Gossip Girl: Summer, Kind Of Wonderful [season premiere]

Gossip Girl(S02E01) Aw, summer. Time to take a break for the craziness of the daily life and run away to lighter, trouble-less days. Or not. And when it comes to Gossip Girl, it better not be the case. As we were quickly reminded by GG herself, “Sex, lies, and scandal never take a vacation“. So it’s with pleasure that we could finally dive into a new episode of sex, lies and scandal as the new season of Gossip Girl debuted, kicking off the new fall season.

Last time we checked, summer was starting for the Upper East Side kids (and their parents). B was waiting for a C that would never come, as he ran away with some other girl, D and S were breaking up because, well, D is Dan, Little J had her world collapsing, and N was invited to join S in the Hamptons.

So let’s meet with everyone else right back!

Gossip Girl: Never Been Marcused

Gossip Girl(S02E02) Well well well… a very busy Monday which we’ll begin going over with the latest installment of Gossip Girl. Last week the show was back, and while at first things were a little off, summer was soon over and everything was back on track. Starting, of course, with Blair and Chuck and the little war they’ve decided to engage in. I’m not sure where this will be going or how long it will last, but for the moment I’d say it certainly is the best thing on the show.

But it isn’t the only thing on the show, because while this non-couple might be the best thing in town as far as we’re concerned, it is Dan & Serena who are the “main” couple of the show, and that even if I don’t like the guy and sometimes wish they would break up so this would all be over. Clearly not the way things are going to go, since last week they got back together on the beach, with fireworks and everything…

Gossip Girl: The Dark Night

Gossip Girl(S02E03) Good morning, Upper East Siders! Last night we had another episode of the always delicious guilty pleasure that is Gossip Girl, and I’m not sure what to think of this episode to be honest. It was a logical progression into the direction that every story lines had been taking over the past episodes, quite a lot happened for pretty much every character, and as always it was filled with lies, manipulations and other bitchy moves.

That being said, I’m not sure that I really liked the episode, because many if not all of the things that actually took place were very predictable, which left us watching an episode pretty much never wondering where this was going to go next, because we knew already. Adding to that that not all the plots do interest me, and I didn’t feel this to be the best episode ever.

But of course, as with any GG episode, there was lots to enjoy!

Gossip Girl: The Ex-Files

Gossip Girl(S02E04) You know how people always say never to judge a book by its cover ? Or never to judge a new series by its pilot ? Despite the first impression being often all that matters and what will permanently remain in our memory, it’s a common thing that what first appears to be isn’t always what is. And this couldn’t be more true when talking about this episode.

And I’m not just talking about what was actually happening in the Upper East Side, but also about the very way things went down. I think one might easily start watching this episode, only to get disappointed after some time. Thinking that things aren’t really happening, it’s always the same old story, it goes nowhere, and you want out. But you really have to stick with it till the end (and it’s not like the episode was any bad, really), because then the truth will be revealed (unless you already saw it coming of course, but even then the lack of surprise doesn’t make it any less enjoyable), and suddenly there will be a new light on the Upper East Side.

Suddenly, it’s very exciting again.

Gossip Girl: The Serena Also Rises

Gossip Girl(S02E05) You remember the infamous campaign from The CW about this little show ? “OMFG!” ? Well that’s about right, that is precisely how I would describe this episode and how this show managed to go this week : OMFG!

And I say that in the best possible way of course, and my head still blinded by the lights of Fashion Week, I’m declaring this episode to be the best episode of the season (or series?) yet. Sure it was a little predictable (well a whole lot more than than actually) but the thing is, who cares? Who cares when you get to see so many great characters and such evolution that you are literally dying to find out what happens next??

Gossip Girl: New Haven Can Wait

Gossip Girl(S02E06) Last episode was good, it was really good in fact, but at the same time there were a few things that I didn’t really appreciated. For a few weeks now, Serena and Blair have not been the best of friends, I think we can say that. Slowly the tension between the two kept growing and growing to the point where it would become unavoidable that the whole thing explodes and, likely, there would be casualties.

It was actually initiated during last episode and the Fashion show thrown by Blair’s mother. B was trying to bring down S, and caught in the middle were poor Little’J and, of course, her own mother. But something felt really wrong during that whole episode, Blair wasn’t acting like she used to, she was acting rather… well, stupid. Sorry B, but that’s the truth.

Gossip Girl: Chuck In Real Life

Gossip Girl(S02E07) As hinted by this episode’s title, it was all about Chuck. While the show, at first, seemed that it would about about Blair and Serena, that they were the real driving force behind everything and around which everything was revolving, one thing became clear with time, and especially during this new season, is that the real center of it all isn’t the Queens, but the King.

Chuck Bass has always been a mystery, and that’s probably why he’s such an interesting character. And as more and more has been revealed about him, his past and who is really is, this episode continued to play with the possibility that maybe, and despite what Blair said, maybe Chuck is a human being after all, maybe he does have a heart.

Gossip Girl: Preet A Poor Jenny

Gossip Girl(S02E08) There are quite a lot of people of interest on the Upper East Side, it’s nothing new, and it’s not unusual that some are barely seen, if at all, during an episode or two. Not simply because there’s a large cast, but also because in each episode of Gossip Girl there’s usually a lot of things that will happen. This week, I think there’s no doubt that the main character of the episode was, for once, no other than Little J.

But that doesn’t mean she was the only one things were happening to, and so I think we shall simply start by talking about the others, and save the best for last. How about Chuck and Blair ? Those two have been playing games with each other for a while now, and it wasn’t really obvious if they were ever going to be able to settle things down and stop, because none of them can stand the idea of being the loser.

Gossip Girl: There Might Be Blood

Gossip Girl(S02E09) Aw, Gossip Girl. Delicious little guilty please we can’t wait for each week. It’s funny how some things change and evolve with this show, while others never do. They stay the same no matter what. Take B and S for example, we’ve been told S was a bad girl in the past, before she left, long before she came back, when the show started. I find it really hard to believe…

We’ve yet to really see that side of her, I mean for real, and I don’t think she can pull it off. Even this season, she tried, but it didn’t last, she switched back to her good girl mode in no time. Just like she and Blair can never really stay are still friends, and despite a little fight here and there, under pressure, they simply can’t stay mad at each other, even after they actually fought, like actually physically fought.

Gossip Girl: Bonfire Of The Vanity

Gossip Girl(S02E10) Some things do change on Gossip Girl, characters evolve, one day you love them and the next you hate them. The only ones with whom things seem most consistent are Dan and Serena, I never really liked them (especially Dan) and although they were meant to be “the” couple of the show for a moment, it never really took, not for me anyway, they were more boring than cute.

But for others, things are constantly evolving and changing, the best example in date being without a doubt Little Jenny. She used to be the perfect girl, and changed quite a lot during the last few weeks as she decided to quit school for her job, and then quit her job to live her dreams. Oh yeah, things are moving fast for our Little J, and I may not have always liked her choices, I was behind her.
