In Plain Sight: Pilot

In Plain Sight(S01E01) We didn’t had to wait long before seeing new series premiering this summer, as last night on USA was the series premiere of their latest original show, In Plain Sight. Now I’ll be honest, I’m still a little mad at USA for canceling The 4400 the way they did, and not allowing us to get any closure, conclusion, answers, anything. Especially for a show such such strong serialization going on, to never know how it ends / what it was about / what was really going on is always incredibly frustrating.

Still, why should that stop me from trying new shows, right ? Plus this show had at least two things going for it, one it’s not the usual USA show about someone with a “special ability” solving crimes or helping the police one way or another, like almost all their shows -although, don’t be a fool, it is still about cops… - and two, there’s just absolutely nothing else on.

In Plain Sight: Hoosier Daddy

In Plain Sight(S01E02) Last week was the introduction of USA latest series, In Plain Sight, and while I wasn’t really pleased with what we got to see, at least USA can be happy about the start for the show, one of their best in a while with over 5 million viewers !

Things have started well, and now comes the real test as we’re heading into the second episode, an episode which will also have some competition to face. But for the moment let’s focus on the episode itself, and how it went. As I said I was really not impressed with the pilot, which looked more like a collection of clichéd scenes and characters than anything else, and in the end wasn’t really good really wasn’t good.

Now we have a second episode, and things are getting a little better. Well, a little less terrible to be exact

In Plain Sight: Never The Bride

In Plain Sight(S01E03) Third installment of this new USA series, In Plain Sight, and by now things are coming a little more clear as to what kind of show this will likely develop into, how it will work (or not, actually) and what to expect from it. The two first episodes haven’t been all that good, but at least the second one was a little improvement over the pilot, flawed by being a pilot, so there was hope for a better tomorrow.

Tomorrow is now here, we’re into the third episode already and things are slowly shaping up, and forced to admit that it doesn’t look very good. Sure, Mary is one Hell of a mess, she’s a complicated character and Mary McCormack is doing a nice job in her portrayal. Too bad she can’t really do wonders, because she’s not given much to deal with in the first place.

In Plain Sight: Trojan Horst

In Plain Sight(S01E04) Aw, In Plain Sight, that new USA series about Mary Shannon, US Marshall who’s not afraid to bend the laws and blah-blah-blah usual stuff. After a highly flawed and really not that good pilot episode, the show seems to have evolve into something that isn’t as bad as it may first have looked, but to be completely honest, something that still isn’t really good either.

So it’s not bad and there’s not really much else on TV these days, all resulting in me tuning in once again and watching a new episode. And now that I have, I can’t really say I’m disappointed by it. It wasn’t really good, it’s no where near the quality of what I’ve become used to see on television, even from cable networks during the summer, but it’s not all bad, and again, there’s really not much else on anyways…

In Plain Sight: Who Shot Jay Arnstein ?

In Plain Sight(S01E05) At first, USA new series In Plain sight was described as a show about WITSEC and how a couple of U.S. Marshalls would have to deal with whoever was welcomed into the program. And we’ve had some episodes that were mostly about that side of the job, episodes such as last week’s. But sometimes the show uses WITSEC only as a starting point, a way to introduce some characters into what is a very standard police investigation.

This week, that was about it. I mean sure, it started with some people getting into the witness protection program, and yes there was that tiny bit of specificity that made the whole situation slightly different than what you normally have when a couple joins, and it looked like that was part of what the episode was going to be about and focus on.

In Plain Sight: High Price Spread

In Plain Sight(S01E06) Five episodes in, In Plain Sight hasn’t developed into a great show so far. It’s not completely bad either and I do like it so far, but it’s heavily flawed and clichéd all along the way, with a clear habit for a lack on consistency or follow-up on previous events/episodes. I’ll be honest, if there was any competition worth-watching, I might have dropped this show.

But there isn’t really any competition, and it’s not completely terrible, so I keep watching week after week. It hasn’t always turned out for the best, but at least this week I’m happy I kept tuning in, because while still not the best this show could be, I feel this might have been the best episode of the show so far. One thing for sure, it’s the one I enjoyed the most.

In Plain Sight: Iris Doesn’t Live Here Anymore

In Plain Sight(S01E07) Oh look who’s behind schedule here… Yeah, this episode aired Sunday on USA, but I got delayed and only got to finally watch it today. It took me longer than usual to get to watch this episode, I usually am faster at it, but it’s not an uncommon thing for viewers of In Plain Sight not to watch live. In fact, pretty much since it started In Plain Sight has been toping the top time-shifted cable shows, with an increase over 30% from the live audience - and that’s over 1.2 million viewers who, each week, watch the show within seven days after it actually aired.

But back to this episode : Linda Burstyn. Who’s that?, you ask; Well, it’s the name credited for writing this episode, so I assume she is the one we have to thank for what was, without question, the best episode of the series so far, no less. Here’s to hoping that the next episode will follow the very good path that this episode too, because now we’re starting to have a really good show !

In Plain Sight: Don Of The Dead

In Plain Sight(S01E08) It’s been recently announced that In Plain Sight would return for another season, with already 16 episodes ordered. The show has been doing well and, more importantly for us, episodes have had a tendency lately to get better week after week, so such a good news is obviously welcome. With that announcement and the memory of last week’s episode, which was the best one of the show so far, I think it’s fair to say that this week I had some expectations from this episode.

Not that I usually don’t, but now I was really hoping that the quality delivered last week would remain in this episode, and that the show would stay on his road to become a really good thing. So it is with great sadness that I have to report how disappointed I was with this episode, which really felt like taking a turn back to weeks before, when things weren’t all that good.

In Plain Sight: Good Cop Bad Cop

In Plain Sight(S01E09) Last week I wasn’t too happy with this show, because after a pretty great episode, and given how each episode had a tendency to be better than the last, I guess it’s fair to day we might have had some expectations that clearly weren’t met. The show has improved from its debut, it’s gotten better, but last week it wasn’t at his best.

So it’s a great thing to see that this week it got better, and while there are still flaws - and this episode had quite a few things that felt a bit off, really - at least it was back to a better level. This was another episode that, despite everything, I really enjoyed. I had a good time and I think that this is the kind of episode we might want to see each week from this show, only with less flaws/non-sense maybe.

In Plain Sight: To Serge With Love

In Plain Sight(S01E10) I think I’m conflicted over what I think about this show, or more precisely how I feel about it. There’s a couple of things that have me unable to really stick with a definite position I think. First of all it is made out of different stories, about each episode contains at least two main plots : first, we have a new witness situation for Mary (and Marshall) to take care of; and secondly we have Mary’s private life, and that means her little sister and her mother.

Like most of everyone I think, I don’t like the later. Not that developing Mary’s private life is a bad idea per-se, but the use of family relatives was a clear mistake here. It never really brought anything to the show, but they’re here and as long as long are it’s a problem, because those plots are usually pretty lame and boring and take the entire episode down.
