After a special Thursday last week, we’re now back to normal, with CBS clear winner of the night, CSI most-watched program of the night and Grey’s Anatomy getting its crown back on the demo.
At 8.00 Ugly Betty keeps losing viewers, down to 8.1 million, but at least stays stable on the demo. On NBC things went down : My Name Is Earl lost viewers, down to 6.54 million viewers and 2.6 on the demo, and things were worst – as expected – for Kath & Kim, from 7.5 million to 6.0 million viewers ! Yes, the show lost 1.5 million viewers and 22% on the demo (3.2 to 2.5), and I’m thinking it’s only the beginning…
There were good for Smallville, with 4.15 million viewers and 1.7 on the demo, slight improvement over last week and with Hole In The Wall merely getting 3.62 million viewers (1.4 on the demo), The CW wasn’t the least-watched network of the hour !
A big night of television last night, much to talk about. First things first, the winner of the night was with no contest CBS, winner of the night both in total viewers and on the demo thanks to a very strong start for CSI, most-watched program of the night. And obviously ABC came in second, no surprises there. What might be is that ABC was also second on the demo, and NBC was very close (4.0 vs 3.9)
At 8.00 Ugly Betty keeps going down, with only 8.48 million viewers (about 400 000 less than a week ago) but remained stable on the demo. On NBC My Name Is Earl was slightly up with 7.09 million viewers, leading in to the series premiere of Kath & Kim. I have yet to see how it looks, but one thing for sure is that it started pretty well : the show gained 350 000 viewers from My Name Is Earl, with 7.46 million viewers and a 3.2 on the demo (2.7 for Earl).
* Big night tonight, with already installed series, recently engaged Jam, and a lot of series premiere !
* At 8.00 on ABC there’s a new Ugly Betty
* NBC has a new episode of My Name Is Earl (just one this time)
* And on The CW there’s a new Smallville
* At 8.30 on NBC is the series premiere of Kath & Kim, which based on promos I’ve seen and what I read will be pretty awful, maybe worse than Worst Week, Do Not Disturb or Knight Rider…
* At 9.00 ABC has a new Grey’s Anatomy
* And this time there’s competition on CBS with the season premiere of CSI
* On NBC we have finally a new episode of The Office
* And of course on The CW we’re in the battle of good versus evil on Supernatural
* At 9.30 on NBC it’s SNL Weekend Update
* At 10.00 on ABC it’s the series premiere of Life On Mars
* While on CBS it’s another British-based new show, with CBS’ own Fringe or something, and the series premiere of Eleventh Hour
And of course a new E.R. on NBC
* Don’t forget at 10.30 on Comedy Central a new episode of The Sarah Silverman Program
* And on FX there’s also a series premiere, from a writer of South Park comes Testees
Last night was the first big Thursday, and the winner of the night was clearly ABC. Of course, with a two-hour season premiere for Grey’s Anatomy and no CSI opposing it on CBS, the road was quite open for The Alphabet. Averaging 15.46 million viewers overnight and a 6.0 on the demo, things were pretty good. Thanks to Survivor CBS manager to hold and was a good second spot.
At 8.00 said Survivor won the slot with 13.05 million viewers, followed by the season premiere of Ugly Betty with 9.78 million viewers and a 3.3 on the demo – which is quite down, losing 1.4 million to last season’s premiere (11.16 million, 3.9 on the demo). On NBC things were also not too good, My Name Is Earl returning for its new season with only 6.40 million viewers and 2.7 on the demo, that’s over 2 million fans gone since last season opener, 8.66 million viewers and 3.8 on the demo, and 700 000 fans gone from last season’s finale (7.1 million, 3.0 on the demo).
* A few more returning series tonight, and boy oh boy could I be more excited about the return of The Office ?!! At this point I don’t even care it’s an hour-long episode, I confident this will just be awesome and I can’t wait!
* So.. At 8.00 on ABC it’s the season premiere of Ugly Betty
* On NBC we have the two-hour season premiere of My Name Is Earl
* And The CW has a new Smallville
* At 9.00 Grey’s Anatomy is back for its two-hour season premiere on ABC
* On NBC of course it’s the hour(long season premiere of The Office !!
* And don’t you forget The CW with a new episode of Supernatural
* At 10.00 on NBC it’s the (last?) season premiere of E.R.
Thursdays are big, no question there, and this fall won’t be any different, though we will have to wait somewhat longer to see it in action. Still, with all the goods on that one single night, we might as well start to get ready and set our DVRs now…
First, a look at what’s to come…
* At 8.00 on The CW will return, maybe for the last time, creators-less Smallville, starting on September 18th; Ugly Betty will be back on ABC starting September 25th; on NBC the comedy night is back, with My Name Is Earl debuting its new season on September 25th with a one-hour episode
* At 8.30 NBC will introduce a new sitcom on its Thursday lineup, Kath & Kim, and something tells me that won’t be no Scrubs. The Australian import will makes its debut October 9th.
* At 9.00 the boys of Supernatural will be back on The CW, starting September 18th; on ABC the medical-soap Grey’s Anatomy will be back starting September 25th with a two-hour special; on NBC the hilarious The Office will be back September 25th with one hour-long episode as well; finally on CBS we’ll have the usual CSI coming back October 9th
* At 9.30 Tina Fey’s little comedy gem is back, though we will have to wait for 30 Rock as its season premiere won’t be on before October 30th
* At 10.00 on NBC it might be the last season of E.R. that will premiere on September 25th; on ABC we will have the UK import drama Life On Mars, having its series premiere on October 9th; and on CBS it will be another new UK imported series, Eleventh Hour, premiering on the same October 9th
* At 10.30 there’s another new series, FX launches a new sitcom from South Park writer Kenny Hotz, Testees, making its debut on October 9th
Seriously, I don’t like it, except maybe for the Pushing Daisies part it just looks (and sounds) pretty awful, that song is annoying as Hell to me, and is it me or is there some ongoing annoying sound all he way through, like the ship is drowning or something…
The ceremony airs tonight at 8.00 on Fox, but it has already been shot and the winners are already known. Of course, if you haven’t heard about it yet and wishes to stay in the dark until the show, for some reason, feel free to do so – I won’t post any results before the jump.
I’ll just remind you that as far as nominations went, despite what Nielsen may say Gossip Girl was a clear winner. If according to ratings the show isn’t a hit, it surely is when it comes to what teens actually love, never mind whether or not they can relate to the story as some recently complained about…
What to know if GG was the hit the TCA nominations announced it would be, or if Nielsen was right all along ? Wait to find out tonight on Fox, or just click right now to read the read of this post…
At this point we have the fall schedule and premiere dates for all the main networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and The CW) so now the only thing that remains is for you to search for the information concerning the shows you love/are interested in.
To make things easier for everyone, I took back the complete new fall schedule compiled before premiere dates were known and updated it. You will find here the complete 2008 fall schedule day by day, with all shows on their slot with their premiere dates included. That way you can see how [insert day here] will be, try to see what you’ll watch and what you’ll have set on your DVR, and when things will be back.
And because sometimes you want to know things the other way around, know what will be on at a given time, I’ve also included the list of all premieres dates ordered by date. With all that, hopefully you should have all the information you need to get ready for next fall.
