Family Guy: Love Blactually [season premiere]

Family Guy(S07E01) Sunday nights are animated again, as Fox series were returning to the air this Sunday. And along the the Simpsons another crazy family were back, the Griffins. Last season was short and quite uneven for Family Guy, with some terrific episodes as well as some pretty disappointing ones. When looking back though, one of the best episode last season had to offer was probably its season premiere, the famous Blue Harvest.

It’s going to be a very tough to try and top this one, and if you try to do a comparison you won’t like this episode. But the truth is that, in all fairness, even in itself this first episode wasn’t all that great. Looks like it had all it needs to be a hit, namely putting the focus of the episode on Brian and Stewie, as we all know how those are the greatest, and yet it wasn’t really there, and the laughs were missing

Family Guy: I Dream Of Jesus

Family Guy(S07E02) Last week the show was back, but I thought it wasn’t really a good episode. Not really because we didn’t get to see all the different characters of the show, even though they were less than for your typical episode, but because they tried to have one full story over the entire episode, it was very low on those classic jokes that are just thrown it, sure, but are also quite hilarious, in the end it just wasn’t really funny.

This week, it’s a different story, this week I’m more than happy to say the show was (finally) back, with an episode that resembled more what Family Guy is, and let’s be honest, one that was really funny !

Basically there were two parts this week, two stories taking place. Actually once again it was all somewhat a big story, but there was clearly a pivotal moment, and an after and a before.

Family Guy: Road To Germany

Family Guy(S07E03) Last week’s episode was absolutely hilarious, and a much needed great episode after a season premiere which turned out to be quite disappointing and, quite honestly, not very funny. It was a real pain, because if there are characters on this show that usually always are the funniest and make for the best moments, it’s without a doubt the couple of Stewie and Brian.

The season premiere was focusing on them, and yet the laughs were missing. It wasn’t pleasant to be let down by those two, but that’s probably why we now got this episode, one episode that - once again - put the focus on the baby and the dog of the Griffin family, and this time it worked. It really worked, the episode was not only great but also the best one of this new season so far. (Okay, sure, we’re only 3 episodes in, but still…)

Family Guy: Baby Not On Board

Family Guy(S07E04) The season premiere was disappointing, but other than that we’re getting a really good and very funny season of Family Guy so far! Last week we had a special episode, a new Road To with Stewie and Brian involved in their latest time travel adventure. This week was more of a return to basis, to what made the show what it is and made us laughs so much all those years.

One thing I’ve never really been a fan of, for this show, is when they try to have one big story to go on over the course of the entire episode. Somehow, most of the times it falls flat and ends up disappointing. I don’t care what South Park says, I do love the jokes and references this show throws at us all the time, even - or especially - when they don’t really make sense or aren’t related at all to anything.

Family Guy: The Man With Two Brians

Family Guy(S07E05) Except for a disappointing season premiere, this season has been on a roll so far and last week was your typical perfect episode of Family Guy, one filled with many jokes and pop references thrown all over the place as the show knows how to do so well. Sometime it’s been criticized for it, but I always thought that’s when the show is at its best, when it does what it knows to do best unlike trying to do what everybody else does.

You know, one story lasting the entire episode and where every jokes is part of that big picture. Which is what they did this week, the complete opposite of last week. In a structure which, to me, sounded much like something The Simpsons often do, we had a short (and very funny) story leading into the big story of the episode, the one that would last til the end of it.

Family Guy: Tales Of A Third Grade Nothing

Family Guy(S07E06) I was disappointed by last week’s episode, which I thought failed to be really funny, especially once the Jackass parody was over. It might be taste, but as far as I’m concerned Family Guy is never as hilarious as when it doesn’t try to do anything else but what but does best : throw at us one joke after the other, regardless of whether or not it really makes sense, much less is part of an actual bigger story.

That’s what this episode did, and that’s really how I love the show. After last week’s faux-pas we’re back on track this week, with an episode as hilarious as this show can be, and it even had something that has become quite rare this season : Meg. Not that she’s a character I miss, she’s no Stewie or anything like that, but it’s always fun when she’s around and people make fun of her, or worse.
