(This week we look back at how each of the main networks handled things this past season, as well as looking at how things are looking up for the coming one. Agree ? Disagree ? Share your thoughts and grade networks in the comments below…)
The Good
This season ABC showed to be understanding of the situation, and decided to give a real chance to new series that had proven to be of quality, renewing Pushing Daisies, of course, but also Eli Stone or Dirty Sexy Money. And while I have mixed feelings over their treatment of Lost, overall it played out very nicely, offering us the best season to date and a fantastic 3-hour season finale ! Way to go.

The new schedule for ABC is now official, and truth be told it looks very much like the old one, that that’s by design. As McPherson said, “We’re returning our dominant core group of shows from last fall. The few openings we had we’ve filled with the kind of quality programming viewers have come to expect from ABC, and we have a very strong bench.”
Full schedule, recap and reactions after the jump!

Many shows already have been renewed for a new season, and yet probably as many are still waiting for an official statement about their future. Of course, as is always the case in such times, fans are anxious and worry for their favorite shows, especially the ones the network doesn’t seem to like so much, or the ones not doing that great in the ratings, despite being really great shows.
Recently Michael Ausiello compiled a list of shows currently hanging in the balance, giving for each of the their “Odds of Survival” rating, somewhere from 0 (it’s dead) to 10 (it will be back). Here’s that list, plus a few more comments by yours truly…

Now that the strike is (almost) officially over, now that everyone will be back to work this Wednesday, it’s time to make a first update of the list I compiled a few days ago already to answer the questions we are all facing now :
Will our favorite shows be back this season ? How many more episodes will we get ? When do we get them ? What’s the smoke monster ?
I won’t repeat what I said last time about what shows might be back soon (the big hits : House, Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, etc) and which are likely not to return this season (the new ones : Life, Chuck, Dirty Sexy Money, etc) and let’s start the updated list right now !
UPDATED on Tuesday, February 12.

As always, critics are all voted for the to find out which were the best series and which were the worst of 2007. The Winter Critics Poll 2007 is over, and results are in.
Votes were tabulated using a weighted scale. Critics submitted 10 shows in the best series category, the top choice receiving 10 points, the second choice 9 points and so on down to the last (10th) choice, receiving 1 point.
In the worst series category, they only submitted five shows, the top (worst) choice descending from 5 points, the next from 4 points, and so on till the last one, descending from one point.
Selected shows were televised between July and December 2007.

Wow, weird, Fox didn’t win lats night. What happened ?
Anyways, at 8.00 and for its season finale Ugly Betty didn’t do well, with a season low of 8.9 million viewers. Then came the first part of the “sandwich” NBC had cooked up for you. Turns out that many fans of good (scripted) television might have simply moved on to other things, because along with Ugly Betty, NBC show hit a season low as well (6.9 million).

Not much on TV once more, and results of the strike are that the most watched program of the night was a rerun (CSI, 14.2 million).
At 8.00 Ugly Betty didn’t do really well, pulling 9.5 million viewers. That was 2 million less than the winner of the slot, Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?, but was enough to beat every other networks. Granted, they had nothing fresh to offer, as CBS, NBC and The CW were all airing reruns.

Shows: Big Shots, E.R., Ugly Betty, Without A Trace
By fred | January 11, 2008
Well, last night was probably was one of last time a competitive Thursday looked that good, because many shows won’t be coming back before the strike is over. And networks can lie and pretend all they want, no reality crap will do as good as CSI or Grey’s Anatomy.
But an hour before those two came, Ugly Betty was also back and did quite good, with numbers it hadn’t done recently (9.9 million, 3.2) The comedy night of NBC, or what’s left of it, got quite mixed result. While My Name Is Earl did good, with 7.7 million viewers and a 3.7 on the 18-49 demo, lead-out 30 Rock didn’t perform as good I’m sad to say; loosing 1.7 million viewers.
