Weeds: Doing The Backstroke

Weeds(S03E01) It’s been a while since I last saw the show, and while the first episodes of the show have found their way online I never found the time to watch them, so I was pretty happy to finally sit and enjoy the half hour of messy craziness that is Weeds.

That said, I can’t help myself but wonder if I like the show as much as I use to. On its first season, it was a pretty awesome show with a very different setup than what is has become today. And while evolution and changes are a good thing in itself, is the new direction the show is in as pleasing as its original, I’m not sure.

Weeds: A Pool and His Money

Weeds(S03E02) Another pretty interesting episode, where pretty much all of the stories from last season’s finale got resolved, one way or another, and now all the basis for a brand new season are in place, we’re ready to go… roll!

Most stories and “cliffhangers” have been resolved, but that doesn’t mean things have changed, not for everyone. While their stories might have, not everyone had evolved.

Weeds: The Brick Dance

Weeds(S03E03) Yes, I’m pretty late and didn’t get to watch this episode until now, even though it aired last week. Anyways, straight to the point. I remember last week (well, that would make it two weeks from now actually) when I said i enjoyed watching Californication more than Weeds.

Well, things are now reversed, some might even say “back to normal”. Even though if there’s one thing things are not, on Weeds, it’s back to normal. And I have to say, I love it!

I could summarize why I love this season of Weeds so much in one word : changes. Ok, I almost wrote consequences, and I gotta admit the two are a close thing, but more than the fact than things do have consequences, I love the changes.

Weeds: Shit Highway

Weeds(S03E04) I was one week late, so I started by watching this “old” episode first. So I watched it, and here’s a quick review of it beforeĀ I dive into the latest episode in date.

Last time I talked about changes, and how it was great to see a show were some would actually take place. Funny thing this time, we had yet another change, but it wasn’t one like the others.

Weeds: Bill Sussman

Weeds(S03E05) Drugs are usually considered a “bad thing”, I mean, they’re illegal and all. But when Weeds appeared on Showtime a few years ago, and while never implying that smoking pot was a good thing to do, or cool or whatever, they gave drugs - or pot at least - a “lighter touch”. Because you had this little family, and the mother was raising her children and trying to figure everything out on her own (husband passed away), and in order to do so she was selling weeds.

It wasn’t a drama, more a comedy. A satiristic vision of the good looking place of Agrestic, where every little boxes looks the same, nice and clean. Because behind the surface, not everything was as clean and pretty as it seems : couples were fighting and falling apart, kids were unhappy, and everyone seemed to like and want the product of the new neighborhood pot dealer, single-mom Nancy, up to city councilman Doug Wilson.

Give me my half-hours back!!

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | October 22, 2007

So I’ve been watching a few half-hour series this week-end. Nothing new, just part of my effort to clean my DVR. And I find myself quite disappointed by pretty much all the shows I’ve watched.

Aliens in AmericaFirst it was Aliens in America, the latest sitcom from The CW. I was pretty optimistic about this one after the pilot, because despite a few flaws like any new series, I thought it had some potential. But the voice over thing never went away, and I’m not such a fan, but the humor based on Raja being a Muslim isn’t as provocative or funny as it used to be, but some situations are just plain dumb, and highly predictable, but the role of the father it still very odd, ever since the first pilot (before the recasting) I felt like this character was not fitting in, he wasn’t like a member of the family, and the situations or jokes associated to him were not funny, and not even in the tone of the show.

Nothing of that changed, and I simply don’t enjoy watching it at all. Although there was one pretty good/funny line, from Raja himself : “I have never lied before, and I lost all sense of scale, and then I kept on going and going, in the vain hope that I would stumble upon that one lie, that would make sense of all the others - but I never did.

Need more Weeds ? You got it !

WeedsI’m still watching Weeds. I am, as a matter of fact I just watched last week’s episode (S03E12) ! Now I’ll be honest, I enjoy watching that show every week (or whenever I find the time to actually watch it), but I feel like it’s getting a but ludicrous at times. Like the whole Nancy and Celia “argument” for instance, just felt odd to me. I didn’t expected it, I somehow thought Nancy knew about Celia and “her” house, and would pull a “you tell, I tell” sorta move. Instead, she pulled a “let me put a knife on your throat” move !

Now that was actually fun, but awkward too. But who cares, now Celia is part of the deal. And guess what, no one is trying to hide anything anymore ! Sure, move everything and & exchange money on front of the kid, that same one who constantly threatens her mother and calls social services on her. Yeah, I don’t see why they should try to keep it low, it’s not as if they were dealing drugs or something here…

By the way, since when is Marvin back in the game ? Was he just giving a hand, somehow, or what ? Call me stupid, but I thought the guy was out of the picture for a while now. And we didn’t saw him for a while, so it made sense. Besides, if he’s still around, and Nancy works for him, then he’s the one to call when there’s trouble and he has to find a new place to grow, not her. No?

But despite that or other little things, I do enjoy the show on a regular basis. And I’m not alone there, as this third season does even better than the last one, so it only makes sense that Showtime did order a fourth season. They did, 13 episodes for a season to air next summer - that is, of course, unless the strike last for way too long…
