Journeyman: Pilot

Journeyman(S01E01) Well, I think you cannot read something about NBC’s new series Journeyman without a mention of reference to Quantum Leap. And it makes sense, of course, seeing how both show are about a guy traveling through time. Traveling back in time actually, as our new hero Dan does not seem to ever go to the future either.

But let’s be honest, that isn’t enough to justify a name of “remake”. And after watching, it is clear that - while both shows have many things in common, of course - this is definitely not a remake of the old Quantum Leap.

And that’s a good thing. Now, this does not mean it is a good show ; so, is it?

Journeyman: Friendly Skies

Journeyman(S01E02) After a promising start, now started the real challenge for Journeyman, as any other new series, with the second episode. Because now the excitement of discovering a brand new series is gone, now we want to know more and see if we can still be interested and willing to invest time in that show every week. Now, we get to see what kind of episode we can expect every week.

And Journeyman does have a pretty interesting basis, much more than just a Quantum Leap clone, as one may think - or have thought before watching it. And after the pilot, as despite its flaw, and it does have a few, I was pretty excited to see what they had in store for us…

Journeyman: Game Three

Journeyman(S01E03) So… what did you think about this episode ? Do you still like the show, do you like it even more, or do you get unsure about it ? I am not asking because this episode was so spectacular or special in any way, it wasn’t really. A very classic episode of what this series will be over time, but also because it’s the second of the kind (pilot excluded for being the first ever, or a pilot one might say), you know the drill already.

I was curious about the show before I saw any of it, and after the first two episodes, and while it is not perfect, I was still pretty hooked. Did things changed after the third chapter.

Journeyman: The Year of the Rabbit

Journeyman(S01E04) Despite my liking of this new series, last week I was forced to say that I was almost “disappointed” by it. I don’t really want to use the term of disappointment because it’s a bit too strong, but I had my list of complaints with the episode and the show, and what I didn’t like.

This doesn’t mean it was bad or that I didn’t enjoy watching it, nor that I would not keep tuning in, but I was anxious to see whether or not it was only a one-time deal, or a more general road on which the show was moving on. In other words, was it only a mistake we could forgot about, or a more global concern about the whole series in itself.

Journeyman: The Legend of Dylan McClean

Journeyman(S01E05) I am not really sure how I feel about this one. Not the episode, but the whole show. It’s not that it’s bad, because obviously it isn’t, but it’s not that good either. And there are so many flaws and problems that it makes it really hard for me to ignore them and enjoy each episode.

And to be fair, they’re not really helping. I mean once again we had an episode that was not bad, nor disappointing, but because they don’t even seem to try to want to fix any of the issues - some pretty major - going on with the show, I’m forced to say that I don’t enjoy it.

Journeyman: Keepers

Journeyman(S01E06) When I first heard of this show new, I was curious about it. I didn’t think it was gonna be great or really bad, I didn’t know how much like Quantum Leap it would be, all I knew was that it might be worth a look. So I watched the pilot, and then I got interested, very interested even.

Because it was obvious that it wasn’t going to be just some stupid remake of the aforementioned series, but much more. It was differently done, on a few levels, and it got some ideas and mysteries that I got quite curious about. So I started to tune in every week…

This is when things started to go downhill. Because soon enough, the flaws and problems, for some already there in the pilot, started to grow and grow, and a few of the really interesting ideas were simply forgotten, not mentioned ever again - or only from time to time, to fill in the hour. I got very disappointed by what happened and a few episodes, the last ones left me even considering I might stop watching the show all together!

Of course I did not, but I find myself wondering now, have I gone past the point of no return ?

Journeyman: Double Down

Journeyman(S01E07) It’s funny how things turn to be, sometimes. Last week I wonder if I had gone behind the point of no return with this show, and whether or not I could actually enjoy it.

I listed the main concern, or problems I’m having with the show, one of the them being the consequences. Yes, some were hinted in that episode but as I explained it wasn’t there still. It was still focus almost exclusively on the life of whoever Dan is “sent after”, and I wanted more. Like Dan’s life for starter.

Journeyman: Winterland

Journeyman(S01E08) Here’s the deal, I had some problems and I couldn’t actually watch Heroes as I had planned, hopefully I’ll do that tomorrow. So in the mean time I decided to sit down and watched a new Journeyman, and as it started I found myself what was my last opinion on this one, where did I stand ?

And it all come back to me. I remembered asking myself whether or not I had gone pass the point of no return, where the show would have gone too far in inconsistencies and disappointment for me to be able to ever enjoy it. I also remembered last week’s episode that tried to address some big issue, consequences, and how incredibly disappointed I had been, because it got it all wrong.

Journeyman: Emily

Journeyman(S01E09) Well I said I would so I guess I kinda had to watch this one, but pretty much before I even hit play I realized something, and as I was watching the first tip Dan travels back in time in this episode, what I was watching kind of worked as a confirmation of what I was thinking…

Which is, I am most definitely beyond that famous point of no return I mentioned in previous reviews of that show. I realized that at that point in the episode, and when watching how it ended I couldn’t hide that fact anymore, I don’t think I care about this show no more. It’s too late.

Journeyman: Blowback

Journeyman(S01E10) This is a show that from the start I thought had great potential, and I was pretty excited about it when I started watching. But then, episodes after episodes I lost touch with it, and the more it went the less interested I was, to eventually pass the point of no return after which I simply didn’t care anymore about it.

And that’s a shame, because it really could have been something pretty cool, and I really wished it would have happened. But the show never got there, it kept making mistakes and not doing what should have been done and doing things that didn’t made sense or definitely should not be done, what a disappointment this whole experienced will have turned out to be.

Then to make things ever worst, we got this episode. An episode that was actually pretty good !
