Sunday was a pretty good night for Showtime, as both season finales of Dexter and Californication scored new highs.
The last episode of the third season of Dexter was followed by 1.5 million viewers in its first airing at 9.00, making it the network’s most-watched telecast since 2004. The episode was up 7% compared to last season’s finale (1.4 million) and 25% over the first season finale (1.2 million). The rerun at 11.00 added 491 000 viewers for the episode. This season the show averaged 1.1 million viewers on its initial run.
Meanwhile Californication was also doing well, ending its second season with 615 000 viewers, a season high. The rerun at 10.30 also drew 322 000 viewers.
Both series have already been renewed — Showtime ordered two more seasons of Dexter already, as well as a third season of Californication.

Each year the International Press Academy has its own awards, as everybody else, and winners of the 2008 Satellite Awards have been announced this Sunday.
The thing to notice this year isn’t that Showtime is doing pretty well, winner of the best drama with Dexter and best comedy or musical with State Of The Union, although that’s not nothing, but that the other winners are found on AMC (Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad) or HBO (Anna Paquin, True Blood)… but not the main networks. Last year Pushing Daisies (ABC), Grey’s Anatomy (ABC) et Ugly Betty (ABC) had won, and this year while ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC all had at least one nominations, they all got nothing.

The year is slowly coming to an end, and with it television is like a tree losing its leaves, only it’s our beloved TV shows that are disappearing, leaving our screens empty. It’s always a sad but required period of time when there simply isn’t as much stuff on TV as there used to be, but just to make things more fun (or something like that) not every show airs up to the same date/week and leaves at the same time.
If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering which shows are already gone for this year, and when are the others going to leave us, and this is why I went on to collect such information about quite a few shows and put it all in one place. Now, you can have a quick look at the updated list below, and see if your favorite show has some episodes left for 2008, and if so how many and when they will air.

I usually love to trash the Emmys because whether you look at the winners of even the nominations, you just wonder if those people even watch TV. And it used to be that at least the Golden Globes got things a little better, right? Because then clearly this has changed, they got it all wrong, it’s almost insulting actually.
Unlike the Emmys, The Globes cover the calendar year, not the TV season, meaning that it includes the beginning of the year when there was not much TV going on, writers’ strike and all. But there was at least one thing on the air, and that thing was simply the best show of one of the greatest TV show, I of course am talking about Lost.

* At 8.00 there’s a new Brotherhood on Showtime
* While on TNT there’s the third installment of TV-movie The Librarian: Curse Of The Judas Chalice – or when Carter plays Indy. Truth be told, I never watched the first ones, I never even heard of them!
* And at 8.30 still a fresh episode of The Simpsons on Fox
* At 9.00 on ABC there’s a new Desperate Housewives
* And Showtime has a new episode of Dexter
* At 10.00 a new Brothers & Sisters is on ABC
* On Showtime we have a new episode of Californication
* While on TNT there’s the series premiere of Leverage – a show about a team of thieves stealing the rich bad guys for the poor. I saw a screener of the pilot today, and I have to say I was less than impressed. It’s more than unoriginal, it just feels predictably lazy. It’s not that it’s bad, but you feel like you’ve already seen it. Everything : the characters, their relationships, the bad guys, the plot, it’s all predictable and there’s never any surprises.

* Of course, tonight is all about Jack Bauer. It’s not before January 11th that his new day will begin, but it’s been way too long since we last heard of him, so tonight he’s finally back will a little prelude in a two-hour TV movie. Let’s hope things will be better than last season… for us that is, of course.
