(S01E01) So last night, right after the big premiere everyone will be talking about for days (I assume), was another premiere, a series premiere in fact : the one from Eli Stone. I’m personally not sure this is such a good idea, because while I don’t doubt Lost will do really good, it might not be the best lead-in one could hope for. I mean, I don’t know about you, but usually once you’ve watched a new episode of Lost, you don’t stay put for whatever comes next, you either turn the TV off and think about it, talk about it, or you just grab the remote and watch it all over again, to get a second fresh look, now that you know what will happen.
You may be wondering how come, then, I’m already reviewing this show, while no mention of Lost so far. To tell you the truth, I’ve watched this episode some days ago, and to be completely honest I’ve written those words a few days ago as well. So after a new look over what actually aired, to see how/if it’s been tweaked, and maybe make a few adjustments, that’s it. Yes, I cheated. As for Lost, I’ll need more time to think about it some more and watch it again. I just can’t wait to see it…
But enough about Lost, let’s talk about Eli Stone.

Shows: Eli Stone
In Series: Eli Stone Season 1
By fred | February 8, 2008
(S01E02) So I finally got to watch the second episode of ABC’s new show, Eli Stone, which last week stared pretty good. It wasn’t perfect nor the greatest thing ever, but I liked it quite a lot, it had the lightness and humor of a show that doesn’t take itself (too) seriously, and I have to admit that Eli is a very lovable character. So I may not be a fan of George Michael, but that wasn’t to keep me away from the show.
And so here we go, back for another episode of a maybe prophet maybe just crazy layer trying to do the right thing for a change. Wait, what?

Shows: Eli Stone
In Series: Eli Stone Season 1
By fred | February 16, 2008
(S01E03) So I’m a bit late but here we go, we a new episode of Eli Stone. And as I said in the past weeks, I do like the show, and I do like Eli. The show isn’t perfect, but it’s not bad and I believe it’s still trying to find is voice, its own tone, and that’s not something that is always easy to do, it can take some time. One thing they got for them and that’s working just fine already, though, is their main character.
Regardless of the episode, the case, the stories, and what you think of them, forced to admit that that Eli is a really nice guy and you can easily see yourself spending about forty minutes a week around. But for that to work, we have to look at those cases and stories, because if they’re not good, that won’t work.

Shows: Eli Stone
In Series: Eli Stone Season 1
By fred | February 22, 2008
(S01E04) As always on Thursdays, after Lost, comes in Eli Stone. Eli is a pretty nice guy, and a lawyer, who one day finds out that he’s got a brain aneurysm. There’s nothing no ne can do about it, he will have to live with it - and maybe die because of it. As you can imagine, that’s a pretty tough situation to find yourself in. He had it all, a great job in a big firm, he was making lots of money and was just engaged to another good-looking lawyer, who just happens to be his boss’ daughter.
Then enters the brain tumor. And with it, Eli’s life changes completely and he finds himself having to deal with visions he can’t always explain and never control, visions that some not-really-Chinese new friend seem to think of as a sign from God, yes, he thinks Eli is nothing less than a prophet.

Shows: Eli Stone
In Series: Eli Stone Season 1
By fred | February 29, 2008
(S01E05) So I’m not exactly sure about the plans ABC has in store for this show. Right now it airs after Lost, and this will continue for three more episodes. After that, no more Lost. And when the show will come back, it will be at 10.00 after Grey’s Anatomy. What will happen to Eli Stone after its 8th episode aired, I have no idea.
You know that I don’t like to give up on new series too soon, if only because I hate it when networks do that so I feel I should start by behaving myself and actually give a show a real chance to grow and find its tone & rhythm. And if you’ve read my reviews of this show so far, you might wonder why I’m bringing this up when talking about Eli Stone.
The reason is simple : I just watched this episode.

Shows: Eli Stone
In Series: Eli Stone Season 1

(S01E06) Ahh… Eli. He’s a nice guy and all, but I’m not sure that’s enough. And more than that, there’s quite a few things that always bothered me, some doing a lot more than just bothering me. Yes, I mean Maggie. So last in my review I explained why I had problems with the show and why I was down to a point where I was really wondering whether or not I should keep watching the show.
Of course, I wasn’t gonna just go away like that, so this week I came back. And as hinted so many times before, I was praying that this episode would get better, and by that I mean that Maggie would just die. Since it’s not really any spoilery I can now already tell you this : no, she didn’t die. So that’s not good.

Shows: Eli Stone
In Series: Eli Stone Season 1
By fred | March 14, 2008
(S01E07) As every Thursday, after Lost comes a new episode of Eli Stone. As I said earlier, I was a bit disappointed by this week’s episode of Lost, but if I was really not sure about this show not so long ago, last week’s episode really won me over, and I have to say that and its short course so far, the show has really been able to evolve and improve with time.
Not that it started any bad, but like any other show it had flaws, and unlike some shows they have ben working on it and improving things. It’s a really nice thing to see, when a show actually gets better and better week after week.

Shows: Eli Stone
In Series: Eli Stone Season 1
By fred | March 21, 2008
(S01E08) Once again after Lost, it was time for another hour with Eli Stone. In his short existence there are things this show has always been able to do, like get me really annoyed and filled with mind with ideas of murders whenever I see Maggie. Or, keep having everything and and everyone evolve, the show kept getting better & better episode after episode, and that is something you have to appreciate.
It hasn’t had fantastic ratings, but it’s not been doing terrible either, and maybe now that Lost is gone more people might actually try to watch it, instead of watching Lost all over again. I mean, I would really like it if this show could be renewed for a second season, it’s turning to be one very nice show that I enjoyed tuning in to every week. And to be honest, though still featured in this episode, I think I was slightly less annoyed with the character of Maggie than I have been with previous episodes.

Shows: Eli Stone
In Series: Eli Stone Season 1
By fred | March 28, 2008
(S01E09) Maybe there was no visions coming from a mysterious Island before it, but Eli Stone was still there, and he still had his visions. I have to say that if at some point I was annoyed with the show, I’m really happy I kept watching because it has really evolved and matured, the show kept improving over time and it’s now been, for the past few weeks, a really fun hour I’m looking forward to each week.
I’ve said it before, but not many shows can say they have actually been able to improve over time, many shows just stick with whatever they have at first and barely change anything over the course of their season, if not entire run. One thing that is really fun with Eli Stone, is that it never stopped and kept doing the same things over and over again, it’s constantly evolving (and improving).

Shows: Eli Stone
In Series: Eli Stone Season 1
By fred | April 4, 2008
(S01E10) The journey of Eli Stone and his mysterious visions continues as we go through another episode of this great new show. Last week I had said that we might have an earthquake coming, and it didn’t happen. But as we talked about after last week’s episode, I’m still thinking one will eventually come, just not for now. Eli’s vision wasn’t wrong, it was just way ahead of time. After time, his father knew Chen would help Eli (really) long before they even met.
I’m still thinking the earthquake has to happen, and that during the season finale will be a good time. In the mean time we had another episode with another kind of disaster, one I knew was coming (back) even though I was hoping differently against all odds : Maggie.
