Good news for all fans of Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack) and her partner Marshall : USA announced today that new series In Plain Sight had been renewed for a second season !
The new series has been doing extremely well, being currently the #1 new scripted series of 2008 so far. Across the seven weeks it’s been on the air the show has averaged 2.21 million among adults 18-49, and made USA the #1 cable network on its timeslot (Sundays at 10.00) since its premiere among all three demos.
16 episodes have been ordered for the sophomore season of the show, production will start in October, once again entirely shot on location in and around Albuquerque, NM.
Given how last week’s episode was simply the best episode of the show so far, and how it seems they keep getting better & better, I’m really happy to hear that there will be a second season. Once again, USA managed to bring us another great summer hit. Well done.

Shows: In Plain Sight
By fred | July 20, 2008
For a couple of weeks now, USA hit show Burn Notice has been back on our screens. Last year when the show premiered, I watched the first few episodes but didn’t really liked it and stopped watching. This isn’t the only show I simply don’t keep watching after a bit, and I’m sure many of you do the same : after a while, you either don’t like the show enough, or one day you simply miss an episode, wait to watch it from your DVR, and all of a sudden you realize it’s been a few weeks and you didn’t really miss the show.
There’s no real shame, really, there’s quite a lot of shows out there and we only have so little time. But giving shows a second chance is something that might be worth the effort, because just like some shows go downhill after a few seasons, for others it may take a few months or even a full season to get everything in place, find its voice and become actually/really good.

Shows: Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, Psych
By fred | July 15, 2008
(S01E07) Oh look who’s behind schedule here… Yeah, this episode aired Sunday on USA, but I got delayed and only got to finally watch it today. It took me longer than usual to get to watch this episode, I usually am faster at it, but it’s not an uncommon thing for viewers of In Plain Sight not to watch live. In fact, pretty much since it started In Plain Sight has been toping the top time-shifted cable shows, with an increase over 30% from the live audience - and that’s over 1.2 million viewers who, each week, watch the show within seven days after it actually aired.
But back to this episode : Linda Burstyn. Who’s that?, you ask; Well, it’s the name credited for writing this episode, so I assume she is the one we have to thank for what was, without question, the best episode of the series so far, no less. Here’s to hoping that the next episode will follow the very good path that this episode too, because now we’re starting to have a really good show !

Shows: In Plain Sight
In Series: In Plain Sight Season 1
By fred | July 13, 2008
One big week coming up - well, considering how slow things have been lately that is - with the premiere of HBO’s miniseries Generation Kill tonight at 9.00, the return of TNT’s The Closer & Saving Grace on Monday, a new series, The Cleaner, on A&E on Tuesday, and of course the season premiere of summer hit-comedy Psych on USA !! (And also, before it, Monk)
Generation Kill is a seven-parts miniseries based on Evan Wright’s book of the same name about his experiences as an embedded reporter with the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion during the Iraq war’s first phase in 2003. Wright worked on a consultant on the show.
The Cleaner is a new series inspired by the true story of a real-life “extreme interventionist”. The show stars Benjamin Bratt (Law & Order) as William “The Cleaner” Banks, who, after hitting rock-bottom from his own addictions after the birth of his daughter, has now gathered an unconventional team with whom he helps people get away from their addictions by any means necessary.
There should be enough to please everyone, as for myself I can’t wait for Friday and a new episode of Psych ! Of course in the mean time, we got plenty to chew :

(S01E06) Five episodes in, In Plain Sight hasn’t developed into a great show so far. It’s not completely bad either and I do like it so far, but it’s heavily flawed and clichéd all along the way, with a clear habit for a lack on consistency or follow-up on previous events/episodes. I’ll be honest, if there was any competition worth-watching, I might have dropped this show.
But there isn’t really any competition, and it’s not completely terrible, so I keep watching week after week. It hasn’t always turned out for the best, but at least this week I’m happy I kept tuning in, because while still not the best this show could be, I feel this might have been the best episode of the show so far. One thing for sure, it’s the one I enjoyed the most.

In Series: In Plain Sight Season 1
By fred | July 6, 2008
Time to head into one week, and since we’re now in July we can already see some new additions as well ! Nothing that really gets me excited so far, but I’m sure many of you will be excited over the return of what was described as “a summer show, there’s nothing else on, it’s got action and there are some pretty hot women on the show by star Jeffrey Donovan himself.
That’s right, while there won’t be no new episode of Fear Itself this Thursday on NBC, it’s not a problem because all you have to do is switch to USA to see the season premiere of Burn Notice !

(S01E05) At first, USA new series In Plain sight was described as a show about WITSEC and how a couple of U.S. Marshalls would have to deal with whoever was welcomed into the program. And we’ve had some episodes that were mostly about that side of the job, episodes such as last week’s. But sometimes the show uses WITSEC only as a starting point, a way to introduce some characters into what is a very standard police investigation.
This week, that was about it. I mean sure, it started with some people getting into the witness protection program, and yes there was that tiny bit of specificity that made the whole situation slightly different than what you normally have when a couple joins, and it looked like that was part of what the episode was going to be about and focus on.

(S01E04) Aw, In Plain Sight, that new USA series about Mary Shannon, US Marshall who’s not afraid to bend the laws and blah-blah-blah usual stuff. After a highly flawed and really not that good pilot episode, the show seems to have evolve into something that isn’t as bad as it may first have looked, but to be completely honest, something that still isn’t really good either.
So it’s not bad and there’s not really much else on TV these days, all resulting in me tuning in once again and watching a new episode. And now that I have, I can’t really say I’m disappointed by it. It wasn’t really good, it’s no where near the quality of what I’ve become used to see on television, even from cable networks during the summer, but it’s not all bad, and again, there’s really not much else on anyways…
