadly), and now it’s not just viewers who are putting The Eye on their blacklist ! So there might be hope…

Why do networks always assume they know better ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | August 29, 2008

SuitsIt’s something that probably isn’t new, but it is here, and when you’re a TVoholic or just happen to love good television, even in small doses, it’s a disgusting thing to see. Yet it’s here, everywhere, and it is more and more frequent every day : Networks think they know better.

Always, in every network, you will find some stupid execs who love their very expensive suits, and think that if they got here, it means they know better. They know better than the creative minds behind a show what the show should be like and where it should go, they know better than you, viewers, what it is you want to watch. And it’s a funny thing, because those guys do their job in a TV network like they would an airplane company, or selling cars.

That it to say, they have no idea what good television is (and let’s be honest, they probably don’t even care), they don’t know how to write compelling stories, or create interesting characters, those things that will attract millions of people week after week and have us come back each week for more. But because they work for, because they are the network, they know better.

How wrong can Nielsen be ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 31, 2008

NielsenIt’s a recurring question that I’ve been asking myself on many occasions. While it seems widely accepted by every major party on the business that, however flawed Nielsen ratings maybe, they have been an established ratings measurement institution for many years and everyone just agrees to accept whatever numbers they come up with because, at the end of the day, they are believed to represent an overall “accurate” representation of which TV shows are the most watched every day, one can’t help but wonder.

I know many fans of Jericho have repeatedly said that Nielsen wasn’t right, and many more of them were watching the show than was reported. Fans from (many) other shows have also complained, and while it’s easy to say they’re only doing so because they love their shows, sometimes you have to wonder if, really, after all those years and so many spin-offs, CSI remains one of the most-watched series to this day, or if Nielsen families are just not really representative (anymore) of the current households in the United States ?

Lennie James Finds New Show: Is Jericho Dead, For Good ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 26, 2008

Lennie JamesWell, I guess this might be a bad news for all the Jericho Rangers out there who still had hopes their recent efforts to find a new home for their favorite show would succeed, because this could be a sign it won’t happen.

Jericho star Lennie James, best know as Robert Hawkins to the fans, just signed for a new mini-series on AMC, the remake of the classic 1960s show The Prisoner. He will play “Number 147″, a resident of the mysterious Village where a former secret agent, now known as “Number 6″ (Jim Caviezel) finds himself imprisoned.

Other actors to have signed on for the project include Ian McKellen (casted as “Number 2″, apparent head of the Village), Golden Globe nominee Ruth Wilson, Hayley Atwell and Jamie Campbell-Bower.

TV Viewers Are Getting Older, Or… ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 30, 2008

NumbersA new study from research firm Magna Global shows that network TV audience has aged out of the demographic advertisers are fond of, and plenty of reports are already commenting on how the TV audience is getting older, stating that, for the first time, the average live median age for the five broadcast networks combined is now 50.

It used to be that CBS was, by far, the oldest of all networks, with a median age above 50. But now, ABC (50) and NBC (49) are getting closer and closer to The Eye (54), and even Fox is reaching up as well, with a median age of 44, while the median age of the US population in households is still around 38.

But while everyone look at those numbers and think that TV viewers are getting older by the minute, I can’t help myself but wonder… are they ?

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly… This Season For CBS

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 17, 2008

CBS(This week we look back at how each of the main networks handled things this past season, as well as looking at how things are looking up for the coming one. Agree ? Disagree ? Share your thoughts and grade networks in the comments below…)

The Good

… I’m looking … if you have anything, let me know … Alright, that’s unfair. After all, The Big Bang Theory was a very nice surprise this season, so not only bringing it on but giving it a real chance and - of course - renewing it for a second season was probably CBS’ highlight this season.

Jericho Fans Never Give Up, Out To Save The Show Again

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 13, 2008

JerichoI’m not sure who it is who tuned in to watch that new post-apocalyptic TV drama called Jericho CBS premiered a while back, but obviously those guys are not your usual TV show audience, they’re more than just regular viewers, they’re freaking nuts. And here they go at it again !

As you know, once before they sent billions of nuts to CBS and eventually got their favorite show a second season. Sadly, and despite that new (brief) season being stronger than the first, the show was canceled, again. But fans aren’t done with the show yet, and now they have created a fan-funded and -produced television spot that will be running for 10 days (over 250 times) in the Los Angeles area during the second week of June.

After funding an ad in Variety and a gigantic billboard in downtown Los Angeles broadcasting the need for a new home for their favorite show, Jericho fans – or Jericho Rangers, as they’re often called – have put together over $6,000 to purchase TV advertising in what may be a first for a fan community seeking to show support for a beloved show. Here’s the (very nice & well-done) ad :

Jericho: The Alternate Ending Is Here!!

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 12, 2008

JerichoRemember Jericho ? That CBS series about the people from the little town of Jericho, and how they had to survive and eventually save the free world after a nuclear attack was launched upon the USA, and multiple bombs actually went off in all major cities. I’m sure you remember it, it’s the show CBS killed during their first season, and then brought back for a (too) brief second season after millions of fans went literally nuts

As we all know, we’ve seen the series finale of the show, since CBS decided against renewing the show for third season. But, as they were working, producers were still hoping for one, and so they had done two endings : the one we saw, and one with another season in mind. This alternate ending will be on the DVDs of the second (and final) season of Jericho, coming June 17, but if you can’t wait you can see it right here, right now !

Jericho: Alternative ending coming to you on June 17

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | April 10, 2008

JerichoMillions of people are nuts for Jericho, they are truly passionate and committed to their show, so much that they managed to get the show a second season. But it wasn’t enough, they weren’t enough (according to Nielsen at least), sadly, to get the show to get renewed for a third season. There’s talk for such another season on another network, and after what happened to Friday Night Lights many hope.

As far as I’m concerned, I doubt this will happen, but if it was to actually happen, I would be the first to welcome the news and watch such new season. Meanwhile, when they worked on season two, two different endings were shot. As we know, CBS didn’t renew the show and aired the “series finale” ending, leaving the “season finale” one, who’s supposed to be even more opened, unseen by millions.
