Supernatural: Lazarus Rising [season premiere]

Supernatural(S04E01) There was no question, Dean was coming back. Yes, last season of Supernatural was all about the infamous deal that sentenced Dean to Hell after only one little year left, and despite many attempts the brothers couldn’t find a way out. So, what had to happen happened : Dean was sent to Hell. That was the last image of the season, that’s how we left things for the boys, Sam & Dean were separated. By death.

Dean was by roting in Hell, and while we all knew he would eventually come back, because Supernatural couldn’t be without him, the real question was to know when he would be getting back, and how. Who could do it, what would be the price ? Those were the questions, and that’s exactly what this fantastic season premiere was all about !

Supernatural: Are You There God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester

Supernatural(S04E02) Do you believe in God? I have to say this isn’t really the first question I would have thought of asking either Sam or Dean, but when you think about it they spend most of their time surrounded by some kind of religion, one way or another. As is often the case when there’s demon involved, to fight them you gotta hit the books - or the online library for time to time.

But it’s in the old books that you will find information about the demons, their powers, their weaknesses, and, more importantly, the rituals you need to follow in order to get ride of those things. Whether they want it or not, whether they are religious or not, religion is a very important part of their lives, so it might be worth taking the time to ask : do they believe in God?

Supernatural: In The Beginning

Supernatural(S04E03) I’ve always know it, it’s not a secret, Supernatural is the best thing on The CW. As much as I may love Reaper or even Gossip Girl, there’s no question that this show, is just the best. But what this episode proved today, is that Supernatural isn’t just the best show on The CW, but one of the best show on TV, plain& simple. Seriously, this episode right there is the reason I’m a TVoholic, it’s just so freaking good, there’s no choice!

Definitely the best episode of the season so far and one of the best episodes of the series, I think this new season couldn’t have started any better than the way it did, and even better is how week after week things just keeps getting better and better. This episode had it all, actions, humor, great guest stars, Castiel, lots of Dean, and of course…

Supernatural: Metamorphosis

Supernatural(S04E04) For some time Sam & Dean were “only” hunting demons and sending them back to Hell, fighting evil to make the world a little safer, but recently they entered a brand new game. It’s not really new, it’s been going on for a long time, longer than we first suspected actually, but now there are much bigger things at play, and for reasons yet unknown to us, they have been chosen.

Sam, in particular, has been chosen. But of course there’s a trick, he hasn’t been chosen by the good guys to save the world, quite the opposite in fact. As we’ve seen last week, no one knows why he - or the other kids - have been chosen, not do we know what Azazel has in mind for them. Actually, while Castiel said last week that he knew what had been done to Sam, only not why, made me jealous because I don’t think we know what has been done to Sam.

Supernatural: Monster Movie

Supernatural(S04E05) The world is coming to an end, and God himself doesn’t even know whether his angels will be able to prevent the evil doing at play in the dark, that’s why he had Dean brought back form Hell. This season Supernatural took a turn to the dark as things got a lot more serious and complicated for our boys, but last night, last night none of that really mattered.

Because last night even the Winchester brothers couldn’t save the world, so instead they decided to do what they actually could do, like in the good old days, fight some monsters. Plain and simple, have some fun in doing what they do best, like they’ve done for years, as Dean put it, it was time for a black and white case.

And that’s exactly what we got, that and so much more.

Supernatural: Yellow Fever

Supernatural(S04E06) Last week we had an episode that was absolutely awesome, of course, and also quite hilarious. It’s nothing new with Supernatural, humor has always been a (good) part of the show and we’ve had “special” episode with a clear take on comedy before. Of course, after a beginning of this new season as serious and dark as what it has been, this was a refreshing change.

But now that that was done, it was pretty normal to expect a return to the basis of the show and the usual tone for this season, I guess. And you were probably expecting an episode filled with things like fears, ghosts, blood, and why not even the return of no other than Lilith… weren’t you?

Supernatural: It’s The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester

Supernatural(S04E07) After a very serious and dark tone for the first episodes of the season, Supernatural went all black & white and offered us a little “intermission”, with episodes that were obviously still pretty awesome, but also pretty hilarious. The tone was lighter, and for a moment the big stakes at play were almost forgotten. Sam and his demonic powers, Dean and his trip to Hell, and Lilith’s quest to bring Lucifer back to Earth were put aside for a little while.

Now, as the date pretty much forced it, this was the Halloween special episode of Supernatural, and as such it was probably quite natural for many of us, I suspect, to expect this episode to be another big bag of fun and hilarity, all the while tracking dangerous demons of course — I mean this is Supernatural, still.

Supernatural: Wishful Thinking

Supernatural(S04E08) Week after week it keeps happening, every single episode so far is confirming that this season of Supernatural might just be the very best one to date. It’s been a long road since Sam joined his big brother into a never-ending fight (or will it end some day?) against the forces of Evil, and now both brothers are in very different and unique positions, each for different reasons.

Sometimes an episode of Supernatural can be very intense, very dark and strong on the whole mythology, and sometimes it’s a much lighter tone, even going for a completely hilarious tone on occasions. Often, it’s a perfect mix of different things, as was this week’s episode. Last week we ended things with Sam using his powers in front of Dean’s eyes, and they never got to talk about it.

Supernatural: I Know What You Did Last Summer

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 14, 2008

Supernatural(S04E09) Maybe it gets old, because I feel like I might be saying this every week, but it just happens to be true : this show is awesome, and might be delivering its best season to date ! I’ve been watching the show ever since it premiered, and I always loved it, but things have evolved over time and the show isn’t like it used to be years ago. It almost feels now like Lost did, ever since the end-date had been set and writers could focus on where to bring the show, how they wanted it to end, as they knew exactly when this would be.

No such thing has been set for Supernatural, at least not officially, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the creative minds behind the show had their own date in mind, and knew exactly what would happen then, thus focusing on bringing is to that point. Because there’s this incredible sense of strength and confidence this season, especially in episodes such as this one where the whole mythology and overall story is at play, that makes everything feel so much better – and it was already pretty awesome to being with.

Supernatural: Heaven And Hell

Supernatural(S04E10) Let’s open with something I didn’t actually know before watching the episode, not that it would have changed anything, but this was the last installment of Supernatural we will get in a long time. The show is going on a little break for the rest of the year, next episode being scheduled for no sooner than January 15th, 2009. I know, that’s an awful long time, and I’m feeling sick myself as well… withdrawal I think.

It won’t be easy to wait that long before we get to see what happens next, but at least we got this to comfort us : this might have been the best episode of the season so far, which says a lot considering we’re in the best season of the show yet, delivering one fantastic episode after the other. This episode had everything that makes this show so good, and then some.
