(S05E01) There are many shows you’re excited about, many you can’t wait to get them back into your lives, but somehow things are always different when it comes to The Office, because it’s one of those rare shows that isn’t just a TV series. Well, at least for some people (or, you know, me…) it goes way beyond that, as you get really attached to all those characters.
It’s not so much the show we missed over the summer, but the people in it. And boy was it good to see the adorable Pam, Jim, Michael, Dwight, Angela, and all the others! Unfortunate events beyond our control had them and us separated over the last few months, but finally a sense of rightness has been restored in the world as The Office came back into our lives.

Shows: The Office
In Series: The Office Season 5
By fred | October 10, 2008
(S05E02) Two weeks ago something amazing happened, something we all felt was incredibly huge, something that got us all very excited, I’m of course talking about Jim getting on one knee and proposing to Pam. This was only one little thing on the great season premiere of The Office, finally back for its fifth season, and we had to go two weeks before finding out what happened next.
But the wait was totally worth it, because once again this episode was one of the best episode of The Office. No really, everything was so perfect I’m sure it has to be ranked amongst the best episodes ever of the series, thus proven that this show is back and stronger than ever. This can’t be said about all the returning series on the air right now, but a few of them seem to be back with their A game, and The Office is definitely one of them.

Shows: The Office
In Series: The Office Season 5
By fred | October 17, 2008
(S05E03) This episode was pretty special… Okay, so you know how The Office is, before anything else, a sitcom. It’s a show you tune in every Thursday because you want to have a great time and laugh out loud for half an hour – because the show really is that funny. But at the same time it’s a show very unique because we all fell in love with all the characters and are now very much attached to them.
Not just that we care about them, watching a show for five years and not giving a crap about any of the characters would probably by a sign that there’s a problem somewhere, but we really let ourselves get emotionally involved, because the show has a heart (some call it Jam) and is not just always going for the laughs, many of the great moments of the show aren’t in our memories for the laughs they generated, but the emotions they were filled with and the way we felt watching.

Shows: The Office
In Series: The Office Season 5

(S05E04) I guess that at first, The Office was (just) a comedy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course, but things have obviously changed over the years, the characters of the show have evolved, and we’ve all fallen in love with them. In the mean time, this show has probably become the best at portraying relationships and might be the best place to get your fix for romantic comedy.
Love stories are legion now on the show, and one of them might be just about to break my (our?) heart. So far it’s all be good, very good, pretty perfect even, but after this episode and when trying to think where this is heading, I can’t see any other way for the show but to break my heart.

Shows: The Office
In Series: The Office Season 5

(S05E05) One of the best thing that ever happened to The Office is without a doubt the addition of the great Amy Ryan to the show. At first I wasn’t sure how I would feel about something taking over, especially since it meant we would lose Toby, whom we pretty much haven’t seen since then, and it was always fun to see Michael hate on him. But once Holly walked in, I didn’t even remember who Toby was.
Michael had a pretty catastrophic love life so far, just look at the mess Jan is, but with Holly things weren’t just different, but also so great. For a moment there, and with Pam away in New-York, Michael and Holly had become the office’s cutest couple, they are perfect for each other, by her side Michael was actually not the same, he was better than his usual self, and Holly was able to see through Michael’s often disturbed behavior and knew how to deal with it.

Shows: The Office
In Series: The Office Season 5

(S05E06) There’s no doubt in my mind that The Office is bringing his A game and delivering one awesome episode after the other. I might not always be happy about what I see happening, like last week when we had to see Holly go, but there’s no question that the episodes are great, hilarious, and all relationships of the show are evolving, whether it’s in way you like or not.
Now that, sadly, Michael is single again, that leaves us with two main relationships, two couples both engaged to get married, though not both of them are showing signs of happiness and excitement over said coming wedding. But what this episode showed us also, is that there was a third player in both case, someone who could be a game changer in the future of both relationship : Dwight Schrute.

Shows: The Office
In Series: The Office Season 5

(S05E07) Last week we ended the episode with what looked like some (new) tension between Jim and Pam, or possibilities of problems between them. Not so much because Alex was interested in Pam and something could ever happen there, but because of what he said, that this was her dream and if she really wanted to make it there, not to ever regret to take all the chances she could get, she had to stay longer.
It could have been been worrying, especially looking at both Jim and Pam’s faces after that little speech, neither of them willing to say anything, but as I explained than I myself was not worried but our lovely couple and their future, I have all the faith in the world they would make it okay, because writers know what they are dealing with there, and they’ve always managed to not go the obvious way, and they always made things right.

Shows: The Office
In Series: The Office Season 5

(S05E08) We should talk about what The Office is. Much like How I Met Your Mother, this is a great show that has been delivering so much awesome and hilarious episodes with such quality for many years now, that I think most of us have quite high expectations every week, and also we’re not willing to accept from those shows things we would find just fine in other sitcoms.
Because while they’re sitcoms, that is the category they fall under, neither of them are really just that. For once reason or another, they’re outgrow their initial status of “just a sitcom” to become something else, something more, something where having sitcom-esque situations or cartoonish characters isn’t acceptable. And while it might be where the episode went, a little, I have to say I loved it.

Shows: The Office
In Series: The Office Season 5

(S05E09) It’s funny, because while I didn’t find this episode to be the most hilarious one of the season, because while very funny it also didn’t had as many laughing out loud moments as previous episodes had, I felt, I still ending up absolutely loving this episode, to the point where I could call it one of the best ones of the season. Because overall, it was really funny, from beginning to end, and it was everything The Office can be, all those things we’ve come to know and love over the years.
We had things that couldn’t take place anywhere else but on this show, because I’m not sure someone like Dight could exist outside of the world of Dunder-Mifflin and the area, and we also had things that felt so truthful to the usual daily life of anyone working in an office, as per the very premise of this show. And while most of the episode took place within the office, let me start be what happened outside.

Shows: The Office
In Series: The Office Season 5
By fred | December 12, 2008
(S05E10) For its last episode of 2008, The Office offered us a Christmas special episode, and I’m not exactly sure how I feel about it. It’s a very mixed bag of emotions I have for it right now, with on the one hand lots of things I did like and I thought were great, and really funny, and on the other hand an overall impression that it was missing the usual level of hilarity I’ve gotten used to expect from this show.
Looking at what went down this episode at Dunder-Mifflin, I guess it was all exactly what you would expect. We all know those people can be a little crazy, each in their own way, and they really only acted as you’d think they would, no one really went crazy over the line or out of character, it all was the sort of things they would do, but the thing is, that doesn’t make it right, or funny.
