(This week we look back at how each of the main networks handled things this past season, as well as looking at how things are looking up for the coming one. Agree ? Disagree ? Share your thoughts and grade networks in the comments below…)
The Good
… I’m looking … if you have anything, let me know … Alright, that’s unfair. After all, The Big Bang Theory was a very nice surprise this season, so not only bringing it on but giving it a real chance and – of course – renewing it for a second season was probably CBS’ highlight this season.

The new schedule for CBS is now official, and they are adding five new series – three dramas and two comedies. The most noticeable addition to the schedule might be the long-rumored creation of another night of comedy, as President Nina Tassler said : “We’ve been looking to expand our comedy lineup, and we now have the depth and development to make the move. Monday is already television’s signature night for comedy and we think we can make the case that CBS is the signature network for comedy overall.”
Yeah, right, CBS wants to be the signature network for comedy overall, and they should know their facts : when it comes to comedy, they were able to take the awesome gem that is How I Met Your Mother and bring it down not once but twice by the addition of Britney Spears (who they might even have to come back again!). Seriously, if you have to think about it more than one second when it comes to renewing this show, then you obviously don’t know nothing about comedy, or ones that are actually funny that is. (rant over.)
Full schedule, recap and reactions after the jump!

Many shows already have been renewed for a new season, and yet probably as many are still waiting for an official statement about their future. Of course, as is always the case in such times, fans are anxious and worry for their favorite shows, especially the ones the network doesn’t seem to like so much, or the ones not doing that great in the ratings, despite being really great shows.
Recently Michael Ausiello compiled a list of shows currently hanging in the balance, giving for each of the their “Odds of Survival” rating, somewhere from 0 (it’s dead) to 10 (it will be back). Here’s that list, plus a few more comments by yours truly…

Now that the strike is over, lots of shows are (finally) getting canceled, more or less officially, on every network.
* I’ll start with one that actually really pleases me : CBS has canceled Cane. The show is done, and I’m happy about this because it could be good news for Lost ! I’m happy not because I thought the show wasn’t good, even though that’s true, but because I sure hope that now Nestor Carbonell can find its way back to Lost, because we need to find out more about the never-aging Richard Alpert !
* Still no official word yet from NBC, but according to different sources from Michael Ausiello the Peacock has finally decided to put crappy Bionic Woman to rest.

Seriously, WTF!??
CBS announced that it is already renewing 11 series for a new season, 9 dramas and 2 comedies. There’s some old ones you knew would be renewed, and one freshman that got a second season, but more importantly is that there is some huge problem with that list : some series aren’t on there, like no other that the great sitcom How I Met Your Mother !!
No, it does NOT mean it’s been canceled, just that it hasn’t yet been renewed, but still, WTF!? It’s one of the best sitcoms out there, it’s great, it’s funny, it’s just awesome, and there’s no question that it has to come back for more !
List of renewed series below.

Let’s start this week with an update of our famous grid of how the strike affects your favorite series. As you’ll see, many series are now completely MIA, and quite a lot only have very few episodes before leaving us as well… Let’s hope that strike gets resolved soon, because even if it does we’re still in for weeks of nothing!
So again you will have a first chart with as many series as I could get info about, and for each of them how many episodes already aired, how many should be done and waiting in the can (written & produced), and then what we all care about, how many are left – as of today, 01/28/08. I’ve also added how many episodes had been ordered.

Last night were hold the 34th Annual People Choice Awards, sort of. Because with the strike, and promises of picketing and, therefore, not one single nominee showing up (except maybe Jay Leno…) it’s quite a different kind of show that took place on CBS.
There was no real event, no red carpet, no audience, no celebrities, pretty much no show. What you had was Queen Latifah realizing she got screwed big time as this is no where near what she was offered/agreed to do, and a awful lot of clips from the past years, when things were fun, as well as pre-taped acceptance speeches for winners. Sounds like fun ? No ? Guess what ? Well, I didn’t really bother, but I’m sure it wasn’t !
Anyways, the list of winners are right below, in bold, while my original votes are in italic.

As the year 2007 goes, everyone is making their list of best and worst of the year. Given how I don’t really like such list, especially because it means going over two half-seasons of TV with series we haven’t seen in quite a while (Lost) and new ones we’re crazy about (Life), it’s just weird. That, plus I didn’t prepare anything throughout the year and didn’t feel like going over it all, yes I’m lazy.
Anyways, that’s not the point. The point is, I did not do a best/worst of list, instead I decided to simply go over all the new series of the season, all those I actually watched that is, to see how things went down.

Even though CBS had a little more viewers, the winner of the night – sadly – is NBC, coming second with 10.2 million viewers (vs 10.3 for CBS) and first on the 18-49 demo with 3.9 And it is very sad, because NBC only nothing but crap on (Clash Of The Choirs, Biggest Loser), and exactly the kind of crap that any TVoholic, addict, or just regular fan should not be watching !
At 8.00 the repeat of NCIS did much better than the competition, with 13.1 million viewers and 2.8 on the 18-49 demo. Next was NBC, with 7.7 million viewers. Oh yeah, after announcing and promoting a fresh episode of NCIS, CBS went with a repeat in the end.
