It’s a brand new day and the sun is high, all the birds are singing and if you wonder why… it’s because the thing we’ve all been waiting for ever since mid-July and that week during the summer, when Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day melted out hearts to the songs of the Whedon clan, it is there!
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is a wonderful masterpiece with humor, singing and emotions like only Joss Whedon could made come true, and if you’re anything like me it’s been months now that you kept re-watched and singing along this wonderful three-act Internet musical delight, waiting to get your hands on the DVD.
Well, the time is near : the DVD with as promised “Commentary! The Musical”, applicants for The Evil League Of Evil and more surprises will be out December 19th, but you can already pre-order it on Amazon for $14.99 only!
It’s finally here (well, almost) and if there’s one perfect gift to be made this year, it’s without a doubt this little DVD. Don’t waste any time and go pre-order yours right now, otherwise it’ll be too late!
As is often the case with Joss Whedon, just because a TV series, or a sing-along blog, is over, doesn’t mean things end here. And this is how Dr. Horrible is making its introduction into the world of comics, of webcomics that is, with a first story called Captain Hammer: Be Like Me! Nemesis of Dr. Horrible
The title says it all, it was written Dr. Horrible co-writer Zack Whedon, and it’s as good as one might expect it to be. So don’t waste any more time and go read it right now for free!
And in other somewhat Dr. Horrible news, the always adorable Felicia Day (Dr. Horrible’s Penny) was recently at the Penny Arcade Expo, and when she wasn’t signing more DVDs of The Guild that her arm could handle, she was receiving mail, Bad Horse style - and that’s just awesome :
Hilarious, great, I just freaking love it! Seriously, how awesome is that?? Gotta play it again… And speaking of those fantastic Horrible songs we all love, it has been announced that the soundtrack would be officially available on iTunes September 2nd, which happens to be today!
Ever heard of the greatest musical of all time ? Well, I’m not really sure that’s how people refer to Joss Whedon’s Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, but that sure might be the case. That little thing is just perfect, so much that when it’s been revealed at Comic Con that there would be another part coming, though nothing would be said about it so far, I wasn’t sure I liked that idea.
The way it ended was about perfect, in a pure Whedon style, I loved it (despite the tragic turn) and I feel it was not only the way it was supposed to go, the only way it should have gone, but also that it was a perfect ending after which nothing should come. I’m not really sure adding another act wouldn’t “lower” the power of what we have now…
More than we’d like to, NBC screw things up pretty badly, or worse. But occasionally they do something right, and when it happens it should be noted. If, like me or so many people out there, you didn’t get a chance to go to Comic Con, you might be frustrated to read about all the great things missed. Sure, there are great reports about the different panels, but nothing is like being there.
But what about videos of the panel ? It’s not the same, but you get it all, audio and video, so it’s he next best thing. And NBC put online quite a few panels available for free and without any restrictions, so whether or not you’re in the US feel free to enjoy the panels of The Office, Chuck, Heroes, Kings or Knight Rider !
It’s a pretty easy thing to do, to have a crush of Felicia Day. It really doesn’t take much, for example watch Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and you’re there.
And speaking of which, if you were wondering about how she got the part of Penny in Joss Whedon’s musical, wonder no more : while at ComicCon promoting Dr Horrible of course of her own online show, The Guild, Felicia talk to Mahalo Daily about just that, how it was to work with Joss and Neil Patrick Harris, or her upcoming appearance in an episode of hit-drama House.
No spoilers of any kind, but a very nice interview, and Felicia cute as always, of course.
He was the start of Joss Whedon amazing musical Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, he’s on the big screen in the latest Harold & Kumar, he’s singing some more as a guest on Sesame Street (here’s a video of him as the Shoe Fairy), he’s even been seen recently in a new Old Spice commercial, and of course he’s the awesome Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother !
On top of that he received a second Emmy nomination for his work on CBS’ sitcom, and yesterday he answered questions for washingtonpost.com readers. Great read, highly recommended, transcript follow :
I’m not sure teaming up with Hulu might have been the best idea ever. We know there were some glitch at first and international viewers weren’t allowed to watch the first act, which rightfully pissed a few people, starting with me. And now, apparently there might have been some lag in Hulu’s stats and the reported numbers might not be the final numbers, it’s all subject to change, pretty much like with Nielsen : feels like they’re guessing.
Anyways, the show was taken down Sunday night after a one-week run, and here are the numbers so far for Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog :
Of course, those numbers would be higher if the server hadn’t crashed for quite a while when the demand was too high, and they don’t include iTunes downloads or people who watched the show after getting the video from friends, etc And Dr Horrible had been topping the iTunes downloads ever since it premiered, and the three “Top TV Shows” on iTunes right now are still no other than the three acts of Dr Horrible!
That’s it, the third and final act of Joss Whedon’s awesome Internet musical is live, you can watch all the three parts of the show right now, and for less than 48 hours. Sunday at midnight, it will all go away, so be sure to check it out asap.
Will Dr. Horrible show the world, starting with Bad Horse, that his PhD in horribleness makes him a natural member of the Evil League Of Evil ? Will Penny be able to save the homeless shelter ? Will Captain Hammer be defeated by his arc-nemesis ? Will we ever find out why Dr Horrible’s blog is so moist ? Do you like frozen yogurt ?
For answers to all of those questions, or most of them, head on to DrHorrible.com right now and watch Act III of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog !
Little more talk about it, including some spoilers if you haven’t yet watch all thee acts (but what the Hell are you still waiting for!?), after the jump.
Yes, we’re already July 17 and as a direct result we get to see Part II of Joss Whedon’s genius Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog !!
And after the messy troubles that got in the way for the first part (unavailable to non-US resident at first, then technical difficulties due to massive demand…) now things should be running pretty smoothly. I just went and go my fix, and the only one thing I could possibly sad about this thing so far that wouldn’t be enchanting, is that it’s way too damn short!
Just like after the first act, you feel like it’s only been on for a few seconds when it’s in fact close to 15 minutes later, and it’s over already. And it’s heartbreaking, because this web-musical or whatever you want to call it is simply genius !!
Sure, Neil Patrick Harris is awesome, we all knew that, and he’s proving it without a doubt once again here, but I think everyone is perfect : NPH is the perfect anti-hero, a villain you root for, Felicia Day looks as cute as she needs to, she feels helpless and fragile, while Nathan Fillion is a pitch-perfect egotistical, self-involved comic-book super-hero, and the whole thing just make you feel so good. Not to forget the funny, cause it’s freaking hilarious!
