Swingtown: Pilot

(S01E01) Swingtown, CBS latest series, is a show about the 70’s. It is, and you can tell that right away : you see it everywhere, it’s in the clothes, the cars, the interior decorations, everywhere. You don’t just see it, you hear it too, as they made sure to play tune after tune directly from the era, to make sure everybody knew this wasn’t set anytime but in the 70’s.
So it works, thanks to the period cues, the sets, props, music, it is set in 1976 and we all know it. The thing is, just because there was some good music and awful clothes back in those days, doesn’t make it interesting, just because it can make us laugh seeing the pants every one is not wearing as they smoke pot doesn’t mean it should be the focus on a TV show.

In Series: Swingtown Season 1
(S01E02) Now that the first episode is behind us, we can start looking at episodes of Swingtown and see what the show is likely to be like and look like during the course of the season. Because while the pilot last week wasn’t all that good, frankly, it also suffered from the same syndrome that affects almost every pilot episode out there. Because it is the first episode, they try to introduce everyone and everything, try to put a bit of all that will make the show, even though it shouldn’t be all put inside one single episode.
