(S05E11) For the last episode of House in 2008 we got the traditional Christmas episode, but the reality is that this episode was nothing like the usual. Oh sure, we had a new patient of the week of course, and as always many mind-games all over the place, House being the winner in the end. That’s just how it always goes, but this week things were also a bit different.
I didn’t like everything that took place during this episode, but I see this as truly great Christmas, I absolutely loved this episode and I feel it was one of the best ones we’ve had in a long time. It was just great, and filled with many little things that just made me happy. And the fun part is, in many ways this episode wasn’t like most of them are.

Shows: House

(S05E12) So far the Mondays shows hadn’t brought home the excitement I wished they had, but who else could be better at working his magic to make things improve? That’s what he does best, and he’s really good at it. And yet, this wasn’t either a great episode of House, more like a nice one which had hints about what we might start to expect for the rest of the season, but that in itself didn’t offer much.
The episode wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the most inspired one either. The case of the week was only okay I thought, and what happens around it and makes the show didn’t offer anything really interesting (yet). At least we haven’t been dragged into another focus on Thirteen’s condition or love life, and Taub and Kutner got to spend some time together and grow — so at least so people do.

(S05E13) This week happened exactly what was meant to happen after last week’s events. Different things had been set up in motion, and there were no surprises in the way it all eventually took place — which was either good or bad depending on what plot line we’re talking about, since there are many ongoing stories. We have of course the new romance between Thirteen and Foreman, which came out of nowhere and happened for no reason and with no chemistry between the two, we had Cuddy stepping away from her hospital responsibilities for a while to take care of her baby, and somehow grabbing Wilson with her as he’s never seen at the hospital or with House lately, and sadly.
And finally, we had Cameron. As Cuddy took a step back she invited Cameron to take over, not because she’s necessarily the most qualified for the actual job (even though she always took care of administrative work for House), but because the job has been pretty much reduced to taking care of and handling House, and that’s something Cameron should know how to do quite well, having working under him for a few years and still loving to play him, for instance to get him to take cases she deemed interesting, for one reason or another.

(S05E13) This was the 100th episode of House, and you would think they would have done something special for the occasion. Well, they did, actually, but the problem is that I’m not sure it was really what I expected. More importantly, this wasn’t a great episode, as a matter of fact once it was over I was wondering what to say, because it left me somewhat empty of reactions.
It was not a bad episode, but it was not really a good one either. At least, that’s how I feel. First of all, it should be asked what kind of shows this is ? Is House still a medical drama ? Or is that just the setting, and the patient of the week with a complicated decease is just an excuse to get everyone in the same place at the same time ?

Shows: House
In Series: House Season 5

(S05E16) In a show like this one, there are things that are bound to be repeated, often if not every week. There’s of course this good old formula which almost if not all episodes are based on, with a new case somehow finding its way to House, the patient’s case mirroring the life of one of his doctors, and/or another one getting involved emotionally in said case, and of course House Eureka moment at the end, over a plate of french fries with Wilson, that leads to solving the mystery and saving the patient.
But that is not the only things that will be repeated, other things, situations, might be coming back every once in a while. And this week, while the weekly case was not any bad, the real interesting part of the episode was – as often – what happens surrounding the case, and this time more precisely what was going on with House himself.

(S05E17) House is generally described as a medical drama, because that is indeed what it used to be. I say used to be, because in recent seasons the show has clearly evolved into something else, where the medical mystery isn’t what comes first, or even second, and might be just a little noise in the background that is there all along, but you don’t really pay attention to it.
Case in point, while I think this was an excellent episode of House, one of the better episodes of late, and of course our patient of the week played an important part into what made this episode interesting, the actual medical mystery of his condition, that was the excuse that had Taub, Kutner and the others do all their tests and be involved, that’s why the guy had been brought up to House in the first place, but it wasn’t really that interesting.

Shows: House
In Series: House Season 5

(S05E18) It’s been over five years now, so I guess it’s doomed to happen, every once in a while we’ll have an episode that almost gives us that weird sensation of déjà-vu, because most of what we see we have already seen a few years back. Only back then, it was the first time, it was the original team, and simply put it was better. This episode had nothing new to offer really, but that doesn’t mean it was bad, because this is still House.
If last season the show had new blood and a newly found energy with House in search for a new team, now that it’s here things aren’t as good, and he’s just doing the same old stuff he did in the past, only with new people by his side. Again, because there’s a lot of quality here, behind as well as in front of the camera, it’s nothing not to appreciate. It wasn’t any bad, but it wasn’t any great either. It’s not appointment television, it’s not must-see TV, just an hour of good TV.

Shows: House

(S05E19) It’s been five years, that’s a long time and a lot of episodes, and understandably a show that far in might not be as fresh as when it started. For a moment there, when House fired (or lost) his entire team, and then embarked on a long quest to find worthy replacement, it got fresh again. It allowed the writers to shake things up a bit and use new blood.
But now that’s all past, and they managed to turn some of the doctors of House current team very annoying (yes I’m thinking of her). But that doesn’t mean it can’t be fresh again, when pulling out in idea as did this episode for instance. Of course, it’s not new, I’m sure there are way more shows than I could think of that have actually used the same way of telling a story before.

(S05E20) This was one very “special” episode I guess, although one thing I’m absolutely certain about is that it will not have had the same impact on viewers who were spoiled before going in, and those completely in the dark. As far me, I’m allergic to spoiler and I stay away from every such thing as much as I possibly can, I don’t even watch the promos for upcoming episodes, so I didn’t expect anything at all coming in, but what I do with every episode of the show.
Obviously, I was caught by surprise just as much as everybody else on the show, as I didn’t see this coming at all. It was surprising, shocking even, but in the end it leaves me not sure what to think of this episode. Was it a really good one, where things were handled very truthfully, or was it one that highlighted underlying problems with the show?

Shows: House
In Series: House Season 5

(S05E21) Last week was what it was, and after such a traumatic event one of the concern I had was that, despite everything, things would easily be “forgotten.” That while in real life this would have a (more or less) important effect on people, and that for someone like House it might be devastating, because this is nothing but a TV show everything would resort back to normal.
This episode actually played with this idea/fear, but so far it seems to be done for the better, with an episode that wasn’t only great, but after the recent depressing time, managed to be pretty funny, hilarious at times even. This was a very enjoyable episode, and not to be mean about them, but one of the reason might be that House’s team wasn’t much involved.
