Another Thursday night went by, let’s have another look at the numbers. As usual we move directly to the 10.00 slot, since we don’t care that much about reruns. We can just notice that moving Big Brother on Thursday was a good move for CBS, taking to win of the night in total viewers from Fox, still first on the demo.
At 10.00 Flashpoint also continues to do good for The Eye, increasing its viewership by about 1 million viewers over last week with 7.6 million viewers, winning its slot without any problem. Flashpoint also improved a little on the demo, also winning the slot. Needless to say this sounds much better than what Swingtown used to do… which might be why it’s fair to say the later doesn’t have a future on the network.

Shows: Fear Itself, Flashpoint
By fred | August 1, 2008
(S01E08) As I said last night, when I heard that Fear Itself was classified as a show “on the bubble”, as in it’s renewal for a second season is far from being a given, I was shocked. Not because I thought there would be a second season, but because it seemed obvious to me there wouldn’t be one. Two reasons : first, the show has pretty much sucked from day one and all episodes have been a disappointment; and second, the numbers haven’t been all that good, pretty much loosing viewers week after week.
And this is also why I approached this episode differently, because this time I knew it wouldn’t be good, I didn’t expect anything, I didn’t even hope that this might be, finally, the episode that makes it all worthwhile - or at least, you know, a good episode. I had no expectations, which is the only reason I wasn’t disappointed this time, because other than that it sucked…

* On Thursday night it all happens at 10.00 - on CBS we have a new episode of Flashpoint
* While NBC has another Fear Itself. I have no faith it’ll be good no more, so my surprise in reading that it is on the bubble for a second season, is that they would actually consider ordering a second season…
* And finally on USA comes a new episode of Burn Notice

Shows: Burn Notice, Fear Itself, Flashpoint

Last night was the first Thursday to see Flashpoint in place of Swingtown, and there’s no question if was a great move for CBS. Sure Fox still won the night, but that’s because they have their games while other networks have, well, reruns.
Moving on to 10.00, where last week Swingtown had 5.3 million viewers and a 1.6 on the demo. newly relocated Flashpoint performed much better, winning the slot with 6.7 million viewers and a 1.7 on the demo. Not only is that better, but Swingtown had a lead-in with 8.8 million viewers whereas this week’s rerun of CSI was only followed by 7.4 million viewers.

Shows: Fear Itself, Flashpoint

(S01E07) So last week, while the episode was all the more predictable, and didn’t always make sense, and as such could have end up being pretty boring, as I said then I ended up liking it. I’m not sure why, but something worked and I enjoyed the episode despite knowing what was going to happen all the time and never be any surprise, or scared.
This week it was all the same in that we knew what was going on, what was going to happen, and how things would end. We knew it all, again no surprises along the way, yet there was a big difference with last week’s episode : I was incredibly bored.
And really, when you look at this episode, how could you not be ?

* Thursday is a big TV night, that’s the rule, and just because it’s summer and there’s not much on does it mean this should change. Which is why tonight we have a few shows that may be worth watching, all on tonight, and all at 10.00 of course.
* On CBS it’s the newly relocated Flashpoint that makes its debut on Thursdays
* NBC has another installment of Fear Itself. Who knows, maybe this one will be good!
* And finally on USA comes a new Burn Notice

(S01E06) Last week there was none, and now we have a new episode of NBC anthology, Fear Itself. And that might just be the best thing about this this : it is an anthology, and as such you’re allowed to keep thinking and hoping that just because the last episode sucked, this one might just be completely different, in every possible way, and turn out to be one of the greatest thing you’ve seen in years, in this past week.
I’m pretty sure that’s how I approach it, before I started watching I was hoping that despite everything that happened so far, and how each episode has been a disappointment, this one would be different, this one would finally be good, enjoyable, that the curse would stop there. Sadly though, as one could have suspected, that wasn’t the case. But!

Shows: Fear Itself
In Series: Fear Itself Season 1

One big week coming up - well, considering how slow things have been lately that is - with the premiere of HBO’s miniseries Generation Kill tonight at 9.00, the return of TNT’s The Closer & Saving Grace on Monday, a new series, The Cleaner, on A&E on Tuesday, and of course the season premiere of summer hit-comedy Psych on USA !! (And also, before it, Monk)
Generation Kill is a seven-parts miniseries based on Evan Wright’s book of the same name about his experiences as an embedded reporter with the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion during the Iraq war’s first phase in 2003. Wright worked on a consultant on the show.
The Cleaner is a new series inspired by the true story of a real-life “extreme interventionist”. The show stars Benjamin Bratt (Law & Order) as William “The Cleaner” Banks, who, after hitting rock-bottom from his own addictions after the birth of his daughter, has now gathered an unconventional team with whom he helps people get away from their addictions by any means necessary.
There should be enough to please everyone, as for myself I can’t wait for Friday and a new episode of Psych ! Of course in the mean time, we got plenty to chew :

Alright, so I kinda forgot about the numbers of Thursday - oops, sorry! - but they’re out and there’s stuff to talk about. As usual, we’re skipping the whole first part of the night, on to what was happening at 10.00, including the always “fight” between CBS’ Swingtown and NBC’s Fear Itself.
Ever since their series premiere, the numbers have been bigger for Swingtown, usually called winner for the night while Fear Itself got the looser title. And I’ve also always had a somewhat different interpretation, feeling that Fear Itself was actually doing “better”, starting with the fact that it had managed to reduce its loss of viewers week after week and get stable on the demo, whereas Swingtown kept loosing and loosing viewers endlessly.
And this week it shows so even more clearly, as Fear Itself was the winner, gaining viewers since one week ago, while CBS drama kept loosing more and more viewers.

Shows: Fear Itself, Swingtown
By fred | July 4, 2008
(S01E05) Alright, so with a new Thursday came a new installment of NBC horror anthology Fear Itself, and needless to say I didn’t had any high hopes for this episode. So far I don’t think we had one episode that was actually good, and the only times I did enjoy the show, cause it did happen, was because of great acting performances, and only because of that.
This was initially presented as a potentially great thing, cause it had all those famous names when it came to writing and directing, names of people who knew the genre and could, hopefully, deliver some goods. Sadly though, this is exactly where the show has been lacking all along, going for the most common stories, clichéd everything, and always trying to get that last-minute twist that rendered the whole thing even more stupid and less credible.
So, yeah, kinda hard to get excited about a new episode now…
