(S03E22) Now this is how to make a good season finale. On most shows, by season end something huge must be happening, whether good or bad it must be huge and possibly end on a cliffhanger, to urge viewers to come back next season. Now on a show such as 30 Rock where the TV clichés are usually mocked or turned into parodies, I think we were right to expect something a little different.
Another thing you often see during season finale, is guests. Of course, 30 Rock already went down that road at the beginning of the season, where every single episode was welcoming a new guest star week after week, from Oprah to Steve Martin to Jenifer Aniston, and since while some of those episodes were a lot of fun many have “complained” that we didn’t get to see the actual cast of the show, and the writers, enough, of course they did what they did.

(S03E21) Sometimes it feels that the problem of this show is that they have created all those characters in the beginning, and now they’re stuck with them even though they don’t really know how to use them. Either that, of they don’t realize that what they’re doing right now with them simply isn’t really working. Tracy and Jenna are som every unique and “special” characters, there’s no question there, and I’m sure they can be part of great plots that are also lots of fun.
Unfortunately, more often than none they are trapped with awful plot lines that go nowhere and fail to deliver any laughs. This is probably true anytime they’re put together, which luckily wasn’t the case here. Still, Jenna is just re-doing what she’s done before, being her self-centered annoying self, and if they can’t find anything else/better for her to do, maybe they should just get ride of her or something…

(S03E20) It is undeniable, there’s a crazy dimension on this show, mostly in the form of Tracy & Jenna but it’s not limited to those two characters, every single one of them can be, at one point in time and any sort of reason, transported into a different world where things don’t really go the way they usually do outside in the real world. It’s not a complaint, I love it when the show turns into some kind of zombie freak show…
But if the situations can get out of hands or, again, when it comes to Tracy and Jenna we can accept behaviors that would be otherwise not believable for a second, there’s a limit to things we can allow, there are rules not to be broken. One of them being that all characters must remain true to themselves, they can’t go on and act in ways we would never believe them to be able to.

(S03E19) Now this is what I’m talking about. Sure, I’ve said many times that I wasn’t much of a fan of when we venture into the personal lives of Jack and/or Liz, and liked better when it stayed on the show within the show. But my point has always been, it needs to be happening at 30 rock, be about the show and, more importantly, the people behind it, the people who made it.
And while this episode was for the most part about the personal lives and relationship of some of the main characters, the one thing that made it work (to me) is that it was pretty much entirely taking place at NBC, and with the people of the show. I couldn’t help but feel like this episode was closer to what the show used to be back in the its season(s), and I loved it for that!

(S03E18) I’ve often said that I think the show is best when it’s all about the show within the show and what happens at NBC, rather than the love lives of either Jack and/or Liz. This week had Liz is a story of her own that wasn’t either, but still managed to be funny. What was a letdown for me, was that it was also a perfect excuse to focus more of the other people involved on the show, but they didn’t go to there.
I don’t mean Jenna or Tracy, but those we barley get to see these days, like the writers or the always lovely Cerie. Alas, while the occasion was there, they didn’t they do anything with it, and if we saw them briefly, it was only that, brief. Too bad, because I’d have taken anything involving those guys over that stupid Kenneth plot which seemed to come out of nowhere and went nowhere.
