This Week On TV
By fred | June 1, 2008
No need to go over what’s on TV every night now, because there’s isn’t much. So again, instead we’ll go over what’s on during the entire week ahead of us. There isn’t much, but already we have three new series premiering this week, and hopefully at least one of them will turn out to be good. A few words about them before the schedule…
* This very Sunday on USA premieres In Plain Sight. I don’t know much about this show, except that it stars Mary McCormack (The West Wing) as Mary Shannon, a U.S. Marshal working in the highly secretive branch of the witness protection program (WITSEC) who relocates Federal Witnesses. I don’t know if it’s gonna be any good, but at least this isn’t yet another show where the main character has some “ability” that helps him/her solve crime, so (s)he will be doing so/helping the police somehow, like so many of USA series, and I’d say about 90% of their upcoming projects as well with any “luck”…
* On Thursday NBC introduces a new series, Fear Itself. I’m not sure really what this is going to be like, or about, and to tell you the truth up until a few minutes ago if you’d asked me I’d have guessed it was probably either a game or some reality crap, just because of, you know, the title, the fact that this is NBC, during the summer, and did I mention NBC? But no, apparently it’s scripted, and names associated with it include Cynthia Watros (Lost), Shiri Appleby (Six Degrees) or Pablo Schreiber (The Wire) for actors, and writers who worked on shows such as Supernatural (Dan Knauf) or Masters Of Horror (Richard Chizmar & Johnathan Schaech, Drew McWeeny & Scott Swan, Max Landis).
The show is described as a “fun-filled ride of terror”, a series of 13 hour-long episodes from premiere horror writers and directors. Who knows…
* Also on Thursday is CBS new series, Swingtown, a show set in the 1970s that is said to explores the changes the sexual liberation brought to households, including open marriages and “key parties”. And if it is anything like what the promos I’ve seen, it doesn’t look good…
