The Good, The Bad And The Ugly… This Season For Fox

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | June 18, 2008

Fox(This week we look back at how each of the main networks handled things this past season, as well as looking at how things are looking up for the coming one. Agree ? Disagree ? Share your thoughts and grade networks in the comments below…)

The Good

Fox wasn’t stupid enough to air only the first quarter of an unfinished season of 24, but decided not to air it until they could really/fully air it. Probably pushed by the strike, but they have also given their chances to new series like New Amsterdam or Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and of course they renewed the later, because we all want more Glaubot!

Fox Schedule for 2009

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 15, 2008

The new schedule for Fox is now official, and there’s not much to say : canceling everything new but Terminator, their additions are for the most part the two most-awaited (sci-fi) series of the season, JJ Abrams’ Fringe, and Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse - the later being reserved for mid-season.

Being Fox, they don’t really care about the shows or giving an opportunity for viewers to easily remember when they are or create some nice pairs, shows keep moving all over the place between fall and winter schedule, and I’m not sure there’s really any logic there.

Full schedule, recap and reactions after the jump!

More Cancellation, Renewals, Pickup News

Eliza DushkuThe upfronts are coming, as of course lots and lots of news floating in about what shows will be picked up, renewed or canceled. More news from almost every network coming in…

ABC

We know Eli Stone will be renewed for a second season, while Women’s Murder Club is gone. It also seems that, for some unexplainable reason, Miss/Guided is likely to be renewed for a second season. Don’t ask me, I have no idea.

Again, thanks to creator David E. Kelley, fans of Boston Legal will have another season. But the initial order is only for 13 episodes, and it might not go further than that; also, it will be with a significantly scaled down cast, and probably the last season.

Friday’s Numbers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | April 20, 2008

Bad Friday for ABC, beaten by The CW both in total viewers and on the demo. There was pretty much nothing on, so while NBC won there’s nothing to be proud of… The most watched program of the night had only 7.2 million viewers, and the two hours of Dateline shared the lead on the demo with Numb3rs, all with a 1.9

At 8.00 a rerun of Ghost Whisperer won the slot, while the rerun of Desperate Housewives barely had 3 million of viewers, and a very low 0.8 on the demo. One hour later on Fox was the series finale of Canterbury’s Law, and with 4.7 million viewers and 1.0 on the demo, there’s no doubt it was indeed a series finale. It did better than Duel on ABC or even Friday Night Smackdown! on The CW, but still. And, Friday Night Smackdown! was stronger on the demo.

Tonight On TV

* So, yeah, this is Friday and there’s nothing on. Shocking.

* Well, almost nothing. At 9.00 on Fox there’s the season (and, let’s face it, series) finale of Canterbury’s Law

* That’s it.

Friday’s Numbers

Another slow Friday where no program could reach 10 million viewers, and the mast-watched network couldn’t even average 9 million viewers. The only things that might be worth noting is that The CW performed better on the demo than Fox, thanks to their always good performer, and not renewed, Friday Night Smackdown!

At 8.00 Ghost Whisperer was back and lost 600 000 viewers since last week, but don’t let that fool you : it was the best performing program of the night on the demo !

Tonight On TV

* Just another now-typical Friday night…

* It starts at 8.00 on CBS with a new Ghost Whisperer

* Moves on to Fox for another Canterbury’s Law. Impressive, I’d thought it had been canceled by now…

* And of course at 10.00, back on CBS, there’s a new Numb3rs

Friday’s Numbers

CBS had two shows returning on Friday, and as such had a little boost, though not a big one. For a couple of weeks CBS had Basketball on Friday night, and this Friday with the return of Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs got The Eye about the same (or a little below) on the demo, and less than one million more viewers. Over the entire night, not one program could reach 10 million viewers.

At 8.00 the ghosts were back, and the sexiest Ghost Whisperer only returned with 9.3 million viewers. It’s not really bad, but it’s not really good either.

Tonight On TV: Ghost Whisperer, Canterbury’s Law, Numb3rs

* Not much on, but a lot more than we’re used to on Fridays with the return of a couple of CBS dramas!

* It starts at 8.00 with the return of Jennifer Love Hewitt in a new episode of Ghost Whisperer on CBS

* At 9.00 comes a new episode of Canterbury’s Law, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was also the last one to make it to the air. Actually, I’d be surprise Fox let it on any longer than it already has, given how poorly it’s been doing ever since its pilot!

* Finally at 10.00 CBS welcomes their favorite mathematician on a new Numb3rs

Canterbury’s Law: What Goes Around…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | March 30, 2008

Canterbury’s Law(S01E03) I was clearly not impressed with the two first episodes of this new series, and obviously I wasn’t alone given the poor ratings it has received, so much that Fox didn’t wait and already moved it to this dead Friday. If it’s a sign of anything, it is that they intend to cancel the show very soon.

Still, for some reason I decided to tune in one last time and see whether or not this show could become something better, before Friday starts getting a little better as soon as next week, when a couple of shows will be back on CBS. So over the week-end I sat down and watched the latest episode in date of Julianna Margulies’ latest show…
