Entourage: Fantasy Island [season premiere]

Entourage(S05E01) Damn it’s been a freakish long time! Seriously, when was the last time we saw an episode of Entourage before last night ? It was like almost one full year ago! Such a long time I wasn’t really sure I remembered where it was we left the boys at last season, but of course it didn’t take very long for me to remember it all. So here we are, last season they brought Medellin to Cannes, it didn’t go down as they had hoped, and now the story can continue…

But before that, what I enjoyed first was simply to see the boys back. Just to get to see Vince, E, Drama, Turtle, Ari and the others back was probably enough to get me to like this episode. And as it turned out that might be a good thing because, in all fairness, the best thing about this episode was indeed to get everyone back.

Entourage: Unlike A Virgin

Entourage(S05E02) Last week, after such a long time, Vince and the boys were finally back! This was good, this was great, we’d all been waiting for that for a long time, but putting that aside, the episode was just nothing special. It was your obligatory episode to remind us what’s going on in the life of everyone, to remind us how Medellin sucked, and where Vince was at the moment.

Also, it brought him back in town and ready for his next move. Only, he hadn’t done it yet, nor had he figured out what it would be. While he was indeed back in town, and despite Drama’s fish, Aquaman’s Vincent Chase wasn’t really back, not yet… but this was about to change !

Entourage: The All Out Fall Out

Entourage(S05E03) First, the season needed to start, a little reboot was required. You know, bringing Vince back from the beach he had escaped to, motivate him to get back to work and become a movie star again, to be invested into the whole thing. That’s what the first and then the second episode were all about, getting things to a new start, ready to kick some ass.

And, sure as Hell, I was waiting for it, especially with Vince ready to fight and what definitely sounded like Ari taking the commands and (finally) running Vince’s career the way he wanted to, to make him the biggest movie star out there, because that’s all hat matters to him. But after this episode, I’m a bit confused, I think, because I’m not sure what to think of this episode.

Entourage: Fire Sale

Entourage(S05E04) Things aren’t exactly new in the world of Entourage. Let’s face it, it’s not the first time that we are in a that place, where Vince needs to get a new movie and become a movie star (again), and he’s not so much into the latest Hollywood crap they will ask him to do, no instead he’s got this great script he found on his own, thank to E, that he thinks will be a hit and he’d like to do, even though it’s more Indie than blockbuster.

“Been there, done that” could be said about this situation, but I won’t say it. Because as far as I’m concerned, things are still somewhat different this time, because Vince used to be a star, he was Aquaman after all, and now studios aren’t seeing him as a potential future star, but one of the down side, one that is falling after the mess that was Medellin.

Entourage: Tree Trippers

Entourage(S05E05) Sometimes on Entourage, things are moving rather slow. I’m not sure this isn’t actually the natural pace of the show, you never have episodes so packed that it’s hard to believe so much could have took place in so little time, so it shouldn’t really be a surprise or nothing. As a matter of fact, if anything this show is more the complete opposite of such a thing.

This episode was the perfect illustration of how it is possible for an episode of Entourage to barely move the plot, if at all, it almost feels like nothing happens, and yet something must have happened since we just watched a new episode, and that half-hour was not boring at all, it was pretty fun actually and I did enjoy it.

Entourage: Redomption

Entourage(S05E06) There’s always been not one, but two things that attracted me to this show. First, was the behind-the-scenes look of Hollywood we were gonna get thought Vince’s eyes as he tries to become a huge movie star; Second, was of course that it’s a comedy, and I always love a good laugh. The show is at its best when it can manage to give us both of those two things in the same episode - whether it is all packed into the same stories, or using different characters.

This week, if you’re looking for a good laugh you will be disappointed by this episode, I think there’s no question there. That doesn’t mean the episode was any kind of bad, just that it wasn’t all that funny. It tried to be, in a story that involved Turtle and his aspirations to find a job, and his buddy Drama, but alas while there was a lot of potential in that plot to make something good come out of it, the result was neither good or funny.

Entourage: Gotta Look Up To Get Down

Entourage(S05E07) Before I started watching this episode, during the opening credits, I was thinking of where things were at this point and how close they were to what they once used to be. Like before, Vince was broke and needed to do a big hit, not just for the money - thought he’s broke - but also to get more (studio) work in the future, to become the movie star he’s supposed to become.

And as before, he wasn’t willing to settle with studio crap, no he wanted to do that little script that came out of nowhere and was discovered by no other than E, of course. It isn’t really anything new, and it looked like the show was just going into a direction he’s gone before… and then, I watched this new episode.

Entourage: First Class Jerk

Entourage(S05E08) It’s been a while now already, since Medellin was a huge failure, probably the worst ever in a long time, and it’s been about as long since Vince told Ari that he was ready. He was ready to fight back, get in the game and become a movie star, for real. After that, things slowed down a little and last week, while Vince was still having fun, we saw a possibility of change heading the way of one Ari Gold.

Of course, him being close to Vince and them being friends, this wasn’t going to have an impact on Ari’s career only, it would also have repercussions on Vince’s career, the first of all being about that movie he’s been dying to do and, since Edward Norton is still involved on the project, that should actually be a really good one.

Entourage: Pie

Entourage(S05E09) Despite what it might sometimes look like, on Entourage we never really have to worry about anything, because in the end it always work out nicely for Vince and the boys. Oh sure, when they went full on into Medellin it wasn’t really a success, and Vince’s career hasn’t been skyrocketing ever since that one came out and was trashed like no movie before it had been.

But still, it was without much trouble that E got his hands on a magical script, one that got Edward Norton involved so it is going to be turned into a really big production movie, a potential hit, not some low-budget indie movie that would kill Ari. And thank God there was a death for the right person at the right time, putting Ari in the perfect position to put his client back on track, and in the movie.

Entourage: Seth Green Day

Entourage(S05E10) This is a show about Hollywood and what goes on behind the scenes, what we usually never get to see. And, at heart, Hollywood is all about the looks, more important than what is, which barely matters, is what it looks like. It doesn’t matter if you’re selling a piece of crap as long as it looks good, and so maybe it’s only normal that this is what we’re getting from the show, something that might look good, but fails to deliver.

Many times this season we’ve been in that situation where things looked great, exciting, finally interesting again, and sadly it never really happened. Ari got a major offer and could have gone for a life-changing move, but he passed and everything went back to normal, the usual (not to say boring) daily wandering of everyone. And this week it felt a little bit of the same.
