House: Dying Changes Everything [season premiere]

House(S05E01) Finally, after months of absence America’s favorite doctor is back. While shortened due to the writers’ strike, last season of House was still a really good one. Picking members for the new team was fun, even though it led to having members of the original team vastly under-used to the point where you really wonder why they were still around, but overall results were good.

And then came the finale, that shocking and terrific episode with tragic ending, as Amber, also known as Wilson’s girlfriend, ended up dead. Not only that, but the way things happened did put a cold on the relationship between Wilson and House, and it didn’t really look good for the future of their friendship…

House: Not Cancer

House(S05E02) Last week House was back for its firth season, but after what happened during last season finale, changes were coming up. The most notable of all being what really looked like the end of his relationship with Wilson, if there ever was one - according to Wilson himself. And while having to treat a patient and, of course, coming up with the miracle solution at the last minute and saving said patient, House wasn’t working the case last week.

Nope, because it was all about Wilson, trying to get better with him, and then to have him not to leave. Didn’t went too well, as the episode ended with Wilson walking away from the hospital, and from House.

Now what?

House: Adverse Events

House(S05E03) Another episode of the House, medical drama that isn’t really ever about anything medical. We all know this show is about people, it’s a character-driven show, the medical mysteries at the center of each episodes are just there to give some kind of reason or excuse for all those people to be involved with another another. And because this show is all about House being who he is, there’s one thing that you can pretty much bet will never happen : House changing.

He can’t change, he needs to be that way we’ve known him from years now, no matter what, because that’s the cranky doctor we all know and love, and tune in each week to find back. But that doesn’t mean the writers of the show won’t do their best to shake things up and never let the show fall into the same boring repetitive situations week after week.

House: Birthmarks

House(S05E04) Of course, House is a medical drama, and every week there’s a new patient with a very unusual set of symptoms that keep not making sense and killing said patient, hence why the brilliant doctor Gregory House and his team must work the case and solve the mystery before it’s too late – something they pretty much managed to do about every single time, and of course by ‘they’ I mostly mean House, will solve the mystery.

But we all know that’s not what this show is really about, and that’s why we shall focus on the other part of this episode first. It’s not the first time an episode features so clearly another plot, something that doesn’t take place at the hospital and/or doesn’t revolve around anything medical. There’s many issues still pending so far, and a few of them where addressed or even resolved this week.

House: Lucky Thirteen

House(S05E05) House is and has always been a character-driven series, and very unsurprisingly the main character who does drive the show is no other than Doctor Gregory House himself, of course. Yet, he’s not the only one to matter, and often we do find out more about his team, especially as he himself loves to find out everything there is to find about them, even using services from a P.I. to achieve so.

House has a new team now, and we’ve been following those people from their very first days when they weren’t yet part of said team. Yet, that doesn’t mean we know a lot about them and who they are. Take Thirteen for instance, the mysterious and gorgeous Thirteen has always been a mystery, and even though some have started to actually refer to her as Dr. Hadley, we don’t know much about her.

House: Joy

House(S05E06) This episode is called ‘Joy’, but that seems to be one thing this show doesn’t really have. While we can surely have a great time watching the show, it’s no mystery that it is mostly known as the show with a cranky doctor who’s probably depressed most of the times, and the pills can’t hide that, which might be why he feels the need to bring misery to everyone around him.

He just does that, with everyone. Whether he’s known them for years and not, whether they’re friends, colleagues, employees, or even his superiors, House has a way to deal with people and everyone gets the same treatment, and joy isn’t really a part of it, ever. Despite its title and the effort made, by the end of this episode, Joy wasn’t going to be anywhere near the hospital and any of the characters.

House: The Itch

House(S05E07) Despite its name, last week’s episode didn’t really leave anyone happy, quite the contrary in fact. It’s something on House, people are not happy. Whether it’s why they were brought together in the first place or a consequence of being around House, and having him look into their lives and try to mess things up, it’s hard to find anyone happy.

This week’s episode was about that, really, about that itch that prevents them from being happy, allowing themselves to try, to dare it and be happy. And of course, while the show is all about the different characters, their emotional states and relationships, in the middle of everything was a new patient of the week. It’s not uncommon for House to have that patient have a story to be oddly enough just very similar to what one of the doctor is experiencing at the time of the treatment.

House: Emancipation

House(S05E08) After being MIA for a little while, last week we were reminded of Cameron existence as she was very much involved in the case, and pretty much felt like she was back on the team, working with House again. What this really showed was that for over a year now, House has been working with new people – well, except for Foreman who somehow got stuck back with House — leaving the original one, Chase and Cameron, with close to nothing to do.

This has always been an issue for me, because as much as I loved the original team, it just felt wrong to knew they were still around, and sometime see one walking by, but without them having much to do. House has moved on, and i really wish the writers would either find a way to integrate them back into the show, or let them go as well, so we can move on too.

House: Last Resort

House(S05E09) This was quite the unusual episode we got this week. Not so much because of the added 10 minutes or so, but because of the setup everything took place in. Things were taking place in a very unusual and unexpected manner this week for House and his patient of the week, because of course no matter what happens there’s one thing you can always count on : each week there’s a new patient for Dr House.

Actually, there are two things you can always count on. The second one being House, of course. It doesn’t matter what happens, in the hospital or in his personal life, it doesn’t matter if he needs to solve a mystery in his office as always, in a secret CIA hospital, from prison, after being kidnapped and driven to his father’s funeral, House will always be grabbed by a mystery that presents itself to him, and he will always need to solve that damn thing. (Also, he will always succeed in the end.)

House: Let Them Eat Cake

House(S05E10) As is often the case, there were many things going on all together this week on House. We had to deal with the consequences of last week’s events, the medical situation of Thirteen, the never-quite-there romance between House & Cuddy, finding something to do for Chase & Cameron, and of course the patient of the week. Oh, that’s right, and we also have that guy, what’s his name… Wilson!

It was a shock when he left, when he decided not to talk with House again and to leave the hospital and everything else behind him. Some very difficult moments there with the loss of Amber, but he survived it, he reconciled with House and got his old job back. And then, … nothing. I know Wilson has never been a major player, but I feel that we’ve really need been seeing much of him this season, which is a real shame because he’s been at the top of his game ever since his renewed friendship with House, hasn’t he?
