Fox: More Fringe And Less Terminator ??

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | October 2, 2008

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles* The first officially canceled new series of the season was Fox’s Do Not Disturb after only 3 episodes made it to the air. Sounds very much like Fox, but to be fair the show was horrible and should have never aired to being with.

* Meanwhile, while it won’t be the first official pick-up for a new series (The CW already picked up 90210 for a full 22-episode order), Fox announced the back-nine pick up for J.J. Abrams’ latest creation, Fringe, bringing it to a full 22-episode season order. While maybe not the mega-hit some thought it would be, the show remains one of the strongest new series of the fall so far, and performs well on the beloved 18-49 demo — After four episodes, Fringe averaged 10.5 million viewers and 4.2 on the demo.

Do Not Disturb is out !

Do Not DisturbShocking news: Fox insists that their latest sitcom Do Not Disturb has not officially became the first new series of the season to get axed. No, the show even own producers acknowledged was bad television has still not been officially canceled yet, its fate it still undetermined - officially.

But that’s only officially, because next Wednesday it won’t on the air, after only three episodes (an that’s three more than there should have been…) the show has been replaced with reruns of Til Death, the other sitcom that isn’t doing any good. On Wednesday Do Not Disturb had 3.5 million vs 4.6 million viewers for Til Death.

But Til Death can’t seem to die, and Fox might have already found its next companion : a single-camera office comedy is in the work, from scribes Moses Port and David Guarascio (Aliens In America). The project revolves around a twentysomething man, high on some mood enhancer, working at a pharmaceutical company where, among other things, he must deal with his high-powered female boss.

So, is that the future first cancellation of next season ? Too soon ?

Wednesday’s Numbers [09.24.2008]

NumbersNote that due to President Bush’s 15-minute address to the nation at 9.00 all individual program results are approximate and subject to change.

Good night for CBS last night, winner both in total viewers (12.48 million) and on the demo (3.5), thanks to the return of their cop-drama Criminal Minds and CSI: New-York, which both did very well, the later being the most-watched program of the night on the demo, the former being a very close second.

At 8.00 Bones was pretty stable (9.61 million viewers, 3.1 on the demo), barely loosing viewers compared to last week despite being opposed to Dancing With The Stars (15.57 million viewers). Meanwhile on NBC was the series premiere of Knight Rider, and the curiosity effect isn’t really there anymore after that bad movie back in February (which had 12.7 million viewers at the time), so many people didn’t bother, rightly so. Only 7.30 million viewers for a series premiere is a pretty bad result, and the 2.4 on the demo isn’t any more encouraging.

Tonight On TV

* Things are calming down a notch this Wednesday, which I’m sure might allow some to make room on their DVR… or still fill them some more.

* At 8.00 of course all eyes are on Fox for a new episode of the underrated Bones

* And there’s some competition now, first on NBC with the series premiere of Knight Rider

* On CBS it’s the new comedy night with first the season premiere of New Adventures Of Old Christine

* Followed at 8.30 by the series premiere on Gary Unmarried. I’m curious, I’ll (probably) watch, but I fear it’s bad…

* At 9.00 on CBS we will finally found out whose car it was that blew up, in the season premiere of Criminal Minds

* While on Fox there’s a new Til Death

* Followed at 9.30 by a new Do Not Disturb - because apparently the fact that it’s bad television (or that nobody watches) isn’t enough to pull the plug…

* At 10.00 CBS has the season premiere of CSI: New York

* On NBC its the season premiere of Lipstick Jungle

* And FX has a new episode of Sons Of Anarchy

Do Not Disturb producers apologize for creating a very bad show…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | September 24, 2008

Do Not DisturbFox new sitcom, Do Not Disturb, hasn’t really been praised by anyone. Of course, there’s a very good reason for that, the first episode sucked, plain & simple.

But then the producers are doing something quite unusual, they are actually admitting it was bad television, and apologizing for it.

According to Variety, they send a letter to a handful of TV critics, admitting that their first episode wasn’t good. It sounds like a surprising thing, but here’s where things get actually even worse : they blame the whole mess on Fox, as they decided not to air the original pilot first, but another episode.

Wednesday’s Numbers [09.17.2008]

NumbersLast night there wasn’t much on, and as far as I’m concerned it was down to one single show : Bones. As good as the show may be and do, it wasn’t enough to keep Fox on the first place last night, because with a two-hour block of America’s Got Talent NBC won the night, both in viewers and on the demo.

Still, Bones managed to gain 800 000 viewers from last week, with 9.7 million viewers, and performed quite well on the demo winning the slot with a 3.2 Everything’s fine for the little under-rated Fox show. The same can’t be said for either Til Death, loosing 1.3 million viewers from last week down to 5.1 million, and falling dramatically on the demo to 1.9 (from lead-in’s 3.2!)

NumbersStill high on Olympic fewer, NBC keeps winning night after night, and last night they even took lead on the demo from Fox. NBC averaged 10.1 million viewers overnight, while Fox, coming second, was down at 7.3 million viewers. On the demo things were tighter, with a 2.6 for NBC and 2.5 for Box. Why didn’t Fox manage to win the demo ? Blame their new “sitcom”…

Before that, at 8.00 was a new episode of Bones, which did loose some viewers since last week, but with 8.9 million viewers and a 2.9 on the demo it’s nothing to worry about, especially since Bones won its slot on the demo. After that however, things weren’t as good for Fox…

Do Not Disturb: Work Sex [series premiere]

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | September 10, 2008

Do Not Disturb(S01E01) Some time ago I got to watch a screener of what was going to be the pilot of this new “sitcom”. Since then, Fox decided to use another episode to debut the show, because they thought, rightly so, that the original one wasn’t very good.

Now the problem is, you could clearly tell it wasn’t the episode that was flawed, it was the show itself. Now that I’ve seen the new pilot, which will air tonight at 10.30 on Fox, I can only confirm that statement : it was not, it is not, the episode that sucks, but the show.
