(S01E03) Third installment of this new USA series, In Plain Sight, and by now things are coming a little more clear as to what kind of show this will likely develop into, how it will work (or not, actually) and what to expect from it. The two first episodes haven’t been all that good, but at least the second one was a little improvement over the pilot, flawed by being a pilot, so there was hope for a better tomorrow.
Tomorrow is now here, we’re into the third episode already and things are slowly shaping up, and forced to admit that it doesn’t look very good. Sure, Mary is one Hell of a mess, she’s a complicated character and Mary McCormack is doing a nice job in her portrayal. Too bad she can’t really do wonders, because she’s not given much to deal with in the first place.

Another week ahead of us, and along with the couple of shows already on, we have some new additions to make to our summer schedule, courtesy of Showtime, all happening on Monday.
* First off, at 10.00 is the return of a brand new and “re-invented” Weeds. As we all know, last time Nancy made sure her house was gone, so now she’s moving away to a brand new town, no more “little boxes” (including the actual song), leaving a few people behind. Last season wasn’t a good one, let’s face it, and those changes are quite worrying to me I’ll be honest. But we’ll see, maybe it’ll turn out for the best…
* And right after, at 10.30, premieres a new series, Secret Diary Of A Call Girl. The show is about Hanna, who to her parents is a legal secretary. She has a responsible job that involves working lots of unsocial hours in the evening. But in fact, Hanna has a double life, she really is a prostitute who, to her clients, is known as Belle, and can be whatever they want her to be. She can be the quiet girl-next-door, the high-heeled dominatrix who whips them into submission… Her mission is to make money by satisfying male fantasies.

Shows: Army Wives, Fear Itself, In Plain Sight, Law & Order: CI, Secret Diary Of A Call Girl, Swingtown, Weeds

(S01E02) Last week was the introduction of USA latest series, In Plain Sight, and while I wasn’t really pleased with what we got to see, at least USA can be happy about the start for the show, one of their best in a while with over 5 million viewers !
Things have started well, and now comes the real test as we’re heading into the second episode, an episode which will also have some competition to face. But for the moment let’s focus on the episode itself, and how it went. As I said I was really not impressed with the pilot, which looked more like a collection of clichéd scenes and characters than anything else, and in the end wasn’t really good really wasn’t good.
Now we have a second episode, and things are getting a little better. Well, a little less terrible to be exact…

Shows: In Plain Sight
In Series: In Plain Sight Season 1

We are heading into a new week, a week that will not see any series premiering or coming back for a new show as much as it will see series go away, sometimes never to come back.
This Sunday things start in a good note with the return of new episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent on USA, followed by a new and hopefully improved episode of new series In Plain Sight. A show that will have to face the return of Lifetime’s hit Army Wives, back for a second season !
Also worth mentioning this week are the season finale of Greek, and heartbreaking for all the fans of Men In Trees : the very last episode of the series ever is coming. And of course new episodes of freshmen Fear Itself and Swingtown, and a new Battlestar Galactica.

You can think what you want about the first episode of USA new series In Plain Sight, but all the promotion worked as the show started off pretty nicely, being the channel’s most-watched series premiere since The 4400 back in July 2004 !
This Sunday the show was followed by 5.3 million viewers, besting last summer’s debut of Burn Notice on June 28 (4 million viewers) by 32%, or also outperforming the October 4 network debut of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (3.8 million) by 40%
Last year, Burn Notice ended its first season as the cable’s top-rated new series among the 25-54, so seeing In Plain Sight premiere followed by 2.6 million adults 25-34, an increase of 17% over Burn Notice’s premiere, surely is a good sign. Of course, the real question here is how many of those people actually liked what they saw, and are planning on returning.
Because in all honesty, with its pile of clichés everywhere the pilot wasn’t really good, and if this week there wasn’t really any competition, next Sunday it will have to face the return of Lifetime’s Army Wives, premiering its second season.

Shows: In Plain Sight

(S01E01) We didn’t had to wait long before seeing new series premiering this summer, as last night on USA was the series premiere of their latest original show, In Plain Sight. Now I’ll be honest, I’m still a little mad at USA for canceling The 4400 the way they did, and not allowing us to get any closure, conclusion, answers, anything. Especially for a show such such strong serialization going on, to never know how it ends / what it was about / what was really going on is always incredibly frustrating.
Still, why should that stop me from trying new shows, right ? Plus this show had at least two things going for it, one it’s not the usual USA show about someone with a “special ability” solving crimes or helping the police one way or another, like almost all their shows -although, don’t be a fool, it is still about cops… - and two, there’s just absolutely nothing else on.

In Series: In Plain Sight Season 1

No need to go over what’s on TV every night now, because there’s isn’t much. So again, instead we’ll go over what’s on during the entire week ahead of us. There isn’t much, but already we have three new series premiering this week, and hopefully at least one of them will turn out to be good. A few words about them before the schedule…
* This very Sunday on USA premieres In Plain Sight. I don’t know much about this show, except that it stars Mary McCormack (The West Wing) as Mary Shannon, a U.S. Marshal working in the highly secretive branch of the witness protection program (WITSEC) who relocates Federal Witnesses. I don’t know if it’s gonna be any good, but at least this isn’t yet another show where the main character has some “ability” that helps him/her solve crime, so (s)he will be doing so/helping the police somehow, like so many of USA series, and I’d say about 90% of their upcoming projects as well with any “luck”…

Shows: Battlestar Galactica, Fear Itself, Greek, In Plain Sight, Men In Trees, Swingtown

Now that the season is (almost) over, we can start focusing on what to watch this summer. Summer is a time we usually move away from the big four, as they are pretty much filled with nothing but reruns, games, and more reruns. As such, we look more into the ones who keep being creative and providing us with great, exciting content, the cable networks.
Of course, there isn’t always something good, and with the still on-going effects of the recent writers’ strike, well, a few series you might be waiting for won’t be coming back (so soon).
During summer I usually watch The 4400, but USA canceled it so we won’t get any actual closure on that story. And as I said, some series will be returning later than usual, for instance there won’t be no Entourage until September, and I think we might have to wait until 2009 for the new season of FX great hit, Damages. Same goes for Rescue Me, although FX will produce minisodes of Rescue Me this summer.
