(S02E01) Do you remember that day, last year, in December ? it was a Wednesday I think, December 5th, 2007 ? Yeah I know, it’s been like 10 month, of course you don’t really remember what happened that day, so I’ll give it to you : it was the last time a new episode of one of the greatest series to ever grace our screen was on the air. Oh yeah, it’s been ten freaking long months until we saw a new episode of Life !!
Needless to say, I was incredibly happy to have it back. Also, if you didn’t remember everything, that’s because NBC didn’t think things like reruns would be helpful. But let’s not talk about that, let’s focus on the episode. This awesome episode. I’ll tell you, I was worried. When I started watching this episode, I was very excited, and also worried.
Now I’m just excited, and happy. I think this is where I smile, my happy place : in front of an episode of Life.

Shows: Life
In Series: Life Season 2

(S02E02) Charlie Crews and Dani Reese were back for the second time already this week, as they will be next week. I’m not really sure it’s a vote of confidence from NBC, all in fairness it probably is quite the opposite in fact, but for now let’s focus on the good part : for the second time this week we got another hour of our beloved Life!
Once again we had an episode filled with many many things. This show has always had at the very least two main side to it, three if also count the essence of it, the portrayal of broken characters getting a second chance at life. The two first are the procedural aspect of the show, the case of the week, and the serialized bit, the ongoing conspiracy against Charlie how he’s tracking everyone down.

Shows: Life
In Series: Life Season 2
By fred | October 7, 2008
(S02E03) For the last time there was a new episode of Life on a Monday night. From now on an starting this very Friday, the show settles down on its regular slot, Fridays at 10.00 meaning that, yes, once again we’ll get a double-dose of Life this week as Charlie & Dani are coming back in just a few days. But before that, they were just here last night, and there’s a lot to talk about, obviously.
I have said before that, to me, Life isn’t a cop show. Or, more exactly, it only has the appearance of one, but that’s not what it’s about. And I’m not talking about the whole conspiracy behind Charlie’s 12 years in prison either, I mean the show is all about people, not about a murder, solving a crime or even finding out who framed Charlie. All of that are just excuses, excuses to spend time with those often broken characters, and see them have a second change at life.

Shows: Life
In Series: Life Season 2
By fred | October 11, 2008
(S02E04) [Took me a while to finally sit down and write this one down, sorry, got busy elsewhere.] It feels good, doesn’t it? To have your Life back. I’m sure many might be still trying to see whether or not the show is fully back to the level of awesomeness it had reached last season, if it’s already there, even better, and not as good. I won’t lie to you, I myself am struggling with this, on some aspects, trying to figure out if the show is as great as it was last season, and if I love it less (yeah right!), as much, or more right now.
Either way though, there’s no denying that the show is back on the air, Charlie Crews and Dani Reese are back, and just for that we all have reasons to be happy and smile.
As for this new episode, if last week I had doubts, I felt like things were a little different and I wasn’t sure if that was for the better or not, this time and with a setup like that one, it simply couldn’t have been anything less than a fantastic episode.

Shows: Life
In Series: Life Season 2
By fred | October 18, 2008
(S02E05) It’s a very strange thing, maybe a dangerous thing in fact, to fall in love with a show so much that you forget it is a TV show, and as so might be bound to obey some of the stupid rules that apply in TV land, to deal with networks’ demands and all those kinds of things. There’s some shows, because they are so good, you just don’t think about that, it’s all about art, it’s about what the creative team behind the show wants to do, to say, to make you feel.
You don’t expect Lost to suddenly become very light on mysteries and to have one self-contained story each week in a very procedural manner because to you, me, all of us, it wouldn’t make any sense, because Lost isn’t just a TV show, it’s Lost, and it somehow must obey by certain rules. And the drama has the chance to be on ABC, a network that was smart enough to get that, and allow the creative minds in control to do what they wanted to do with this show, to give them the ability to do just that, because the Alphabet knew that this was what the fans wanted to see, and what was making and would continue to make the show such a great show.
Life is a piece of art more than it is a TV show, I’ve always felt that way, but Life has the misfortune to be on NBC, and it seems to me that this season, the show is less about what the creative minds wanted to do with the show, and more adjusting to the pressure of the network.

Shows: Life
In Series: Life Season 2
By fred | October 25, 2008
(S02E06) I guess all of us, fans of this awesome little show, have had concerns about this new season, about the changes that took place since its fantastic first season, and quite obviously there are reasons for such concerns. While all episodes so far have been pretty great, it’s also only fair to note that it’s been uneven in how much the show was the same as it used to be.
We all agree that the prison experiment, Not For Nothing, was a terrific episode which had that little special thing that makes Life so unique. Last week I mentioned lots of the concerns I had with this show, and to open this pretty awesome episode, we had a shot was almost like an answer for all the fans out there, to remind them that this was still Life, the show they fell in love with last season.

Shows: Life
In Series: Life Season 2
By fred | October 30, 2008
Next week on that day we will be talking about Life and the latest episode of the show, since it is moving to Wednesdays at 9.00 from now on. But before that I wanted to just talk a little more about one thing that happened last Friday during last episode, one thing that I thought was was really bad, in an otherwise really great episode. I am of course talking about that kiss, that horrible kiss that happened by the end of the episode.
I haven’t commented it that much in my review of Did You Fell That, other than to say I hated it, because that’s pretty much how I felt, and still feel, about it. But now that I had a little more time to calm down and look back at it, I just wanted to add a couple of things, a theory of why it happened, and what it meant that it did happen that way…

Shows: Life
In Series: Life Season 2
By fred | November 6, 2008
(S02E07) As we all know, this show is absolutely brilliant, but so far this season things haven’t been as great as they once were, the show we loved so much didn’t return to use for a sophomore season exactly as we left it, about a year ago. All of this has already been discussed in the past and will most likely continued to be discussed for as long as it is still going on on the show.
Many have focused on Dani, for obvious reason, as a perfect illustration of what went wrong this season. She is a perfect illustration of what changed, and did in a bad way, especially since we weren’t given any sort of explanation whatsoever, an illustration of what needs to be addressed sooner rather than later, but she is not the problem. The problem, and there’s not one doubt about this, is that douchebag most ingore and some refer to as Tidwell.

Shows: Life
In Series: Life Season 2
By fred | November 13, 2008
(S02E08) Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is on its way, and in the middle of it stand Charlie Crews, Dani Reese, and yet another unique crime to solve. I couldn’t be happier than knowing that Life finally made it out of the Friday death slot, not only that but also got its back-nine order and has been picked up for a full season. Hopefully, it means NBC is starting to see potential in the show and they’ll stop messing with it and let the creative minds behind it do what they want to do with it.
Hopefully, writers will feel more confident now and we’ll get a bit closer to that unique feeling that Life used to have during its first season, and that hasn’t always been easy to find with the recent episodes. Actually, take this episode for example : I think it was a very good episode, I really liked it. It had one of those crimes so unique to Life, and of course we had many great moments from Charlie and Dani as I just love them.

Shows: Life
In Series: Life Season 2

(S02E09) I think that I might be a bit obsessed with this show, or the way it changed this new season, and maybe because of it I fail to enjoy it the way I should. But I can’t help myself, and I also happened to think I’m totally right. So we’ll talk about it some more, because while this was a good episode, a really good one, I can’t help but feel that it also couldn’t have been one episode of last season.
It’s the same show, with the same characters and everything, and yet there seems to be something missing this season, like it was the result of a decision - for which I blame NBC - to make the show more “normal”, less different, less unique. We all know that last season, this show was like nothing else on TV, just like Charlie Crews was like no one else. All in a good way.
