Psych: The Ghost In You

Psych(S03E01) Oh boy, did I miss them! Yes things got a bit busy on my end and I didn’t get to see the return of Shawn Spencer and Burton “Gus” Guster until a few minutes ago, that wasn’t easy to do, the wait was killing me, but I made it through just fine, I watched the episode, and suddenly all is well. Last season was a pretty awesome one, and I know many disliked - to say the least - the premiere episode, but I don’t have such a bad memory of it actually.

Either way, this season they had a more “traditional” episode, i.e. no singing, and it rocked! I really don’t see why anyone would not like it, from the very first minutes still back in the flashbacks - the most recent flashbacks so far? - things were absolutely hilarious, and it never stopped. A pure moment of Psych like I love them, filled with pop culture references, hilarious lines, and of course a pineapple.

Psych: Murder? …Anyone? …Anyone? …Bueller?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | July 26, 2008

Psych(S03E02) The joy of Fridays in the summer, and a new episode of Psych, filled with its usual goods of pineapple, retro-references and hilarious jokes all along. After a good season premiere last week, we were given a somewhat special episode this week. It wasn’t all that different from your usual episode of Psych, at least this time there was an actual crime to solve unlike last week, and yet at the same time it wasn’t your typical episode.

But it didn’t need to be, because it was still everything we’ve come to expect and love from the show. If anything this was a proof that they are not doomed to repeat themselves or limited by some kind of formula to follow week after week, they’re free to break away from it any time they feel like doing so. For this episode they did, and it worked out for the best, really.

Psych: Daredevils!

Psych(S03E03) It’s pineapple time again! It’s a summer tradition on Fridays to have fun with our favorite duo of fake psychics but real detectives, Shawn and Gus. So far this season the show had tried to get a little more serious, especially when Shawn’s mother was introduced, but the show remains a comedy. And that’s a really good thing, in my opinion.

Not that I don’t like seriousness or giving more depths to the characters, but the heart & soul of this show lies in the comedy, it’s goofy, it’s fun, it’s filler with pop culture references and there’s a pineapple hidden somewhere in the middle of it. That’s how it rools, that’s how it works best, and I think that’s how it should stay. This episode was all about that, no more look into Shawn’s past or his relationship with his father, and yet it also has a little more of a serious tone as well.

Psych: The Greatest Adventure In The History Of Basic Cable

Psych(S03E04) So far this season of Psych has been a little different than all of the previous ones, because our favorite detectives never had to work on an “official” case, one for which they’d been hired by the police department (and for which they’d get paid). We always had something, more or less creative, to find our boys working out a new mystery outside of the usual application for their Psych agency.

And last week I remember wishing this would change, mostly because Lassiter & Juliet where sent back to not-so-good B plots that only allowed for them to have about 5 seconds of screen time each week, and close to no interactions with either Shawn or Gus. This week, it was both the same, and different — and in the end, it worked out pretty good!

Psych: Disco Didn’t Die, It Was Murdered!

Psych(S03E05) I’m quite late in my schedule, being a little busy these days, but I wasn’t going to pass on a new episode of Psych, of course not. So I finally got to sit down and watch the new installment of the show, and, well, that was an episode that left me with a few things to say. Some about the episode and/or the show in itself, of course, but also others about the opening credits.

I’m pretty sure I might have mentioned this before, the while not all shows nowadays have (real) opening credits, with a song and everything, this show does have one, and it’s a great one. There’s a few shows like that, when hearing the first notes of the song just makes you all giddy, happy and ready to have a great time. The Office is one of them, Psych is another.

Psych: There Might Be Blood

Psych(S03E06) I’m running late in my TV watching these days, but I couldn’t have gone for too long without the Friday fun that comes with every episode of Psych. This show has been much fun for quite some time now, but this season something is not like it used to be, hasn’t been ever since it premieres a few weeks ago. It almost looks to me as if they’re trying hard to make it so that no one could “accuse” the show of being formulaic.

So they try to come up with new things, different adventures, anything not to do what could look like what has been done in the past couple of years. While I could appreciate the effort and a fresh flow of creativity is always welcome, to force such a thing week after week might not be the best thing, and I have the feeling that this might actually be hurting the show somewhat.

Psych: Talk Derby To Me

Psych(S03E07) Yes, it’s Sunday and I’m just posting about the latest episode of Psych, I know. As things turned out, I got busy and couldn’t get to my little screen sooner. But now that I have, let’s talk derby!

It went by fast enough that you may not have realized this already, but we’re already soon approaching the mid-season mark here, as next week will be the “mid-season finale” before the show takes its usual little break. Before that, this week we had, finally, something I have been waiting for since the beginning of this season pretty much, the longer I had to wait for it the more I wanted it, and finally, this was the day.

Psych: Gus Walks Into A Bank

Psych(S03E08) Finally got to see what is already, as hard to believe as it may be, the “mid-season finale” (or summer finale) of Psych. That is to say it’s already episode 8 if this new season, we’re halfway through and we won’t be seeing any new episode until next year (except for a special Christmas episode). Yes, as the fall season is only starting up, time as already come where we have to say goodbye to Shawn & Gus for a little while…

And the most amazing part might be that we pretty much never had one episode as we used to get all season long in the past, one episode where our two friends would be working a case with the Police Department and their lead detectives, Lassiter & Juliet. The show ventured into drama territory, tried new things to break away from the “formula” of past seasons, and to be honest it wasn’t always for the best.

Psych: Christmas Joy

Psych(S03E09) Keeping up with its tradition, Psych came out of hiding for a special Christmas episode before hibernating again, only to return January 9th. While other shows are starting to go away for the holidays it was a very nice reminder to get to see Shawn and Gus one last time this year, and bring into our homes a little of that Christmas joy

One year ago we got to meet Gus’ parents, and this time they were back - with a little change as Gus’ father was portrayed by Keith David instead of Ernie Hudson - and they brought someone else with them, someone we hadn’t met yet, unlike Shawn who had even done a little more than just that. I hear that.
