(S02E01) The facts were these, last fall on ABC came to life one very unique show. It wasn’t like anything else you’d seen on TV before, it was intelligent, funny, cute, poetic, charming, quirky, and so much more. Some will tell it can be too much of it for its own good, but the reality is more simple, this show is unique, it’s what happens when your usual TV shows go away and TV starts dreaming…
Much like other freshmen last year, such as NBC’s Life, this great little show was not on the air for very long, and the writers’ strike came to cut its first season short, and then for months and months it was away. So, in a way, this was another series premiere for the show, and I sure hope that anyone who missed it last season will join the dream now.

Shows: Pushing Daisies
In Series: Pushing Daisies Season 2
By fred | October 9, 2008
(S02E02) Emerson Cod, the pie maker and his undead girl were all back last week, in a season premiere that apparently not everyone loved. I was rather pleased with it myself, maybe it was to get the show back that had me overly excited, but I still believed it was a very good episode of a show unique and with nothing not to love.
Maybe the investigation was a bit too complex to follow, I’ll give you that, but to be honest investigations aren’t really the reason I’m tuning in to watch Pushing Daisies week after week. It would be more of the romanticism, the poetry, the beauty, the romance or the humor, everything that makes this show so unique and different that what you usually see in TV land. This thing that when you watch the show, simply makes you feel good and put a smile on your face.
Also, Emerson Cod is pretty awesome.

Shows: Pushing Daisies
In Series: Pushing Daisies Season 2
By fred | October 16, 2008
(S02E03) The facts were these, when Pushing Daisies returned to grace our little screens a few weeks ago, not everyone was pleased with the season opener, thinking it might have been too packed or too complicated to follow. And maybe there was a little something of unusual back then, even though I liked the episode, because it was the season premiere and the show was also hoping to grab on new viewers who needed to be introduced to the show and its premise.
And then, Olive left the Pie Hole because secrets were too many too hard for her to handle the pressure. And so, the dynamic of the show might have been a little different than what you’d expect. This episode however had it all, the magic, the humor, the emotions, all the main characters were there and made what, I think, is the best episode of the season so far.
Maybe watching a show so bad it becomes funny can be fun for a week or two, but seriously people, it’s time to move away from NBC and head back to the real treat that Wednesdays have to offer (especially when Bones is not there).

Shows: Pushing Daisies
In Series: Pushing Daisies Season 2
By fred | October 23, 2008
(S02E04) There are things one might not fully realize when watching this show. For instance, it is true that some of the main characters haven’t been much developed yet, as the focus has always been mostly on Ted and Chuck. But one shall not forget that the first season was a very short one, with the writers’ strike and all, and since ABC didn’t deem necessary to bring the show back after the strike, one can easily think that it’s been a very long time already, over a year, and we have yet to learn more about some of the main elements of the show.
But the fact and he matter is, the first season was only made of nine episodes, not more, and while the show premiered over a year ago, and while we’re already at the fourth installment of the sophomore season, this is only the thirteenth episode of the show. In other words, had the first season been made of its full 22 episodes, we would only be a little after halfway through the season !

Shows: Pushing Daisies
In Series: Pushing Daisies Season 2
By fred | October 30, 2008
(S02E05) Pushing Daisies might be all unique and unlike any other show on television in many ways, that doesn’t mean it does nothing like all the others. For instance, while we have our weekly “case of the week” that must be investigated by Emerson Cod and his team, each episode also includes more personal items of the private lives of every one of the characters of the show.
In the past weeks we had the occasion to dive into Olive first, and then Emerson’s past, and so after that little pause it can only appear as normal to bring the focus back on no other than our very own pie maker.

Shows: Pushing Daisies
In Series: Pushing Daisies Season 2
By fred | November 20, 2008
(S02E06) Finally Pushing Daisies was back, and I sure hope you were watching. That for two reasons. One, because ABC will be looking at the ratings of this episode to make a final decision about the show’s fate, and two, because - as so brilliantly illustrated in this wonderful episode - the show does deserve to stay on television.
It doesn’t look like anything else and comes with its very own world, a world where people are often brought back to life, if only for a minute, a delightful world made of pies that, inevitably, make you feel better inside — and not because someone used drugs while baking them. There’s heart in this sweet little show, and despite dealing with death and living dead individuals all the time, it couldn’t be happier or funnier.
This show is, indeed, magic, and magic and murders make a perfect recipe for Pushing Daisies.

Shows: Pushing Daisies
In Series: Pushing Daisies Season 2

(S02E07) As with every new episode of Pushing Daisies came a new case for P.I. Emerson Cod to investigate, one he especially liked because there were considerable fees in retribution for his work. But just because Emerson had all the motivation in the world to solve that case doesn’t mean it was actually a good one, or that the actual investigation would be any fun to watch.
Not to say this was a bad episode, but the case of the week was only a mere okay to me, while the real interest of this episode came from everything that happened on the side, continuing what’s been set in previous episodes in the season with the appearance of one Dwight Dixon. We don’t really know who he is or why he’s after what he is after, but we know it’s all connected to both Ned & Chuck, and that Dwight might be able to create a mess in their little world of secrets.

Shows: Pushing Daisies
In Series: Pushing Daisies Season 2

(S02E08) There’s always this bittersweet taste in the back now, when you watch an episode of Pushing Daisies. Knowing that the show has been canceled, that we now have only 5 episodes left and that we won’t get any closure or conclusion by the end of its run just makes me sad. It makes me sad for a a few seconds, while I think of it, and then I forgot as the episode starts.
Then I get grabbed by the magic of this show, and I never think of it until the end, when it’s over and I realize that it’s even more difficult to have to let it go when we’re given episodes such as this one, which was probably one of the best the show ever did. It just felt about perfect in every way it possibly can, giving something interesting to do to about each and every character on the show.

Shows: Pushing Daisies
In Series: Pushing Daisies Season 2
By fred | December 11, 2008
(S02E09) Last week we had some unusual pairings going on, and that was all for the best as we had what might have been the best episode of the season, if not series. This week while going back to a more common types of pairings, we still had different stories involving different players, and leaving some whom otherwise wouldn’t usually work together to do so for the occasion.
And much like last time, it worked all for the best, as this was once more a very good episode. An episode which had of course it’s new murder of the week, and as always we had Emerson and Ned to go and have a little “chat” with the dead victim, because that’s how all investigations start for Emerson Cod.

Shows: Pushing Daisies
In Series: Pushing Daisies Season 2

(S02E10) And that was it for Pushing Daisies in 2008, and sadly we’re also very close to the end of it all as the show, as we all regret, as been canceled already. It’s a real shame, I’ll tell you, that such a great little show so creative and funny and heartwarming can be can out to rest that way, only to make room for more reality crap and other NBC sort of things. Gosh, sometimes I hate TV… or those who makes decisions about what’s on.
Anyways, as we’re coming to an end something seems to be happening on this show, almost like he knew he wasn’t going to stay around for much longer, and we have a much stronger serialized story moving on. Sadly, they can’t go faster that the music and there’s so little time, it will be hard. I hear that with a lot of last-minute tweaking and reworking, the series finale (episode 13) will bring us some answers, but it won’t be as magical as it should have been. If only, because it should have lasted a whole lot longer!
