I’m not sure if there’s anything to talk about last night. I mean, there was nothing new - or worth watching - on. Which probably explains why CBS easily won the night both on total viewers and on the 18-49 demo. Not only that, but each and everyone of CBS’ repeats did came first on viewers as well as on the 18-49 demo on their respective time slot.
Numbers are far from being as good as with fresh scripted content, but if CBS or Fox are holding on, ABC on the other hand is in deep trouble. And Lost is still far away, and will only air once a week. Really, here’s a priceless tip for people over at ABC : cut the crap, go talk with the WGA and negotiate yourself a deal. We would all benefit from such a thing : writers would go back to work, and get paid; we would have our great series back on the air; you’d get fantastic rantings. It’s a freaking win-win-win thing, just go negotiate FFS!
Anyways, as usual all numbers of the night are found in a nice chart below :

As unfortunate as this news is, it was doomed to happen. After Carson Daly a little while ago - no I don’t feel like mentioning Ellen, I mean she had her show went dark for that, 4 minutes? - then the announcement that both Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien would return on January 2nd, followed recently by Jimmy Kimmel to return the same day, and with Letterman still working with the WGA to return in early January as well, Comedy Central’s late night talk were the only ones not to return.
And this changed, as it was announced by Comedy Central that both The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report will return with new episodes starting January 7 :
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report will resume production on January 7 with both shows returning to air that night without their respective writing staffs. The January 7 return follows a scheduled two-week, end-of-year hiatus that was previously built into the shows’ production calendars. We continue to hold out hope for a swift resolution to the current stalemate that will enable the shows to be complete again.

So after we learned the The 4400 was canceled, along with another series on USA, Dead Zone, Jeff Wachtel, USA network programming chief, had this to say : “We wish we could keep all our great shows alive forever. But we feel we need to give some of our new shows a platform to grow, and it’s with great sadness that we say goodbye to two shows that had a great run and helped create the resurgence of original programming on our network and on all of cable.”
Yeah, right.
That’s absolute BS, and the way I see it it’s a sign of total disrespect towards the series, their fans and the people working on them. I mean you cannot say those were great series that did do good, and then just cancel them like that.

Shows: The 4400

After announcing and promoting fresh episodes, CBS went all reruns. Surely people got fooled by this, and since their dramas usually do well in rerun mode, this night was no different and they took the night both in total viewers and on the 18-49 demo.
At 8.00 I sad to see NBC coming first, but really I couldn’t expect repeats of a crap like Back To You to come in first…
Moving on. While a repeat, Criminal Minds did pretty well coming winning its slot with 11.6 million viewers, that is better than its last repeat two weeks ago (9.4 million), but of course it then had Deal Or No Deal and a new Private Practice to compete against. This time, it was Clash Of The Choirs - doing not as good - and Private Practice was a repeat, and repeats and ABC don’t go together well.

At first, the rumor was that the People’s Choice Awards were simple canceled this year, CBS was not going to broadcast a show were most celebrities were likely to not show up (read: would refuse to cross picket lines). Thinking about simply canceling a show that usually does pretty good, network executives weren’t too happy, obviously.
But don’t worry, because they have an idea !
Forget the strike, this has nothing to do about a strike or some writers or anything, things will go as planned, but they just had an idea for a new format : magazine format !

One new set of nominees was announced, this time it was the SAG Awards. Winners will be announced on January 27, 2008.
The nominees aren’t really always the right ones, in my opinion, and for instance I find it hard to understand that the only newcomers you can find are Mad Men, Samantha Who? and Damages. I mean, seriously. How can there be nothing for the best new series of the season, the fantastic Life, or the oh-so-sweet Pushing Daisies ? Just doesn’t make sense to me…
List of nominees after the jump, with in bold my votes, and maybe a few comments as well, as usual… Although I pretty much expressed my choices over the Golden Globes nominations.

(S01E13) So I was out today, and couldn’t watched this sooner. But, finally, here I am, here we are, episode 13 of Journeyman. The very last episode to be completed, or even ordered by NBC. Although three more scripts were ordered before the strike, in case, the episodes were never ordered, the show has still not been picked for a full season order, and while there’s no official announcement of cancellation this might very well be the series finale.
Given the not so good numbers of Monday’s episode, it doesn’t look good. The only hope, maybe, for the show might be that with a strike that last and a pilot season ruined, NBC could decide to order more episode of this show only because they don’t have no new series to replace it with. Although, while I’m all for new episodes of Journeyman, I don’t wish for a longer strike than it already is.
Back on this (last) episode.

Shows: Journeyman
In Series: Journeyman Season 1
By fred | December 19, 2007

* A couple of shows are back tonight ! Not as much as originally planed though, because CBS pulled out fresh episodes. (Well, they probably only announced them and promoted them knowing they wouldn’t air them, just as a way to try to trick viewers into tuning in…)
* Anyways, at 9.00 The CW has the Christmas special of Gossip Girl.
* Not to forget, of course, that at 10.00 NBC airs what will likely be the very last episode of Journeyman, ever. Season finale ? Series finale ? Either way, don’t miss it!

I’ve had it, I can’t stand those assholes from the AMPTP and those fat greedy studios’ exec. Yes, I do support the writers and I believe what they’re asking is nothing but fair, and that they should get what they’re asking for. But even trying to put my own beliefs and opinions aside, at least the writers aren’t a bunch lying motherfuckers ! Yes, it’s nothing new that those greedy fucks would lie and try to manipulate everyone and do everything they’re doing right now.
Of course this shouldn’t be much of a surprise – but haven’t they realized that they’re putting the future of the television media in jeopardy. Because let me assure you, them, everyone, that many people will move away from their TV, find new ways to get their entertainment and pass the time, and if they do, they might not ever come back to television. Ever.
