(S02E01) Last season ended with a bang, literally : a huge explosion and Cameron right in the middle of it. This new season opened right exactly where we left things off, right after that explosion. But before we go any further into what happened after that, I would like to first mentioned the way it was shown.
I felt that this episode was a pretty strong season opener and a really solid episode of a series that, clearly, has much to offer. That being said, I did not really like the way that first scene was shot. It’s not the first time we have a scene like that, with visual effects in the direction and an important use of the music made to support the on-screen action, in fact, lats season ended with such a scene as Cromartie was killing one FBI agent after the other and throwing them in the pool.
But while that scene worked really well, this new one didn’t really do it for me.

Shows: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In Series: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2
By fred | September 16, 2008
(S02E02) Last week, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was back and it started off right where we left off last season. We got to see if everyone was okay and could then get ready for the next step in the fight for the future survival of the human race or something. Because, sure, the title of this show does not refer to John Connor but to his mother, Sarah, but we all know the truth.
The truth is, her mission is to protect John and make sure he can become who he needs to become, because he is the one, he is the future leader of the resistance, the last and only hope we all have not to be exterminated by the machines, as hot as they may look in the future in leopard print top.

Shows: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In Series: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2
By fred | September 23, 2008
(S02E03) Last week we all felt bad about one thing, that stupid idea that John Connor, future leader of the resistance and probably last hope on Earth if not savior of the mankind, was sent to school by his mother. I mean seriously, the kid’s got to start to be involved in the fights and learn what he’ll need to know by the time the fate of everything whose existence doesn’t rely on some little chip plugged inside will be on his shoulders !
This week, it’s a bit of good news, bad news. On the plus side, John isn’t going back to school, although that seems to be more because he doesn’t feel like showing up there and less because he and Sarah realized it made no sense. On the other hand, sadly, he’s still not involved in the war against machines, not really, because his overprotective mother won’t let him. And because he’s acting like an idiot.

Shows: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In Series: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2
By fred | September 30, 2008
(S02E04) Yes, there’s only one character who get his (her actually) name on the title of this show, and that is of course Sarah Connor. And while I wasn’t really sure at first, Lena Headey has been doing a very great job so far. Yet, for some reason, the one name that probably comes out more often than others when talking about this show isn’t hers, but Cameron’s Summer Glau.
Which I guess also makes sense, she’s after all the “Terminator” part of the title. But while I found Lena Headey’s performance to be nothing but great on the show, I’ve stated before how I have a problem with the way Cameron is being portrayed. It’s got nothing to do with Summer Glau, who does a terrific job as well, no it is due to how her character is actually written.
It’s a real concern to me, and this episode made things even worse.

Shows: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In Series: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2

(S02E05) This show is good, this show is really good, despite what the Nielsen-reported ratings might say, but that doesn’t mean it’s not flawed. On many occasion already I have talked about the lack of consistency in the way Cameron acts and behaves, something that felt more than a plot move, something that didn’t make sense even (based on all we know at this point at least..), something that needed to be addressed (and still hasn’t).
It’s not the only continuity error that causes problem with this show, but at least there’s one area where they’re doing pretty good. This show had to take the existing mythology of two movies and make it its own, adapt it to fit a TV series and expand it, all of that without compromising it, and while keeping true to the basis of it otherwise fans would get disappointed.
And so far, they’re going a real good job there.

Shows: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In Series: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2
By fred | October 21, 2008
(S02E06) After a little break, the recently picked-up for a full season series is back, with all of its complexity. On this show more than on most others, we have time issues. It’s not just what happened in the past that’s important and can have huge consequences on the present, and so the future, but also what happened (or is that will happen?) in the future that does directly impact the present.
Even though some people are from the future, that doesn’t mean they know what will happen next. We’ve had flashbacks of the future, we’ve heard many stories, but at this point there isn’t a lot of things about it that we know for certain. One of the things we do, though, is that John Connor is the future savior of mankind, no less. The fate of everything is on his shoulders, and everyone keeps reminding that, one way or another, like by being willing to sacrifice so that he can live.

Shows: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In Series: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2
By fred | November 4, 2008
(S02E07) This show is really good, but there are a few things that do get annoying, especially as they last for episodes and episodes. Now while I understand that the idea for this show was to be about Sarah Connor and her personal issues as she’s trying to keep John alive, some things need to change, asap. It could have been accepted that she was an overprotective mother who refused to let John be John, the future leader of mankind, because she wanted to protect him so badly and refused the idea to see him either die or turn into a machine, figuratively speaking of course.
Just like we could go with him being an annoying teenager who wanted to have a normal life and whatnot, and acting like an idiot deserving a good slap in the face or two to straighten him up. For a while. For a while it could be fine, but weeks after weeks, it becomes really annoying, they both need to grow up, see what’s going on there and how it affects everything, and grow up.

Shows: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In Series: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2
By fred | November 11, 2008
(S02E08) It’s really sad to know this show will eventually end up on a Friday night, because - especially with Lost off the air as the moment - this might just be the best sci-fi show on television right now. Week after week there’s one thing consistent about the show, it’s that even when you don’t always understand or like the way characters behave, quality is always there.
But as I said last week, one thing that has been bothering me - annoying me even - is that after all this time we’ve been following the Connors already, they don’t seem to have evolved all that much. John has had moments where he wanted to fight and be involved in the missions, in the war they’re fighting, instead of being sent to waste his days in school.

Shows: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In Series: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2
By fred | November 18, 2008
(S02E09) The Connors never really had an easy life, where everything was simple and they didn’t have to worry much or look behind them constantly. In fact, quite the opposite, with the future war they’re already fighting, the doom of being the only hope of Mankind and future leader of the resistance, resistance against killing robots, some of which have been sent back in time to kill you, nothing less.
It’s easy to see why they would get headaches already, but as this episode’s title indicated, that was nothing, because now things are getting complicated. Last week they finally managed to get ride of one of their main enemy at the time, Cromartie. They killed it, destroyed its chip, but the body was only buried for the time being.

Shows: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In Series: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2

(S02E10) Let’s talk about the future! Seems appropriate, doesn’t it? So in the future, the Connors and their Terminator friends won’t be around on Mondays anymore, as they’ll be moving to Fridays. And I really hope that things have changed over at Fox (despite the lack of a boost for the series premiere of Dollhouse in a post-House or post-Idol slot…) and that they really intend to make their Friday nights a quality sci-ci block in which they believe in.
Because one thing’s for sure, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is really a great show. Week after week it proves that far from the Prison Break and other 24 (not bashing either of those shows, don’t start to hate) this show lives in a category of its own, a category of awesome scripts where it’s not all about action, explosions and fights.
