Fox’s plans for 2009 have now made public, and there are two things that are really worth nothing, two changes that took place compared to the original plans the Network had, two changes actually quite linked to each other : Originally, Bones was set to move on Fridays.
No really, it was, those idiots at Fox keep moving it around and treat the show like it wasn’t the little awesome thing it is, pulling 10 million viewers each week. And maybe that’s why they change their minds, when realizing that even without House near-by, the show was still a hit. That’s for the good news, now the bad news comes from who’s taking over that infamous death slot.
No other than Joss Whedon’s latest sci-fi creation, Dollhouse, is set to air on Fridays, premiering Friday, January 13th. No really. I’ll give you a minute to scream away as those horrible flashbacks and memories of Firefly come to mind…
There’s been lots of talks and rumors about genius Joss Whedon’s new series, Dollhouse, which Whedon himself answered so that everyone could stop spreading it for no reasons. And now, instead of that, let’s all focus on the goods as a new trailer has just been released.
Now if you’re already existed about the show, starring Eliza Dushku, this will surely get you even more excited about it ! I know it worked for me, and I just can’t wait for the show to premiere. No official dates have been set yet, but it can’t be soon enough!
One of the most exciting new series of the new season won’t premiere until 2009, and is no other than genius Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse. Of course, while there’s obviously excitement at the idea of a new TV series by Whedon, as well as a reunion with Eliza Dushku, one can’t help but remember the last time he tried to do a sci-fi show for Fox….
When it was announced the original pilot wouldn’t air first, people had terrible Firefly-flashbacks. Everyone tried to remain calm and positive about everything, but then recently the craziest rumors started to spread as production was shut down and scripts being rewritten again… Was the studio messing with the show again ? Had Fox changed since last time, or were the execs already thinking of canceling the show months before the first episode even airs ??
Taking a moment away from the show, master Joss Whedon took a moment to address the fans…
* Jesus Christ, doesn’t anyone at NBC have a brain ?
Of sure, for some reason some people are indeed watching the new Knight Rider on Wednesdays, but my guess is they do because it sucks so much it becomes “funny”, and they all are curious as to how low NBC can sink… And here’s your answer : the Peacock gave a back-nine order for the show, bringing Knight rider to a full 22-episode season !
That’s right, this piece of crap which is probably the worst of all new series NBC brought up this season has been picked up, meanwhile a truly brilliant series like Life continues to struggle on Friday nights, with no support, no promotion, and network messing up the show… God I hate NBC.
Funny thing: when I learned that two Fox series that wouldn’t be on the air until 2009 were shutting down production, I did not react the same to that news at all.
It looks like it’s pretty much the same thing going on in either case : either show won’t be on the air for months, each were ahead of production and thus had the luxury of being able to shut down production, in both case the request came from the creative minds behind the show who asked more time to work on scripts, and given said circumstances the network was happy to oblige.
And yet, to me, for one show it felt like this could be a good thing, while for the other one I couldn’t help but taking it as a bad sign of things to come… It might be me, and the way I feel for both series, but in all honesty I think there is, actually, somewhat of a huge difference in the two situations the shows are in.
Once upon a time, pilot episodes were something special. Not just because they were done before the series got picked up (if it ever got that far), or because networks could “give their input” about the episode and have it retooled before it actually made it to the air, not because that one episode could benefit from a budget much bigger than any of the following episodes, no there was another thing put pilot episodes aside from any other episodes : they were the first ones.
The first episode ever made for a given series, and as such they are usually quite packed as they try to introduce to viewers everything : what the show is, what it will be like, who the (main) characters are, etc It’s a difficult task to write & produced a pilot, it’s something different than for any other episodes that comes after, but that’s what you have to do when creating a new series.
Apparently though, networks do not have to air them first.
Every network is trying to get some buzz about their shows and people talk about what’s on their fall schedule, and here’s the latest one from Fox, and I gotta say I like it! I don’t know, I guess I now really like what’s coming out of this network I once hated more than any other…
Anyhow, latest in their “It’s so…” campaign, they had the cast of all their hit shows do some pretty cool photo shoot, So Fresh, and after the pictures here’s a nice little video of the shooting :
Latest in the “It’s so…” promo campaign from Fox, stars from their hit shows all got to be part of a very nice photo shoot. Here’s the cast of Dollhouse :
But Whedon has been insisting about how this is a completely different situation, how the network didn’t even want him to shot another pilot, but he did decided to do so himself, and maybe he’s just trying to make things look better, maybe he just went there so that the network wouldn’t ask him to and try to burry the original pilot like they did with Firefly, or maybe all is well and everything will work out for the best.
Going back there, here’s what he recently declared : “The fact is, there are echoes of what happened before, so some people are worried. My response to that is, first of all, thanks, I’m glad you care. And also, you can be worried. The show could have all the support in the world from Fox and still not go. There’s no guarantees in this business. The fact is, their support hasn’t wavered, but they did sort of view what I’d done as a little bit different from what I’d sold.
Joss Whedon’s new (sci-fi) series, Dollhouse, is scheduled to grace our screens in 2009 on Fox. The pilot episode has already been shot, but now they have to shot another one…
Now before you panic and get ready to go kill everyone at Fox in a moment of uncontrollable rage due to Firefly-flashbacks, when Fox trashed in the worst possible way (one of) the greatest sci-fi shows ever, let’s calm down and listen to the man. After having said he’d never go back to Fox, Whedon did “change his mind”. Or not really, since as he’s been saying over time now, it’s a completely new team, different people working at Fox now, people who actually understand him and what he wants to do with the show. Not those morons from back in the days we all hate, still.
And the idea of shooting a new pilot actually came from Sir Joss Whedon himself, as he explains…
