(S04E01) Finally, got to sit and watch the return of man himself, the only person on this planet to hold a PhD in horribleness Awesomeness, Barney Stinson! Last season ended with two main stories left hanging right up there in the air, both involving a couple. First, we had of course Barney himself, severely injured and then realizing he might actually care for Robin a little but more then he first thought he did.
How would he handle this ? Could he even admit it to anyone, starting with himself ? How would this change him ?
And then, we have Ted. Ted who did nothing less than propose to Stella the last time we saw them, and then nothing. So let’s start off right right there, with Ted facing what we’ve all been dying to find out for all those months : will she say “yes” ? Could that make her The mother ?

(S04E02) Have you ever had a burger that tasted so good, eating other burgers after that was never the same ? Because of that one burger, and what it represented, now every other burger in the world were just meat between bread, and so you ended up driving miles and miles looking for that one burger again, because nothing compares to the magnificent taste of the best burger of your life ?
Of course, this episode wasn’t really about burger. I mean it was all about burgers of course, and not just any burger, but - as the episode’s title say - the best burger in New York, but the truth is there were much bigger things at play here…

(S04E03) There is this unwritten rule in TV land (or maybe it is written somewhere in the write a TV show for dummies handbook, I honestly have no idea) that applies to about every show out there, but is even more true when it comes down to sitcoms. It states that things should not change and characters should not evolve, not really. Of course it’s not always true, Lost is the perfect example where you want and need things to change and evolve, constantly.
And yes, on Seinfeld George did get engaged at some point, but it was all done in a way that wouldn’t break anything. Because you love House because he’s cranky and addicted to Vicodin, he can’t just turn happy and drug-free. George was able to move, lose a job, get a job (or not, he wasn’t exactly sure), go back to his parents, get engaged, it never changed the character and the dynamic of the show.

Shows: How I Met Your Mother
In Series: How I Met Your Mother Season 4

(S04E04) If you know this show, you know it isn’t just a very awesome and hilarious show, it is also unique in so many ways that you couldn’t possibly ever say it looks like just another sitcom. But, last week, something was wrong, last week it almost did feel like just another sitcom, with a very classic storytelling narration and jokes that were not really funny.
Worst of all : Barney was reduced to an annoying fist in the air waiting for a bump! Something was really wrong, it got scary. Which is probably why this week felt so so good. This episode was the typical episode of How I Met Your Mother with absolutely everything you would except from one : Lots of laughs, flashbacks, stories that lead to stories that lead to other stories, clues and hints as to the future of the show, and Barney awesomer than ever.

Shows: How I Met Your Mother
In Series: How I Met Your Mother Season 4
By fred | October 21, 2008
(S04E05) I think we might need to talk about How I Met Your Mother in more general terms this week before anything else. Because we all know that the show is mainly about Ted and his future wife, the mother of his kids, and how the two will eventually meet. Though one could argue that this isn’t really what the show is about, that none of this really matters, and that what the show really should focus on is its characters, all of them, and how to use them best to make us laugh.
Granted, as per its title there’s this idea that the identity of the mother is not just “a” mystery, but “the” mystery of the show. Often it’s been compared to Lost for its unusual ways to tell a story and use of both flashbacks and flash-forwards, and so often people just add the mystery thing as part of the similarities. So now, I feel the need to say it again, as I said before :
I honestly don’t really care who the mother is.

Shows: How I Met Your Mother
In Series: How I Met Your Mother Season 4

(S04E06) One thing most - if not all - people would agree on, when it comes to How I Met Your Mother, is that it is not a sitcom like any other. Not just because of its characters, but because it has a different way of telling a story, they use storytelling devices that are unusual, not only but even more so for sitcoms. That’s how the show is done, and successfully did for years already.
As a result, it’s possible that many of us viewers/fans of the show have higher standards or expectations for this show that we might have for others, but it only seems fair to expect from the show nothing less than what it’s been delivering for many years now.

Shows: How I Met Your Mother
In Series: How I Met Your Mother Season 4
By fred | November 11, 2008
(S04E07) Last week things were odd in How I Met Your Mother land, because the episode felt like just another sitcom with the big “let’s hide under the table” trick. So I was expecting a lot better this week from this little show, I was expecting to see it back to its very unique style and, now that (finally!) Stella is out of the picture and we can forget about Ted’s quest of the love of his life, maybe focus on the real mysteries of the show.
I have to say that in the end, I’m not sure sure how I feel about this episode, I’m having very mixed feelings. On the one hand we had things that are typical of this great show, things that worked very well and were absolutely hilarious - in short, Neil Patrick Harris - but at the same time, some other things didn’t work out that well for me, starting with the main plot.

Shows: How I Met Your Mother
In Series: How I Met Your Mother Season 4

(S04E08) Here’s the thing : this little show has been around for a few years now, and during that time we were lucky enough to enjoy so many stroke of brilliance with episodes filled with lots of creative plots and other unusual story-telling devices like flashbacks, flash-forwards and other, that I think in the end we might have gotten were much used to it.
Tuning in to How I Met Your Mother, we don’t expect to be watching just another sitcom, but something so different and unique - as well as hilarious - that when they “only” deliver a good episode — one that is good, and funny too, just not great, hilarious or so very unique as can be with the show — then we found ourselves a little disappointed.

Shows: How I Met Your Mother
In Series: How I Met Your Mother Season 4

(S04E09) It’s been an odd season for How I Met Your Mother, with some really good episodes and others leaving us wondering what happened to our beloved and once so unique & original show. Just last week I said how it wasn’t that the episode was not good or funny, because it was, but not in that very unique ways that make this show so unlike anything else on TV.
This week I won’t say it was pulling a very sitcom-esque move again, I feel it was a good and funny episode - partially. Partially only, but all in all I was left underwhelmed, not to say disappointed, once again. I think I would say this: cut this episode in half, the first half was great, the second was only “meh” at best.

Shows: How I Met Your Mother

(S04E10) Last time I was left somewhat disappointed by the show, so I was really hoping this episode would be better, get back to the level of awesomeness that only How I Met Your Mother can offer. Having watched this episode, I’m not exactly sure that we got there, but I’m more than okay to pretend we did because I felt this episode was just great.
It’s was too sitcom-esque as we’ve been complaining in the past, and while not perfect it certainly worked great, from beginning to end, and was simply very funny. Plus, there were quite a few things just for us fans of the show that I just loved. I don’t know about you, but I laughed a lot, and maybe it’s also because The Big Bang Theory wasn’t really funny, but I really had a great time watching this episode.
