What’s on tonight — This is the week!

By fred | September 23, 2007

People, I hope you got yourself ready, because this is the week. Oh sure, a few series have already returned or premiered, but they’re still exceptions. One week for now, the situation will be reserved, and the ones still not on the air, will be exceptions.

And we start off this Sunday with no new series, but a few of great returns…

* At 8.00pm on Fox, we start we fun with The Simpsons

* At 9.00pm, things get more complicate as we have two shows at the same time. On one side, let’s call it Fox, the Griffins are back with a season premiere of Family Guy special Star Wars. I know nothing about it, I haven’t seen anything, but I’m sure there should be a few hilarious jokes in it!

* Still at 9.00pm, on the other side that we shall call CBS, it’s the comeback of Cold Case. The highly anticipated new season of this solid drama is finally back, and while it never got a lot of talk and press - it’s not Heroes - it is a great show, brilliantly done from the writing to the acting to the production, it really is worth watching.

And to make things even better, the season premiere will be a special episode. As viewers of the show already know, music takes a great part into the show, some even consider it a character of its own. And it’s not the first time that one episode of Cold Case is dedicated to one artist only, other great names are already on the list, such as the great Johnny Cash.

Tonight, as the murder Detective Lilly Rush and her team will work on took place in 1994, they add the name of Nirvana to that list. So if you’re a fan, and really, how could you not be, be sure to tune in. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, as the show always uses music with tact and knowledge. It really is a main component of the success of the show, and fully part of the story, as Executive Producer Veena Sud - who wrote the episode - said :

We’re thrilled to be featuring Nirvana songs exclusively throughout this chilling episode about two seemingly nihilistic male teens. (..) Nirvana’s music not only evokes the era when this case’s killings took place but brings a starkness and poetry to the story that deeply enhances it” .

If you’re curious, producers of the show have chosen to include some of Nirvana’s memorable hits like “All Apologies”, “Stay Away”, “If You Must”, “Lithium”, “Drain You”, “Heart Shaped Box”, “Something In The Way” or “Come As You Are” .

* And finally, I’m not sure why I mention this but at 10.00pm on the same CBS premieres the second season of a show that’s not great, or that good, and yet somehow got renewed while much better ones did not. Ladies and gentleman, Shark is back. Or you can go to bed, or watch the episode of Family Guy you recorded as you watched Cold Case “live”.
