(S12E01) I was pretty excited about the return of South Park, not (just) because with the writers’ strike there’s a clear lack of comedy on the air these days, but first and foremost because this is South Park ! No matter what, those guys are always able to come up with the funniest shit you could not even imagine, and they really have their way to create one episode that is going to be hilarious. Not once or twice, but for the full half-hour, 20 solid minutes of hilarity like you don’t find anywhere else.
I love it, I love this show, and I was really excited to see it back. Sometimes South Park have missed, not often but on occasion they’ve had episodes that didn’t work, that weren’t funny (at all). This episode opened with no other that Eric Cartman, and I guess you just can’t go wrong with that fat ass !

Shows: South Park
In Series: South Park Season 12

(S12E02) South Park is a very unique show, there are really no other like it. Of course it is a sitcom, and it’s primary objective is to make us laugh, and there’s no doubt that it succeeds at that every time in ways that not many others can do. When it comes to animated comedy, I think South Park is simply the best. And comparing all sitcoms all together, animated or not, sure there are some others that are also really hilarious (names like 30 Rock or The Office comes to mind…) but this little show is up there as well.
But what is also really fun with this show, is that it doesn’t only try to make us laugh, it also (most of the time) comes with a message, it has something to say about the society we live and/or current events. Doesn’t mean just because of it they’re any better, there’s nothing wrong with stupid jokes put together one after the other, if they’re actually funny. But here we have full stories, characters growth, and that satirical aspect, and all of that is also one of the reason we love the show so much, and let’s be honest when it comes to it, they’re the best.

(S12E03) Before talking about this week’s episode, let’s mention the place to go online for everything South Path, and, as said MTV networks’ entertainment group president Doug Herzog, “Southparkstudios.com is a true representation of Matt and Trey’s vision and is the ultimate online destination for South Park fans allowing them full access to every South Park episode ever created“.
Fair to say that when those guys work on something, they do it well. There are plenty of great things over there, including every episodes of every seasons (although to see episodes from the current season you need to wait for sometime in April), in some pretty good quality. Sure, it comes with ads before and within the episodes, but it’s all free, and best of all it’s available from everywhere in the world. I’m not in the US, and usually sites like that only give me a “not available for you, sucker” message. Not this time!

Shows: South Park
In Series: South Park Season 12

(S12E04) Time for a new dose of South Park, and so far this season it’s been quite good. Not all episodes have been that great, and a few times I’ve not liked it when they put their message first and only later came the comedy, when they didn’t completely forget about it that is. Their take on the Britney mess was pretty funny for the most part, but by the end of the episode there just weren’t any jokes anymore.
That’s never good, because as much as it is good to have a message, especially when it’s from those guys who always find a fun way to express it, the first reason we watch South Park isn’t to get the position of Trey Parker & Matt Stone on something, it’s to have them makes us laughs for half an hour.

Shows: South Park
In Series: South Park Season 12
By fred | April 10, 2008
(S12E05) I love South Park. Over their past eleven seasons (that much already!) they’ve obviously had some episodes that didn’t work, or simply weren’t funny (at all), but most of the times they’re simply brilliant. We’re in the 12th season, no less, and the show remains as fresh and hilarious as it was when it first started, if not better. I’m not sure how they manager to do it, but they really deserve all the praise they get, and then some.
With that said, and while so far this season had been quite good, in recent episodes there were some things that bugged me a little, when they decided to put their focus first on the message they intended for this episode to carry, and only after came the comedy aspect. It’s never a good thing to do so, especially for such a show, and it resulted in some scenes (or episodes) that weren’t always the funniest.
Not this week.

Shows: South Park
In Series: South Park Season 12
By fred | April 17, 2008
(S12E06) Alright, so this season of South Park has been pretty good I would say. I’m sure some will argue that we’ve had episodes that weren’t so good/funny, and I’ll be the first to agree with that, but overall it is still a pretty good season season, there hasn’t really been any weak episode, and most of the time it was quite hilarious. Take last week for instance, which was simply awesome.
But while this season has been good and I do love the show so I might be willing to see the best in it no matter what, it hasn’t been perfect. I have said before that more than once it seemed that they focused more on what they wanted to say, the message underlying in the episode, than actually comedy. And even when said message is dead-on, if I don’t laugh I don’t really like it, because the first thing I want from the show is to make me laugh for half an hour.

Shows: South Park
In Series: South Park Season 12
By fred | April 24, 2008
(S12E07) For one last time before the summer the bad boys of South Park came to our screens. No, the season isn’t over, but it’s taking its usual break and won’t be back with new episodes for months (probably sometime in October). Yeah, I know, but let’s not think about that and focus on last night’s episode instead. So far, I think this season has been pretty good.
It had its ups and downs, of course, and a few episodes haven’t been as funny as one could have hoped, but this is already the 12th season of the show, and it remains incredibly good, and more than once it had me, and you too I’m sure, laughing out loud. Last night was the mid-season finale, and to celebrate this special occasion we had a somewhat special episode of South Park.

Shows: South Park
In Series: South Park Season 12
By fred | October 9, 2008
(S12E08) They’re back!! Last episode of South Park was way back in April or something, before the show takes its usual mid-season break and left us all alone during the summer. But now they’re finally back, and maybe you forgot what it felt to have a new episode every week or so, to watch this little show on a regular basis, but as soon as this episode began it had to all came back.
It’s not just that its is funny and unique, it’s also that there are no other show like South Park, that will comment, make fun and criticize recent events in the way these guys do. Based on the title of this episode and its opening, you could have been under the impression that it was somehow about China, but it really wasn’t.

In Series: South Park Season 12

(S12E09) Any episode of South Park can have a large variety of appearances, from the topic they’ll focus on to the way they will do it, you never know what to expect. This week, we had an episode that was very “normal”, it was simply about the kids form that little place in Colorado and them being kids, and Cartman being, well, Cartman. There was no epic battle, nothing about recent political event or anything that took place in Hollywood, just the kids being themselves.
And of course as is often the case with them kids, it was all about Cartman. So what did Cartman do this week ? Well plenty of course, enough to either entertain or piss off about anyone around him, and surely it made for lots and lots of great laughs as far as we’re concerned.

Shows: South Park
In Series: South Park Season 12
By fred | October 23, 2008
(S12E10) Watching this episode reminded me of how much the show has changed, evolved over the years. It’s actually hard to believe that this is he 12th season already. I know it is but men, 12 years !! That’s an awful long time, and if after all those years the kids are still the same little kids they used to be back when the show premiered, I quick look at the opening credits is enough to remind us how much happened since then.
That, and also how the show changed from the pilot, even simply in the way it’s done. No more paper and scissors of course, South Park evolved to a level of animation much more evolved than what it once was, and they’re now able to come up with some really crazy shit, scenes you wouldn’t have ever expected to see on this show.
